Edit: I was playing the game when Ding blundered. I really don't know what to say other than congratulations to Gukesh for becoming the youngest world champion in history. I wish Ding manages to recover from this. It must be heartbreaking. Want a personalized training routine made by me? 38:10 an interesting move instead of 13... Re8 would have been 13... Ne8 with the idea of Nd6, which is an amazing square for the knight in these pawn structures. I'm sure a strong engine would suggest it, or maybe not in this exact position.

If there's one takaway from the world championship, is that you should stop complaining about opponents not resinging in "obvious draw" positions and play on. Even if the engine says it's all zeroes, for humans, that draw must be reached lol. Fighting on and pressuring the opponents in "obvious draw" positions is how Magnus became a world champion, and how Gukesh became one. Imagine if Gukesh would just offer a draw in the middle of the 14th game...

I like both players, but I was rooting for Ding. To see him self-destruct the way he did was painful. It also takes some of the luster off of Gukesh's victory. I can't help feel he was given the title as much as he earned it.

I don't understand not playing your tournament prep online. If you are worried about tournament opponents learning what you play, then you shouldn't post your tournament games online either.

Right wouldn't you wanna practice your prep?

Posting the game after the fact allows you the possibility to change things up in between tournaments. Playing your exact tournament prep online all the time gives opponents a very easy time prepping for you

100% agree. With all due respect he is not really a GM and I have been following his videos for more than 5 years now and can safely his problems don't include openings, it's what comes after. It wouldn't really make a lot of difference if he plays main stuff online. The hiding your prep thing is important for GMs where opening edge is much more important
@mandria798
@mandria798 6 күн бұрын
Posting tournament games do not reveal anything about prep because tournament games are for the majority already in the database. His future opponents will know about these games regardless if he post them or not.

@@jordylont1879 that would mean constantly having to learn new openings. I doubt he has time or energy for that. Most of us amateurs play one or two openings and that's about it.

Would it be too much to ask if you could call out the moves as they happen, so I can follow the game on the go?

As a blind player, I wouldn’t disagree. I follow his games on lichess and listen to the videos, but it’s not too easy to follow his analysis as I often don’t understand what exact position he is talking about. I actually asked him to say the moves a little while back. He promised to give it a try, but it only lasted a couple of games. I think it removed his focus.

You'll notice at times he's silent during games. That's because articulating his thoughts during play is already hard enough. Asking him to do more and get used to something new is asking him to play slower and worse.

@@PetterSmedsrud That goes without saying, but along the way it would cost him a bunch of losses etc, and it could take him a good while to adapt. Then even if less it would still affect his play. It's the same as people wanting him to draw arrows to make the games easier to follow. IMO both are asking a lot. He should be able to just play chess without it being such a burden.
