This is the most important talk between Tifa and Cloud [Final Fantasy - Advent Children]. It is so important because Tifa says what she thinks about Clouds behavior[He never wants to talk to anyone, but he complains about thats he's so alone...]. And that made Cloud confident.

In Japanese Tifa says "Zuruzuruzuruzuru" (ずるずるずるずるずる), which sounds like dragging a heavy weight with you. This means that Cloud is carrying heavy memories with him (deaths of Zack and Aerith), and is also symbolized by the Buster Sword which Cloud wielded before (and now acts as Zack's gravemark). It is also referenced later when Cloud saves Tifa and Denzel from Bahamut, when he comments that he "feels light", like a great load has been taken off his shoulders.

This scene is one of the quintessential platforms in the relationship between Cloud and Tifa. After all, Tifa has grown enough to express herself more clearly, though her improved communication of such feelings doesn't stem from Cloud, as he doesn't mirror this growth (by the time this conversation arises). Basically, Cloud gains far more strength from Tifa than the opposite in my humble opinion. After all, maintaining a bar in the middle of a dilapidated city, to obtain funds to take care of herself, Marlene and Denzel during a virtual BUBONIC PLAGUE crisis (let alone the emotional support for the traumatized children) is saying "single mom responsibilities" on steroids. Anyway, Tifa confronts Cloud about his alienation of others that he perceives as a self-burden and is affecting his judgment, thus jeopardizing his family and friends-- THUS putting everyone at a greater risk than his fears tell him. It's a powerful message indeed, and it was the "straw" for Tifa quite clearly (her face when Cloud said, "...Go." LOL) Finally, she (and Aerith) told Cloud to LET IT GO. She's not blaming him, clearly no one is (hence letting people in because they're trying desperately to REACH him, thus the alienation etc.,) although she could very well do so, but there's simply no ROOM for blameworthiness given all the crazy stuff they've been through (I mean really, the Lifestream event Cloud? That isn't evidence enough??) Sorry, Cloud's self-esteem issues sometimes bother me. Like, there's a million sign-posts for the guy, and I understand you're depressed, but...some signs are OBVIOUS. Tifa keeps saying "family" dude-- women don't say they want to start a family just because it's fucking Tuesday!! Anyway, at the same time, Tifa shows empathy to Cloud's disposition saying "she knows"; him being previously affected by not knowing who he was (thus the LIfestream event) so she KNOWS how he is and despite the absence of communication exchange for months on end, Tifa was astute enough to decipher precisely what was bothering him. Now, if that ain't a woman, I don't know what a woman is. In my observation, this conversation sets the platform for Cloud and Tifa to be "real" with each other in moving forward (whether they intend to be married or something remains to be seen, given they are parental figures in the eyes of the orphaned Denzel) and gives Cloud the underlying motivations as to WHY he fights...thus he fights again :) Important conversation indeed. GREAT FREAKING JOB TIFA.

So I love reading fanfics with Cloud and various partners; but...at the end of the day, as one who beat All the games including Dirge of Cerberus.. there is something about the Canon relationship between Cloud and Tifa that is so complex, so simple, yet humanly, openly flawed that too me it's just a sincerely perfectly done well developed, over a long time....love story. :-)

It doesn’t even come off as romantic…..it’s depressing…… As someone that’s actually been IN LOVE I can tell you the closest thing to that is Cloud and Aerith. I’ve been with my wife for 11 years (I’m 30) and I can count on one hand how many times we’ve fought. We’ve done everything together, we’ve both built a life that we both contributed to on our own that we’re proud of, and we both still get butterflies. I feel so bad for people that have never experienced being in love before. Because believe me…..there’s a difference.

There’s even dev and writer quotes that talks about how Aerith is the first person that sees Cloud for who he is, and the one that “melts his icy heart”. All the evidence is there…. Tifa is the one that alienates Cloud as a kid, and never accepted him for who he is. Nor never stuck up for him. Even after she used Cloud to do the first bombing mission because she didn’t want to. She couldn’t even stick up for him when they all celebrated at the bar, and Barret says “this here is a private affair”. Despite the fact that Cloud is the one that did the mission. So once again, after Tifa got what she wanted, Cloud was pushed to the wayside again…. I could go on and on and on, but I already know it’s not going to do any good. I’ve given dev and writer quotes, quotes from the games, and quotes and comments from all of the Ultimanias, and Cloud and Tifa admirers still wouldn’t listen. People are going to believe what they want to believe. I personally think they have a very damaged and unnatural relationship. But some people resonate with that because they have the same real life experiences. As somebody that’s experienced love at first sight, and experienced falling in love with somebody that I’ve had an insane amount of chemistry with….I resonate more with Aerith.

