Dude, the dragon fire was lucky, secluded on the fire and surrounded by water. The Mickey actor was in the greatest danger and he was evacuated in time. They didn’t have to evacuate guests which would have been chaos with how quickly the fire spread through the dragon, if the show was around buildings and crowded streets of Disney

Not sure how to feel about the destruction of Murphy. a) It’s pretty epic to see Mickey ACTUALLY DEFEAT one of the most (in)famous Disney villains b) but it’s very sad that that would happen to such an iconic animatronic, rest in piece. c) and it would be very horrifying if to be one of the people experiencing it while previously enjoying a normal happy vacation. Good thing no one was hurt.

I was there when Murphy caught fire. It was my first time seeing Fantasmic and while it didnt go as planned, i would love to see it come back WITH the animatronic. Its astonishing and honestly the best parts of one the of best shows. I hope Disney isn't dumb enough to not rebuild it.

I have an animatronic fire story actually. So I was at a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese and one of the animatronics I think it was Helen caught on fire. It wasn’t very big but just the image of it’s burning head still scares me. It was put out quickly and no more shows happened after that.

I can’t believe Murphy is really gone. Ever since I learned about her existence in 2018 I’ve been saving up to go to Disneyland to see Fantasmic, as I wanted to experience her for myself. It really saddens me that she is gone, I hope they rebuild her soon, but not too soon. They need to take great caution with this, maybe do more maintenance checks once the possible Murphy 2.0 is completed. I hope Disney says what they’re going to do soon

I actually had a similar experience to this. I was working the graveyard shift of this horror attraction which used this vintage supposedly haunted animatronic. On one of my later nights, the place burnt down due to faulty wiring. Glad I wasn't in the building when it happened, but really scary nonetheless.

It was quite a shock to see the dragon burst into flames like that when it hit the news networks right after it happened. I'm very glad that everybody was out of harms way and safe. Hopefully that the Disney engineers take precaution and build a better version of Murphy so that it doesn't catch on fire ever again like what happened to the parade float five years ago...

The shocking amount of dinosaurs from the moving-museum type companies is concerning. My friend and I went to one just the other day and joked about how janky they were, but knowing how flammable they are too makes it even worse. Very cheaply placed in the mall. If a fire was to break out, that entire section of the mall would be obliterated. 😅

They are usually urethane or some sort of latex. Yep! very flammable! Even rubber is flammable. These materials have a low "flash point".

Like Michael said, all the materials to make flexible skins that are durable enough to hold up to theme park (or traveling exhibition) standards are all some kind of volatile-laden polymer. All of the things I can think of that would be flame retardant wouldn't look convincing or be flexible enough.

How could you forget the animatronic fire at Loo Loo Land? One of the animatronics named Fizzarolli started fighting with a guest, and the guest eventually made the whole park go up in flames! Some people say the Fizzarolli animatronic is out there somewhere, half melted, looking for that guest.

I was there when the maleficent float started BURNING 🔥 I just remember talking to my mom and saying “mommy why is the dragon breathing fire on itself😭” lol it’s so funny to think about it. I was also there when the OTHER animatronic dragon burned down. I have been to Disneyland and Disney world. I keep having very unlucky trips with these dragons😭

When I saw that Iago in under new management, Maleficent Dragon in Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, and King Kong Encounter, it made me very shocked. It was a sad day for Fantasmic fans. I hope that Maleficent Dragon might be non-flammable, Fantasmic will return to Disneyland, and the fire effects would return to Disney Parks around the world after the official cause was reported. Edit: 17:07 I noticed that there was a mistake that the incident actually happened on April 22 not March 22, so can you fix it? But now, the ultimate price was paid. Fantasmic is set to return to Disneyland in May 2024 with the Dragon figure permanently removed. One that I'd personally hoped to hear more about was the fire on Tales of the Okefenokee. It was an old dark ride at Six Flags Over Georgia, and one of the animatronics caught on fire in 1980. One of the singing carrots had an issue where the interior mechanisms got stuck, which heated the coil and ignited the animatronic. The fire spread, burning the singing carrots and spreading to the next scene, where Mr. Fox is holding Mr. Rabbit in a sack. They had to move singing watermelons from the finale to fill the space where the carrots had been. The plan was already to close down the ride, but that fire was the last straw, and the attraction closed that same year.

I was working on the Universal lot two weeks after the fire and was in walking distance of NY street. It was so sad seeing all the melted steel that once was Hill Valley and King Kong. The King Kong attraction actually open in summer of 86. The OG Kong was a great experience. 😢😢

The first place should have gone to an incident where several robots were in a fire that destroyed them all. Most important one that was destroyed was a rabbit from 1983. This also had killed two people that stayed in the building and one even had an announcement over the building as it burned.
