Something I use, as a tip for You: I put (replace) the "stop track" buttons to "mute track" buttons, for the respective tracks. In this way the tracks also "stop" being heard (they are muted), but when the button is pressed again, they continue to be heard from where they have reached at the moment of pressing the button for second time. It's working like immediate stop. It’s very useful, specially for a drum and rhythm tracks. Also, this way the indication shows where the track has reached while it is muted. It continue showing you the length and You can visually see where you are in the loop, as it goes around, even when you can't hear it. The mute button goes in red color, when it's active and there's no lights when it's disabled, so you can easily see what's going on. I hope this will be helpful. Regards, Cheers and good luck!

I really hope BOSS watches this video!! In addition to the extra potential foot-switches I want to use a midi controller with lighted switches up ON A STAND to be able to adjust volume [+other things] with hands [without having to bend over while wearing a guitar +without having to move my mouth away from the microphone while adjusting something..] I hope Boss some day makes a table-top hand controller specific for the RC-600. [+yes I know I could use a 505mk2 on a stand with a midi foot-controller to sort of do the same thing, but that thing only has 5 tracks, is WAY bigger+heavier than a midi controller +takes up too much valuable space on a stand or table..]
@MattBoltonMusic
@MattBoltonMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Good points. The RC1000 will hopefully have an add on midi controller when they release it in 2035. I did this before with the 500. Another problem with that is you have to run ALL the cables UP to the table rather than have them neatly on the ground. None of this matters to people that play at home and not in front of an audience.

I faced the same dilemma when I decided between the two models. The 5 vs. 6 tracks is what ultimately made me go with the 600. I haven’t dug into it yet but I also factored in my decision that we should be able to control a lot of parameters with any desktop midi controller. Any parameter that can be controlled by Midi CC can be controlled via a standard midi controller of almost any type. The first param that came to mind for is also track volume. I think it can be done. I think the author of this vid was just talking about the “clear all” parameter not being available to assign as a Midi CC destination.
@MattBoltonMusic
@MattBoltonMusic 2 жыл бұрын
@@FrequSpectra yes, almost EVERYTHING is midi assignable. Keyword almost. You can midi assign any track volume. But also, you only get 16 assigns. It’d be amazing if they had a desktop supplemental controller with lots of knobs and buttons and lights for those of us that just want/need access to everything at a hands/foot’s reach. This thing is absolutely amazing and if you spend the time with the manual and the test EVERY setting and try every fx and try every ctrl assign etc. you will see it’s the ultimate piece of looping equipment ever even attempted. Boss really outdid themselves with this thing. My videos are meant to just point out a couple TINY little things they forgot to add that they should easily be able to fix with a firmware update. Of course there will always be minor bugs and missing functions overlooked. But there is nothing on the looping market that even comes close to how amazing this thing is.

Would it be possible to assign two of the upper pedals as track 4 rec/overdub and stop..? Then you would have four tracks at your feet at all times. I think I’m gonna order the rc-600. I’d love to see it compared to the headrush looper.
@MattBoltonMusic
@MattBoltonMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can assign the buttons to do almost anything you want including track 4 overdub/stop etc. they’ve got many different styles of assigns for every pedal and every setting. It’s astonishing really. The parameter guide is lengthy (for a good reason). Search boss rc600 parameter guide. Not the manual. Read the parameter guide cover to cover. This thing blows the headrush looper out of the water. It’s not even a comparison at this point. I bought the headrush on Amazon and kept it for 29 days testing every single function. I wrote several lengthy emails to headrush explaining some of the fixable shortcomings and they didn’t even respond to any emails. I returned it and never looked back.

@MattBoltonMusic 2 жыл бұрын
That’s what I did on the RC300 and didn’t want to do that on this one because it’s still a work around . They could easily fix it with a hold all-clear assign. You can use only one pedal to delete them all if you change the “memory extent” and have it go from memory 1 - memory 1. So there’s no other memories except memory 1. When you assign one of the pedals to increase memory it just deletes everything and instead of going to memory two it it’s cycles back to memory 1. Pro tip.

Also for the record...you CANNOT assign memory location up and down via midi assigns. So you can’t do the workaround like you could on the rc-300 to clear all the tracks with a midi assign. It seems intentional that they don’t want you using an assign to clear all. They force you to use a CTRL function for clear all. Strange. I don’t know why. Also in the video I say you can’t assign FX-A level to an assign. You can. It’s just not called level. It’s called FX-A ctrl. Ctrl not level. Because the ctrl changes depending on what effect they are talking about. On certain ones it is level, when level is the most important (like delay).

appreciate your content. I'm struggling with this and can't find away around it unfortunately. I'm in mode 1. I want bank 1 to be receiving my drums from an external source. I want to be able to play that at a short loop say of 4 beats. I want that to be the bpm of the track so I set that first and it saves me looping drums for say 4 x 4 beats. I then want to go in to bank 2 and set a loop length say of 12 bars. now this is where it gets tricky and can't figure it out. say I've recorded guitar rhythm in bank two and now want to add other parts like harmonies or bass parts on the guitar. I want to add that to bank 3. for some reason they won't quantize together and the loop seems off. I know there's a global quantize but is there a way to set it so that when I set drums for 4 bars that banks two and three can be played longer but be quantized together? you can do this on the rc300 just by putting bank 1 in free mode and other two banks in auto mode. I bought this pedals for sound quality improvements, more inputs and outputs but it doesn't seem to do the one thing I want it to. I'll have to take it back otherwise.

