I think Draco Meteor should be the dragon pick. The fact that in earlier generations every dragon type could learn it once its friendship is high enough makes it stand out above others, plus it has been a competitive staple over many years

Nah. Brick Break was the fighting move in gen 3, but beyond that, just gen 4 added so many more fighting moves people used in Drain Punch, Close Combat, Superpower or Hammer Arm that Brick Break quickly got overshadowed. Especially after its buff, Drain Punch became way more used and widespread than brick break, and over the last 6 gens, definitely went more obscure. Even in gen 3, barely any pokémon learnt it naturally and it was that one super late one-off TM from Sootopolis. And if you talk about competitive... again, it got outshined way, way harder by the gen 4 additions, amongst others drain punch.

stealth rocks should stay called stealth rocks because realistically after a meteor hits the field id imagine it'd be harmful to step or even fly in the wrong places but it wouldnt be very stealthy, as opposed to stealth rocks which hide (but dont in the actual game) and strike quickly in ways most other hazards wouldnt, causing most pokemon to not be able to avoid them without heavy duty boots or magic guard

Iron Tail seems fine to keep since the anime IS a huge part as to how people go into the franchise, so it would be a lot of people's first Steel moves. The main ones I disagree on are normal and dragon. Quick Attack isn't as ubiquitous as Table, but it's strictly better, and you might actually keep around for a bit. Plus it's used by Pikachu, including in Smash. For dragon, I think it has to be Outrage. It's the move that put dragon types on the map in the first place, and it's still among the best physical options the type has. I had some other small disagreements like giving bug to U-Turn and rock to Rock Slide, but I don't feel as strongly about those two.

For me, Vine Whip leaps out as the move I associate with the grass type, but I think primarily due to the amount of times Ash has Bulbasaur use it to save someone falling out of a balloon / off a mountain / floating off downriver in the anime. Also I had Rock Slide for Rock, but probably mostly due to the TM vending machine in Gen 1.

This is an incredibly fun concept for a video, and the list itself turned out really good too, though I definitely have a few I disagree with. I’m definitely biased towards moves that do direct damage over moves that don’t, so for Rock, Poison, and Bug, I think I’d personally go with Stone Edge, Sludge Bomb, and Megahorn because big numbers go brrrr. That being said though, there are actually a few types where I would’ve chosen a less powerful move personally, like Aerial Ace for Flying and Bullet Punch for Steel. I could go on with other alternate picks like Night Slash and Dragon Pulse for example, but ultimately this all just goes to show both how strong Pokémon’s selection of moves is and how as a result, no two lists like this are going to be the same.

Normal: Tackle or Quick Attack - (Metronome and Splash would also be my honorable mentions in retrospect Grass: Razor Leaf or Bullet Seed - I definitely see a case for Solar beam/Giga Drain/Leech Seed, I think I just have stronger memories of Chikorita and Grovyle using these moves in the anime, as well as in the Mystery Dungeon games. Water: Surf - yeahhh nothing else comes close. Possibly Bubblebeam or Water Gun. Fire: Flamethrower for sure! Though Fire Blast and Fire Spin are also pretty memorable because of the unique shapes. Electric: Thunderbolt Ice: Blizzard, Ice Beam, or Aurora Beam (I was super fond of the rainbow of colors for aurora beam) Blizzard always stands out to me as being more intense than Ice Beam. Ground: Earthquake or Dig. Possibly Mud Slap. For fighting-type, i usually go with Brick Break. It's strong, great accuracy, good PP, and breaks reflects/light screens. I use it so often I made my own inside joke For steel, I'm going with Iron Defense or Iron Head. I put these on my team whenever I need some defense buff or a strong steel coverage And I'm more of a Dragon Pulse person, myself

Probably would make a top 3 myself since I often had one in mind, but immediately others came to mind. First one is the winner to me. Normal: Hyper Beam, Splash, Return Fire: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Flare Blitz Water: Hydro Pump, Surf, Waterfall Grass: Solar Beam, Powders, Draining (only type where I felt like categories were super prevalent) Electric: Thunderbolt, Thunder, Volt Tackle (Without the anime hard carrying volt tackle, it'd absolutely be Thunder Wave) Ice: Ice Beam, Blizzard, Hail Bug: Leech Life, X-Scissors, U-Turn Poison: Toxic, Poison Sting, Sludge Bomb Fighting: Close Combat, Focus Miss, Karate Chop Rock: Rock Slide, Stealth Rock, Rock Throw Steel: Iron Tail, Iron Head, Flash Cannon Psychic: Psychic, Trick Room... and honestly stuck on the last one. Reflect/Light Screen? Confusion for basics? Amnesia because gen 1 supremacy? Hypnosis/Dream Eater because fuck Morty? Rest? Ghost: Shadow Ball, Night Shade... and the caveats come in. Curse is iconic, but people might not even know it changed to ghost type from a decade ago and nearly all its iconicness is from the ??? type. Other than that, I'd say confuse ray, but I deadass think most people won't name it simply because they won't know/remember it's a ghost type move. If people know, it's obviously CR, otherwise I'd say Destiny Bond for its wonky-ass mechanics.