Tifa fell in love with Cloud. It was the kind of "love" where she wanted to be with him. Tifa is lumped in as one of Cloud’s friends in this passage. Learn to do proper research, then maybe you might understand the characters feelings themselves. Just maybe. As for the ending of Advent Children, and dirge of cerberus, Tifa is still considered to be one of Cloud's friends. While Aerith and Cloud are reunited in their promise land. Since Cloud can see, hear, and touch Aerith as if she were alive, and Aerith can do the same. Since death isn't an issue or a barrier between them much like Yuna and Tidus (despite Tidus being a dream still made up of pyreflies as confirmed in the ending novellas of FFX) The whole bullshit lie that "Aerith can't be with Cloud, because she's dead." Is forever null and void thanks to Nomura. It is his company, his rules, and no anti fans can twist his arm, and say Aerith or Tidus can't be with their lovers.

I think the "Cleriths" (or whatever the hell they call themselves) are more vocal about their ship because it isn't canon, so they feel the need to post their opinions and twisted "facts" everywhere to make it seem as if it is.

I think more than it not being canon (cause neither ship was 'officially' proclaimed canon since SE is moneyhungry and a coward and won't anger either side, despite how obvious one ship is lol), it's about their ship having no future. This is why instead of usual shipping wars of who will end with who, all they (those who can't stay in their lane reading 'what if' fanfics) can do is try to invalidate and destroy Cloti - a ship with obvious future. And since story and reason is against them, they can only cling to semantics, and what the word family /truly/ means type of bs, and a throwaway word so and so said in one promotional interview that is not backed up by the game lmao so they end up looking quite sad and pathetic and are notorious in whole FF fanbase smh. It's gotten so bad, if you search any Cloud and Tifa scene the first results will be smth like: cloudandaerith4ever(dotcom)why_this_C&T_scene_is_NOT_romantic lmfao Truly sad! Meanwhile even a 5 year old could tell you based on full story which couple is a likely endgame, so Cloti fans are more calm, have nothing to prove. Even neutrals and non-shippers agree which side makes more sense in the end. They forget that the main Clerith shtick is tragedy. And this tragedy is not only Aerith dying, but it's the fact that the player was teased with the POSSIBILITY of a couple - but never got the chance to make it happen! Their whole story is 'what could have been.. but will never be', iirc the fandom even has a slogan like that lmao. It's only ever about the possibility: 'I want to meet the real you [IN THE FUTURE]', predictions, see you laters and so on. You add to that the later revealed Zack factor and it gets even worse cause now you don't know how much was influenced by him - AND YOU'LL NEVER GET THE CHANCE TO KNOW! THAT is the real tragedy! But ofc all this is if you choose to romance Aerith, cause I got zero Clerith content while playing the game, meanwhile you can't escape some Cloti scenes (Lifestream, both Highwinds...) either way hoho. Let's also not forget that the whole Aerith/Clerith story was purposely designed to invoke as much emotion as possible. She's the first girl you see, all pink, flowery, loves life, comes on to you, nice, smiley - and gets cruelly killed. Everything calculated. It's to make you get as attached as possible to break your heart. Which is why her story brings such strong emotions out in people even 20 years later, why they're so ANGRY and OVERZEALOUS in their stance: 'if she has such unfair fate, if she's not happy - no one else can be!' In Japan she's like the most beloved character, because of her fans have anti-Tifa movements, making petitions demanding to lessen her role in remake (if things change, you'll know who SE has listened to lol). That's why they ruined Advent Children by making Cloud 'emo', just to bring her back somehow. That's why from time to time SE will throw them a bone in side games, where they bring the not-real Cloud (who's not like actual Cloud at all) and have him make allusions to some dead girl and feelings - to make that fanbase happy. But it has nothing to do with actual FF7 story.

despite not suffering from survivor's guilt, I really relate to cloud in this movie. I have a tendency to push people away from myself, feeling that I don't deserve their care or love, and oftentimes I end up completely missing the signs that people even *want* to be close to me. I guess it feels like I'm dragging a heavy weight of my own, and that somehow I need to overcome it.

