Despite, the bad roster, I still put most of the blame on coaching. No reason why Carmelo, the leading scorer, would be benched most of the olympics, why LeBron never played the second half, and why DWade didn't get more time. When you watched the team play. They would clearly be at best when those 3 guys were playing. What yall think?

I clearly remember Lebron in 04. He was practically the same player he is now. I remember Melo being an absolute stud at Syracuse. I don't however remember D Wade back then. In any case, benching Lebron the entire second half was absurd. I didn't watch any of that years Olympic games but clearly the team would have been better with Lebron playing more minutes. I don't know the ins and outs but from the video I agree it's the coaches fault.

Handles UP Bron, Wade, and Melo was babies back then that's why they didn't play that much. They weren't yet the star players they evolved into a couple years later. Say what you want about Lamar but he was the 3rd best player after Duncan and Iverson. Those were the only 3 dudes I remember that played well.

I honestly hate how people never give Argentina any credit for winning the 2004 olympics, Ginobili did something special to give them the gold medal. The US roster wasn’t as good as possible but they where still a lot better then the other countries

The team was pretty stacked honestly, Duncan and Iverson were all stars. Marbury, Marion, Jefferson, Boozer, and Stoudamire. James, Wade, and Anthony had only played one year, but they were already stars. Okafor was seen as great back then, and you can’t forget about Lamar Odom, because he was pretty good on the Clippers.

Erik Lerström So what? There is a bunch of NBA players who are shit and just fill up a rosters. And those three Argentinian players played Euroleague before coming to the NBA. Argentinian non-NBA players also played Euroleague basketball. Argentina also won silver medal at 2002 World Chamionship in Indianapolis where they also beat USA in group stage.

Comparing other national teams to D League is pretty foolish. Yes, talentwise individually that might be correct, but you have to take into account, that most international teams are used to playing with each other for years since early youth stages. Teams like Argentina and Lithuania played together since their early teens and had way better chemistry and cohesion than any US Team could hope to build within a couple of weeks, no matter the talent. That's the reason why you have to have a stacked US Team in order to win.
@mstelios4259
@mstelios4259 7 жыл бұрын
Truth is that the Superstars didn't wan't to play for team USA after the embarrassment at Indianapolis in 2002. The team lacked true point guards and 3 point shooting. Coach Brown had no clue about international basketball and the players couldn't adapt to the international rule set. If anything, the 2004 team actually overachieved by finishing third.
@aleksandarspasic6067
@aleksandarspasic6067 7 жыл бұрын
Terrible video. Calling Euroleague stars that represented Serbia and Montenegro, Lithuania, Italy, Greece and Argentina D league talent was an insult in 2004 and still is today. That kind of underestimating mindset is exactly the reason USA lost. You also fail to mention 2002 FIBA World Championship held in Indianapolis. USA lost to Argentina and Yugoslavia and ended up at 6th place, behind Yugoslavia, Argentina, Germany, New Zealand and Spain. You also failed to mention the USA roster that played 2003 FIBA Americas Championship that was qualifying tournament for the Olympics, as Yugoslavia went directly as a World Champion. USA blew out the same Argentinian roster at that tournament. You also failed to mention 2006 FIBA World Chamionship in Japan. LeBron, Carmelo and Dwyane were also part of that roster and USA took a bronze medal.

Lack of a true point guard? Iverson could play point but he was more of a two. Marbury was more about the points than assists and you could say the same about iverson. They need a distributer, LeBron wasnt the player he is now obviously, he's never been selfish but now he's on a new level when it comes to getting people involved. I think a distributer is a huge reason. I am writing this as you show the roster on screen so maybe you talked about this.

Injuries and personal reasons got in the way of team USA reaching the gold medal. Instead of a garbage roster with lack of experience, it would have looked more like... AI Kobe T-Mac KG Shaq With the bench being, Duncan, Carter, Kidd, Allen, Marbury, Nash(not sure of his reason), and Amare.

I'm pretty sure their "point guards" at that time did not play like a point guard or had a point guard mentality. I could say that they had no legit point guard really.

The USA Roster had no true PG who could play it. Stephon Marbury is an iso-type of player who would constantly drive and attack to the rim while Allen Iverson is a SG who also specializes in Isolation type of play. The big men players were not defensive like Amar'e Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer. The only defense they had was Tim Duncan, Emeka Okafor and Shawn Marion

Lack of talent and Nba experience? You don't know what you are talking about!Michael Jordan,Patrick Ewing and Sam Perkins won the gold in 1984 Olympics when they're still amateurs and haven't played a single game in NBA,and Larry Brown is one of the best coach in NBA. So please don't give your man Lechoke (LBJ)an excuse.MJ the real GOAT!

Krzyzewski would have coaches that team to gold. He had the international experience, and was obviously used to dealing with teams full of star younger players.

I would call this analysis a big bs. The main reason why the 2004 team was a failure was, that they weren't a team. They fell apart. A good team is when the sum is greater than the parts that make it. I believe that they didn't lack talent at all. Simply the chemistry wasn't there.

I understand you saying they had a lack of talent compared to other USA teams but they were still MUCH better than other Olympic teams and should have dominated

Or maybe, just MAYBE- the international player's style of play finally surpassed the NBAs. Now the NBA plays exactly the same style that Euro league plays. I wouldn't blame it squarely on Larry Brown.
