Discover the most important bloodwork to assess your metabolic health in our video, "Key Bloodwork for Health | Understanding Insulin Resistance." Learn how insulin resistance affects your overall well-being and increases the risk of conditions like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
We emphasize the significance of fasting insulin levels as a reliable indicator of insulin resistance. By measuring your insulin sensitivity, you can take proactive steps to prevent or mitigate metabolic disorders before they progress.

I have a co-worker (T.S. in Chicago) who I recommended she watch your videos and after doing so, she had a one on one consultation with you last week. She didn't really think it would be *you personally doing the consultation* and when she came to work the next day, she was soooo freekin excited to have spoken with you and *she felt like she had just met a celebrity!!* *She said the great way you break everything down with explaining things in your videos, is exactly how you are speaking in person.* *Thank you Dr. Hansen, keep up the fantastic work you're doing with helping to keep everyone their healthiest!*

Thanks, Dr. Hansen. I haven't had any major hematology labs in 12 years so I finally went in a few weeks ago. I have also been vegan for 8 years so I figured it was far past time to check everything. The results were great and had no deficiencies! A1C was 4.9! Not bad for eating all those carbs! 😅 I go back in a few months for a follow-up and I'll request an FPG or CPT. Just got back from the dentist today and no discernable tooth or gum disease. Just goes to show: eating right, flossing, brushing your teeth, and not being a slouch help. Thanks for keeping us informed.

can you include the whole results of test done?, not only your 4.9, yes in my seventies I can say mine in the last 20 years the maximun 4.8 but more often 4.4 to 4.6 and the lowest 4.3, and have all my teeth and not even one repair, a pity not able to share a picture here.

Definitely a great idea to do and I’ve also learned that when you give yours cells specifically what they need, they will correct most health problems, including the more serious ones, and they arent concerned what a condition is called…but can detect abnormalities. Apoptosis is a great example…

The problem with the insulin test on fasting blood sugar is its only at one point of time, it doesn't measure your insulin resistance. If you have high fasting blood sugar like i do, because of a variety of factors even though my A1c is always 5.4 or less.

UpToDate mentions that fasting insulin does not have a high enough sensitivity or specificity to be clinically recommended. Also with the interlaboratory variations, criteria for normal and abnormal values have not been established. But they're also quoting a study from 2003. Is there new data to support the clinical use of fasting insulin testing? Where did you come up with your cut off of normal? Edit: For patients that can afford it, insulin suppression testing may be more useful, but its not practical to recommend for routine clinical use.

I saw an endocrinologist for my pre-diabetes. A1c of 6.2. Fasting insulin of 5.0. ( I’m 75yo, 5’11”, 162 #, exercise 2 hrs a day). He said that insulin levels are unreliable in determining resistance. Any thought on that? Also I’ve read some sites that say that at my age a higher A1c is acceptable. What do you think. Thanks!

Can somebody answer a question? Got my blood test results, the printout they gave me read 38 mmol/mol. According to their numbers this is under the good range. The other 2 are moderate and poor. Yet they sent a text saying that my cholesterol is high, without making life style changes. I could head towards a risk of cardiovascular disease. At reception they were unable to explain it and the chances of speaking to a GP is slim as it's too busy. Can anyone explain by any chance?

So my take away is fat is okay, not too much red meat and some veg. I have definitely observed the glucose spikes on carnivore diet and although doing pretty well I have stayed at the same weight for 6 months. BTW I'm on the back side of diabetes. Was 13.8 five years ago. Refused insulin. Got down to 6.1 in a couple of years but have stayed that way for about 3years. I'm suspecting I'm still insulin resistant. Can I ever expect to not be after being that way for probably 30years?

Help! My doctor will only do fasting blood test first thing in the morning, and my a1C is normal, not even close to pre-diabetic. But, I purchased my own blood glucose meter because I often pass out unexpectedly immediately after eating -- feels like narcolepsy because it comes on fast and I can't stop it. I've noticed my blood sugar levels spike insanely high after meals, no matter how healthy I eat. The doctor won't do any further testing, and I'm stuck because its the only doctor for the county's uninsured patients. I'm scared because I don't understand what the problem is.... normal a1C but wickedly high blood sugar spikes.

*There is no difference between refined and unrefined carbohydrates as to the kind of metabolic damage they do: refined carbs just do more, faster.* *There is also NO evidence that increased protein intake causes fatty liver disease. What Mike describes is the CHEMICAL reaction in test tubes, not how the body actually handles protein:.all fatty liver disease is caused by sugar and carbohydrate consumption.* *If carbohydrates are required for human health, how did the Inuit and Plains Indians survive for millenia on diets that had either absolutely no carbs, or very few carbs? [And racism/genetics isn't an answer.]*