Honestly, it's a big reason why Cloud is so disliked in Advent Children. People callously call him "Emo" and "depressed" without understanding why he's like that. They don't take the timeline into account. They also kinda just conveniently forget that Cloud is DYING here, legit DYING and that's making EVERYTHING worse for him. By all rights, it MAKES SENSE that Cloud is like this. He is responsible for giving the black materia to Sephiroth which unintentionally lead to Aerith's death. He was ostracized as a kid by his town and blamed for Tifa falling off Mt. Nibel AS A SMALL CHILD. The adults, without knowing it was Tifa's idea to go on the mountain, blamed Cloud and so did all of Tifa's friends because of the coma she went into. Is it any fucking wonder the guy feels useless? Nobody would hang out with him as a kid and so he gained a superiority complex to mask how little he thought of himself. Goes off to be a SOLDIER, fails to succeed there despite his best efforts. He's assigned with Sephiroth and Zach to go to Nibelheim and is forced to watch as his childhood idol, Sephiroth the war hero, burns down his hometown, kills his mom, severely harms both Tifa and Zach, and is then experimented on for an untold amount of time. Gets saved by Zach as a near comatose corpse, watches Zach die in front of his eyes and then drags himself and the buster sword all the fucking way on foot to Midgar. Avalanche and the blowing up of the reactor happens, he's helpless much like Tifa as the Sector 7 plate crushes the town he was JUST STARTING TO GET AQUAINTED WITH. Is toyed with by Sephiroth to the point that he thinks he never existed in the first place, made to think he's a puppet with no real emotions. Forced to do what Sephiroth wants, gives him the black materia, and ultimately even though he saved the world, Cloud most likely internalized that victory as him just "cleaning up his mistakes". He almost doesn't even go to the north crater because he thinks he'll get controlled again. Cloud is given no time to grieve during any of this, and had no time to come to terms with his psychological scarring that came with clearing up his memories and remembering who he is. He then just had to go and kill Sephiroth a second time, which again, he looked up to as a kid. Cloud literally had no time to process ANY of this due to the Mako poisoning and only RECENTLY found himself but everybody expects him to just be "over it." It's so disrespectful to Cloud's journey of self acceptance

I always thought that Tifa and Cloud share a strong bond even in a romantic way, because Aerith is dead so Cloud and Aerith obviously could not make any sense. Cloud and Aerith had a thing before, but I believe that with Tifa he had something stronger. Just look around everytime that Tifa and Cloud appear togheter, Cloud always try to protect Tifa. In Kingdom Hearts, Tifa is Cloud light and she lives inside his heart. In dissidia, Cloud try to protect Tifa by everything that may hurt her. In AC Tifa is the pillar to not let Cloud fall into completely darkness. People claim that Cloud and Aerith is an official couple, but Tifa and Cloud was already a thing since they are childrens. So yeah, Tifa and Cloud are official more than Aerith and Cloud.

I think Final Fantasy VII (Talking about the game itself) has a lot of potential to be a movie. It would make a great mix of epic, comedy and drama without losing track of tone. I’ve never even played the original game, but I’ve played Remake literally 12 times, and Ray Charles could see Cloud and Aerith are the only ones that come off in any romantic way whatsoever. Cloud and Tifa come off like a weird brother/sister type of relationship. All I said was she’s basically telling Cloud to get the f over Aerith and move on. Max Dood is a die hard Cloti shipper and even he admits that Aerith is the one that breaks Cloud out of his shell and that Aerith is the one that brings romantic feelings out of Cloud. I don’t care if Cloud and Tifa end up together at all. I love Tifa both as a character and a combatant. But after playing Remake without any preconceived notions or expectations and Cloti’s sit there pretending like it’s “obviously Cloud and Tifa” are completely full of sh*t lmfao In Remake Cloud and Aerith show more affection than anybody. There’s so much evidence throughout the game. If anybody says otherwise they’re clearly blinded by their own expectations and nostalgia. If Cloud and Tifa end up together and can be happy…..great!!! More power to them, but if they’re just going to be miserable because he clearly loves Aerith still…..then why would anybody want that….? If you ask me I hope more of the story changes in Rebirth. Actually I don't disagree with you. I know 1 Cloti fan who is very annoying and wants to start drama. Overall, tumblr is full of shittiest part of shipwars, but at least it allows me to block people. both of the ships are canon. literally. there is too many points for both sides. in the remake the player gets to choose who cloud should be with. though i am a clerith shipper, so i can try to explain why they are probably more cannon. in the remake, tifa asks cloud about his relations with her, and he tells her they saved each other, round and round it goes. but then she asks, "are you sure there's nothing else going on?" and he stays silent. Aerith asks the same thing to Cloud, wondering if tifa and him are together, and he flat out denies it. In aerith's resolution scene, she tells him not to fall in love with her. He doesn't say anything, and she cups his face with one hand, saying "even if you think you have. it's not real." he replies with "do I have a say in any of this?" hinting that he wants to decide what he feels for her, not her automatically ruling it off as nothing. It's cannon aerith loves him ; more than she loved zack. she said herself : ""Although called my first love, that doesn’t mean that we became particularly intimate. Yeah, I call this first love. Mother got angry at Zack when she saw me like that. That matter made him completely at fault. At first when I met Cloud, I believed he was similar to Zack. Little actions, the way he spoke… his kindness. But Cloud is Cloud. I, now undoubtedly, love Cloud much more than Zack. " even if she fell in love with him because of how much he resembled zack, it doesn't matter. she grew to love CLOUD not because of zack, but because of who cloud is. another example is in advent children; the scene above, where tifa says "dilly dally shilly shally!" cloud brushes it off. yes he cares, but not as much as when aerith says it. when aerith says "dilly dally shilly shally; maybe it's you who needs to do the forgiving." after she says that, it gives him almost like a little push to forgive himself. nothing tifa says will help him, but a few sentences from aerith helps him go on.