Yes, that is annoying. If you’re using lots of memory locations you’ll need to re assign all the assigns per memory location I guess. I think there might be a way to copy paste a memory location but haven’t looked into it as I only use one memory location and it’s not of a concern to me. Plus it wouldn’t bother me because I love going through the menus with the attenuator and assigning things, it’s good practice for learning the ins and outs of the pedal. Haha. But that’s just because I’m so excited to be using this flagship beast!

Another thing I’ve noticed while setting up my backup looper. There’s no way to save all the settings to the looper. Save all the assigns and parameters etc. to an external source. I’m pretty sure. This was an oversight on Boss’ part. I’m trying to set up my backup rc600. I have one on the west coast and one on the east coast for touring and one backup at home. They forgot to add a “restore settings from backup”. It’s A LOT of work to set it up the way you want it. So I recommend everyone write down EVEry setting in case a board fails and you need to set up another one quickly while on the road touring.

Yeah, I don’t foresee any reason why you’d need to change the status of the orb indicator. It should always be tempo anyway. Maybe if you use the built in drums it would be necessary for something. But I build my own beats and don’t use the built in rhythm. I also beg of other loopers to not use built in drum beats “drum machines”. It gives live loopers a bad name. Anything not performed live on-the-fly gives loopers a bad name. It makes you look like you’re just playing to prerecorded tracks (which is the cardinal sin of live performance)

@@MattBoltonMusic That is SO TRUE. I would like the RC-600 SO much better if it didn't have any built in drum tracks. Extra crap like that (that we don't use), not only makes the performer look like he's doing karaoke, but it also adds adds weight +takes up valuable space on the looper. This was why up until now I always used the boomerang phrase 3 sampler.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpypmGx6p9mkhtk

If (that's a big "IF") if U could use 2 midi controllers at once (I don't know anything about MIDI but I'm guessing it's not possible) +if u don't mind using something BIG and heavy.. the Nektar Pacer midi controller footswitcher has multi-colored lights +could be used for important foot switches.. but we still need a tabletop MiDI controller for many OTHER things... (Come on Roland, your job is not finished here.. U could sell SO MANY MIDI controllers if U came out with a SMALL table-top side-car for this.. +better yet, give us MORE than 16 MIDI commands.)

Having lights is not the issue. Many MIDI controllers have lighted switches. The MC8 has switches that you can program to say different things when you step on them. The issue is the way the RC600 communicates the lights. The lights on the RC600 are controlled by an internal language that is not MIDI. It's not possible unless it's designed by BOSS because the lights are not MIDI commands. They are being sent by a proprietary BOSS language/code (as explained by BOSS). So they would have to make a pedal that basically uses the same language as the pedal. MIDI is a universal simple language that the RC600 understands but it's not the language/code of the internal workings of the pedal. Maybe ROLAND/BOSS could design something that communicates with the RC600 but it is not likely because it would probably need a different port (not MIDI) maybe they could communicate via the USB port but, again, it would have to have been thought about in their initial design. Now it would just be trying to redesign it.

@@MattBoltonMusic SOLUTION!! = Run a table top midi controller into an RC600 +use it ONLY for volume levels of tracks, FX levels, +panning. [u don't need lights for that anyway] then take the "MIDI out" of your RC600 +send it to "MIDI-in" of an RC505 MKII on a stand +use two foot controllers to control 2 of the channels by programming "rec/play" on 1 button and "stop" on the other button of each of the controllers. This gives u 2 more "foot-tracks" like the RC600 with all the lights/bells+whistles of the 505 to control them with. Now u have an 8 "foot-channel" looper, 2 of the channels are exactly as u wanted (controlled with the 505) +6 of them are still pretty good (controlled by the little MIDI controller on a stand). then U also have 3 bonus channels on the 505, where u can record shakers/percussion+drums (since u don't need to use your feet when recording those loops anyway. This also give u more FX bank options +allows u to use a shorter mic cable (since your mic is already off the ground.)

Why do u want a visual to show U where the loop is when it's turned off? If it's turned off.. (it's not anywhere!), it's just off. That would be like a parent telling his teenager that he's gonna to lock her in the house for 4 hours while he's gone, but she should still send him text messages telling him where she WOULD be if she HAD left the house"...

You are completely wrong. You're not understanding how the pedal works. If the loop is turned off it is still playing in the background SILENTLY...the loop is still moving through the progression. If the loop is 20 bars long and you turn it off for ten bars and press play after ten bars (while it is not playing) it does not start at the beginning, it starts at the halfway point. This is for advanced techniques, but it would be nice to have a visual of where the loop is (EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT PLAYING) because it continues to play SILENTLY when "off". Sometimes chord progressions have similar parts in longer progressions with certain parts having repeating patterns of the bridge or chorus, if you knew where you were in the "silent loop" that is "off" you could turn the loop back on when the right chord is about to be played. I DO THIS all the time...however I have to think in my mind where the loop WOULD be if it were playing out loud and be cognisant of it even though it is silent. That way I can bring it in where I want it. Again, this is an advanced technique. If all your loops are the same length or you're not using multiple layered loops with different lengths and progressions then this wouldn't make sense to you. If the loop is "turned off" aka STOPPED you said "it's not anywhere".....and that is just wrong. It is playing silently in the background while in "stopped" mode. When you hit PLAY the loop comes back instantly where it WOULD BE if it was playing out loud the whole time. Just like when the loop is PLAYING you can visually see where it is in the pie graph. When stopped the pie graph completely disappears. It would be nice to have the option to STILL SEE the pie graph so you could see where the loop is.

@@MattBoltonMusic Thanks for taking the time to explain all that. The only looper I've used is the Boomerang III phrase sampler which doesn't DO that.. (even in a mode with many tracks playing at once) it will not enable U to start recording or playing in the middle of a loop. I'm still waiting for my RC600 to arrive +was not aware that the "play" button worked that way on boss loopers.
