This is the most important talk between Tifa and Cloud [Final Fantasy - Advent Children]. It is so important because Tifa says what she thinks about Clouds behavior [He never wants to talk to anyone, but he complains about that he's so alone]. And that made Cloud confident. Tifa has been portrayed as the girl who always put others' feelings before hers. She always care about those around her and that is what makes her so sweet.

You know the quote I find most interesting out of all those is "The more Cloud is tormented by painful “memories” of the past." Why is the word "memories" put in quotation marks? Because his "memories" of what happened to Aerith and Zack were when he was not his real true self, so to the real Cloud, they're not pure memories as they happened when he was his fake/SOLDIER separate personality.

I finally got around to watching AC for the first time (stuck with the Complete version) and all this talk about how Cloud is super moopy and “emo” in AC... from my perspective, the poor guy had too much weight to carry on his shoulders. Aerith’s passing really did affect him greatly, alongside with Zack. Even though none of these circumstances was his fault, Cloud still felt guilty about loosing them. Imagine loosing someone who meant so much to you, on a level as a sibling, and then they die in the most crucial way right in front of you. I don’t think anyone would be able to handle such trauma. I want to say that Cloud was most likely suffering from depression and added on PTSD as a result, which is why he wanted to remove himself away from others for the next couple years. After watching the film, I felt so bad for him. He needed so much comfort. 😭 But, at least the ending put a smile on my face when he saw a vision of Aerith and Zack, reassuring him that he did everything he could to save them and not to be so hard on himself. His soft smile at the end.... damn near broke me to tears. This chocobo bean does deserve to be happy. 💕

With the way Cloud behaves, it's implied his main reason why he didn't want to go to the Forgotten City was because it's the place where he failed to protect Aerith. If you understand his whole character arc from the events of the original game, he's depressed because of his survivor's guilt due to the memories of his past trauma from Zack and Aerith's deaths. Ironically, going back to a place called the Forgotten City is understandably hard.

According to nomura cloud is getting his memories he lost in crisis core back, this includes the bad ones like being tortured and experimented on for four years straight by hojo. So cloud is suffering from PTSD on top of his survivor's guilt and contracting geostigma just made him decide to give up. Zack and aerith walking away into the afterlife at the end after saying goodbye is meant to signify cloud finally coming to terms with their deaths.

OMG IKR! Her tone is so motherly in remake, but still has that fighter with a heart feel to it. Man, Tifa's English voice does not sell it for me here. The voices in this movie, both the English and Japanese, but ESPECIALLY the English are really hit-or-miss (probably in large part because of trying to match lip sync), but I'll give a lot of credit to Quinton Flynn as Reno for legitimately sounding like he gives a damn. I just like to watch this part for Reno and Rude in the background around 2:00. I have no idea what Reno is doing but Rude is pushing him in a way that reminds me of a clumsy attempt at moving a cat out of the way.

Yeah man. Advent children actually has some really interesting character moments and a really great opportunity to flesh out a thematic core surrounding grief. Unfortunately that makes up about 5 minutes of the entire runtime. The rest is action basically. Cloud being depressed and filled with grief at the loss of Aerith, and Tifa helping him through that, is such a fantastic idea. But like I said it’s basically 5 minutes and the rest is anime motor cycle fights.

Thats not true the whole idea is through the whole movie. The begining showing cloud not picking up tifas calls, quarter of the way in when the last message is aerith saying she never blamed cloud for what happend. The middle when cloud is able to beat bahumut with help from everyone he cares about including tifa and Aerith. The 75 percent mark where he has to fully confront his demons in sephiroth, as well as his resulting talk with Zack pushing him forward. And the end with cloud finally letting go being bathed on the purifying water to symbolically heal himself and and his geostigma along with everyone else. I get there are a lot of cool fights in the movie, but your interpretation is a clear misunderstanding of the movies themes because of being distracted by the action. Dont worry your not the only one. But it's something that requires actually paying attention to the scenes of the movie in question.

Tifa trying all she wants and yet it's still Aerith that saves him, physically, emotionally and mentally. He sees her in the church after Sephiroth fight in AC and smiles back at her. He SMILES. If it wasn't for her he would've died in FFVII, he would've died in AC or at very least, he would've stayed broken. Cloud just can't let her go. It's heartbreaking. I hope he saves her this time, just to see him smile.

I find it so sad how people are quick to say Cloud is « emo » in the movie when it’s clear that he’s depressed and feel extreme guilt over the past. If his character was a girl, I bet the critics would be so much less intense. It just goes to show how society expects men to never be vulnerable. Tifa slams her hand down making her point camera focuses on the ring specifically for a good second. The viewer can clearly notice it.. visual storytelling without hitting the viewer over the head with dialogue specifically telling you they are in a relationship. This scene is echoed later Cloud rescues Tifa during Bahamut attack and says "sorry I'm late too much dilly dallying" Tifa smiles hops on the bike and rides off with Cloud ring once again can be seen. Though not the focus, for viewers paying attention its there.

The connection that our group has with Aerith is not meant to be based on just relationships, it's much more ingrained than that, she is the center and root of everything that occurs. Aerith is the hope of the planet and the hope for our guys, she represents the light in peoples lifes and the birth of another, better Midgar, so Cloud mourning for her doesn't have any romantic or existential connotation. She is just an important part in everybody's lifes, someone who managed to change them forever. After witnessing her death and blaming myself for what happened, that would be enough even for me, to fall in a deep spiral of guilt and it would be hard to get out of there. When it comes to Tifa, I know what they have always meant and what they still mean for each other, who says that Cloud doesn't care, clearly doesn't get it. Her role is clear, so I don't want to waste words on that. I replied to you because it seems to me that you are the usual person who hates Cloud for the same recycled reasons, I just wanted to put out there my opinion for whoever's gonna read it, plus the person you mentioned, managed to insult both Cloud and the girls in the same comment, I can't even take it seriously. After Square finishes the final game of the remake they should expand on the story of the compilation of Final Fantasy 7 when Cloud senses a universal threat bigger than Sephiroth, Genesis, Hojo, Deepground, shinra, Jenova, Loz, Yazoo, and Kadaj. I would love to see the Final Fantasy 7 universe expand after the events of Derge of Cerbus so Square can start to add more new characters, games, and films to get to that point like the Russos did in the MCU. I want to see Cloud and Tifa share their feelings for each other and and have Cloud start to show signs that he loves Tifa like Cloud did back in his childhood, and Tifa show signs that she loves Cloud, Cloud and Tifa deserve a happy ending together. Story wise I believe there is someone eviler that Sephiroth that wants to destroy the universe and Cloud and his friends have to save the universe. That’s why I believe this compilation of Final Fantasy 7 is not fully complete.

It is indeed guilt of the past, but that's the memory, it's not the memory of Aerith, it's the memory of Clouds failures. From failing to get into soldier, to the burning of Nibleheim, and most importantly, for the deaths of Aerith and Zack. But the memory is about living in the past, being stuck in guilt, it's not about Aerith, it's about Cloud. That's basically what is meant when he tells Sephiroth to stay in his memories, it's him telling the past to stay in the past. Sephiroth returning is basically a representation of all that, which is why I said "memories of Sephiroth", not Aerith.
