Mind blown! As a white belt who's been training for a couple of months, I've experienced the instinctive discomfort of being in the weak shape many times and couldn't really grasp what exactly caused that feeling of vulnerability. Thanks a lot, Nic!

You are brilliant and a visionary mind. Thank you for digging deeper into concepts and theory instead of just coming up with more moves and cool tricks. Most of all, thank you for sharing with us. I would like to meet you someday cuz I think you're not just trying to make jiujutsu better... you're making people better.

Interesting, in the game of Go. shape is a very important concept. It's the spacial relationships between your own stones. There are strong shapes and weak shapes. Nice to see the same idea applied to grappling

Nic, great vid. I am about to start my jiu jitsu journey in about a week or so. This video makes a lot of sense. I think I can see where this advise could keep me from getting as smashed as I might without it. And also be applied throughout the rest of my journey. Thanks Nic!

So, from any position, I should focus on being in strong shape while dismantling my opponent to the weak shape. While doing that, what is your mindset ? Is it a even percentile like, at the beginning, you have 50-50% chance of getting it and more and more, it will raise up to 70-30% until 90-10% of success/failure ?
@tremblayd76

Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood Thank you, it will be very helpful. The percentile is that I will get better and better at it without giving up position and doing errors.

@@JiuJitsuBrotherhood 8 months - 2.5 of missed classes of jiu jitsu, still a no stripe white belt. In a stand up fight it's in my favour and likely not going to the ground. My grappling strength is in the clinch and I usually get the takedowns from standing which annoys the crap out of a couple of purple belts. I try and pass guard I get submitted or end up on bottom. I'm not struggling to breathe anymore but I'm still getting submitted by dumb stuff and having simple things elude me. This annoys me, I'm used to picking things up almost overnight. But I love it because I suck at it. I want to be good at it and there are no shortcuts. Just different ways of thinking and things you haven't considered before. I apologise if this comment comes across as arrogant at any point. But I feel like I'm getting worse at Jiu Jitsu. This video drew my attention to something I hadn't considered before in a new approach of thinking like when you get in the shower aftet training and you think of something you haven't thought of before and your mind just gets blown. To me that's the best part about Jiu Jitsu and this video is another thing for me to consider.