Some people don’t like the remake voices compared to this, but I liked them; especially rude’s new voice. Crispin Freeman did a fantastic job, but rudes new va did marvelous. I do wish quinton Flynn was still Reno though. New va for him isn’t the best but it’s not that bad. All others were great too

Well, Tifa really snapped it out on Cloud for constantly dragging himself ard like an a**hole when ppl are depending on him. If Tifa had decided not to be with him, i think Cloud wont be able to survive long. It really doesnt matter if Cloud was in love with her or Aerith, bcos for all the things she had and would do for him, she deserves to be with him if she could help it, not as if Cloud was such a great guy or anything (bcos he’s an a**hole like me), but bcos Tifa deserves to be with the person she loves and deserves Cloud in a way or another. It doesn’t matter if Cloud doesn’t reciprocate Tifa’s feelings for him, bcos he doesn’t deserve her anyway. He could end up with Aerith for all i care. Bcos, even if he managed to save the Planet 100 times over, he still will not deserve Tifa. Period.

i don't see how this scene, or this entire movie, added anything to the ff7 story at all. all it did was cast the same stumbling blocks in the character's development (but only cloud and tifa, not the others) - stumbling blocks that they had already overcome in ff7. cloud let go of his fears. he let go of his losses. he forgave himself for his weaknesses; for letting himself be manipulated by sephiroth, for letting aerith die; he overcame all of these and upheld zack's dying wishes and avenged aerith. and - he and tifa came to terms with their feelings for each other. and not to mention some other things that happened under the highwind... now cloud is running from himself again, afraid of himself again, pushing people away again, there is nothing new. a little tough love from tifa and now he's back and he saves the world again. what retched regurgitation. i don't care what anyone says; this movie will never be canon in my book. not only that, but other characters have actually regressed in development; reno and rude are shown as bumbling idiots, barrett is shown not to be so bright either, yuffie still hordes materia - for no good reason... sid, nanaki, vincent, and the traitor have zero development here. (although it is nice to have a little more screen time from vincent). and we now have three emo mini-sephiroths that came from god only knows where.... all of this flashy animation and cool fight scenes promise so much more than this movie can deliver. and don't even get me started on cloud and aerith. they are so over. i say again: this movie will never be canon.

@@Sahil-rb4er Well, since Luigi was wrong, I doubt that you do. She's not asking him to choose between Aerith or her, that shows a basic lack of understanding of Tifas character. It's like Cloud says to Sephiroth at the end "stay where you belong, in my memories". The "memory" isn't a reference to having to choose between Aerith and Tifa, but between the past and present. She's telling him to live in the present, instead of wallowing in guilt. The kids need him now, that's what he should be focused on, on what is happening NOW, not his failures of the past, but to make sure he doesn't make new mistakes, TODAY.

I've started seeing it this way, too. I mean I feel like it doesn't necessarily matter whether Cloud and Tifa are outright romantic because their relationship is so much about unconditional love and having each other's backs no matter what. But with Aerith, it's like... Just put your finger over how flirty she gets, and her teasing demeanor towards him really does feel pretty reminiscent to that of a big sister.
