When he said that everyone has a preconceived notion of who/what he was supposed to be he hit the nail on the head. It seems like since he's doing his own thing, and just not caring if someone makes a mini doc about him then he must just be wrong. I think he seems likeable, and would be fun to be around (at least in moderation, dude is wound a little tight for my style). So who is the most hated by? The hollywood elite? The people writing opinion pieces while pretending to be journalists for the major news corporations? ohhhhhh no he took pics with a couple of pistols, and a rifle.... I truly feel for him. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to be the child of 2 extremely talented actors. The feelings and pressure that you’re expected by everyone to be just like your parents … as talented, as ambitious, as grounded, as successful, etc. I honestly think he must hate being known only as “Tom Hanks” son. Then he also gets compared to his brother. All the controversial things he’s done (and does) is his desperate attempt to find his own identity. It doesn’t surprise me at all that he was involved with doing drugs … a (dangerous) way to escape all the scrutiny and criticism. He’s still trying to find his place in the world. I hope he does and I hope he can follow his dreams and passions and truly find happiness and be successful.

He does have a brother that is grounded. Who at 16 can afford cocaine? The american dream is really a nightmare and this poor man/child is a victim and perpetrator like many in america. Americans still can't get their heads around that great wealth/position doesn't automatically equal happiness. I wouldn't call his father extremely talented but competent and fortunate very much so. This is all just my opinion based on no intimate understanding, just observation.

Speaking from personal experience, my parents decision to not give me allowance or pocket money in favor of encouraging me to earn it through work set me up for success in ways many of my peers struggled with. Leaving high school, I knew the value of saving money from each paycheck, I knew how to pay taxes and balance a bank account, I had my own car that I paid for out of pocket, and I had a resume already, filled with work experience and skills learned on the job. Those wilderness programs and children's rehabs were awful in the 2000s and 2010s. I was sent to them for smoking weed at 16 and got bullied for not being a real drug addict and came out only wanting to try harder drugs bc all the kids in there did opiates and other hard drugs. I also got molested by my counselor who didn't even go to jail, he only got fired. Since I was a teen in rehab they were able to write it off in court and say I was lying to try and get out of the rehab. There were other places that beat kids, denied them food and water, tortured them by forcing them to stay awake all night or taking away beds or tents... way way worse things too. I know so many people who were sent to those programs and NEVER did a single one do anything but make a kid way worse. What message are you sending by sending your children away to a place you know nothing about whenever they have any minor issue?

The wilderness camps are pathetically cruel. If you as a parent feel to need to send your child off to a place like then have FAILED them. It's their conditioning and their environments that mold them so the only people to blame are the parents.

Absolutely 💯 correct! Whenever I see a child acting out I look at the adults around them. Who is not raising the child but is in pretend mode? Who is abusing the child? Who is responsible? If I had known at age 16 that I could've become emancipated from my parents I would have. That is a legal separation from the parents; at 16 you are then responsible for yourself. Every state is different on which age you can attempt this. Once you start, don't stop.

I mostly agree, but I had some friends in school who were really awful to their families and self destructive, but they had nice parents. Even though they were my friends, I wouldn’t have wanted to be their parents or have kids like them. I know a lot of parents who definitely failed their children in every way. But unless I know the situation I feel like I can’t 100% judge parents, as I’d hate to be a parent with a totally out of control teenager who was dangerous to other people in my home/family/community. I’ve seen some teens who threaten to kill their siblings and whatnot. I feel like sometimes parents feel like they’ve literally run out of options and I’m sure they do feel like failures. But then what? You still have to try to do something about it. Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ this is part of why I’m never having children lol.

Why, SOME white folk feel guilty and for good reason. The others that don't, they are the ones to fear. To be honest most white/europeans feel empty, that is why we often throw themselves into dangerous activities just to feel alive on the adrenaline. Chet is just another white dude feeling empty. We call it "finding ourselves." I'm an Australian white and privileged. We are a whole nation of people empty in an ancient empty land. The only ones who know themselves are the first nation and we envy them and hate them. Some of us have tried to mitigate the damage we have caused while others just despise the indigenous. Despise and even hate.

Yeah, he's too ignorant to realize that if he truly wants to be free from the "shadow" he must cut all his family's financial ties, Similar to an artist who said they were "Struggled to make it" all the while their parents paid for their rent and bought all their musical equipment.
