I agree with captainandthelady. It's all about population. The die was cast when we started using fossil fuels in large quantities. The more we used the more we could do, the more we did, the more the population grew, and the more the population grew, the more energy we needed. It is a vicious cycle. The fertility rate is at an all-time low, but the population base has grown so much that in 2023 another 70 million people were added to the planet. That's more than the population of France. We won't voluntarily stop reproducing, we can't stop using energy, and after a couple of decades of hype and investment, wind and solar produce just 3% of global energy, so clean energy can't replace fossil fuels. And it's not just climate change. We are also in the midst of a sixth mass extinction caused by a massive collapse of ecosystems around the world thanks to rapacious industrial and agricultural practices. There is not much cause for hope, but we should still do what little we can to slow down our race towards calamity.

The cause of all of the, energy/pollution, problems is over population. We are the ones that are responsible. Either we do it or Mother Nature will do it to us. You see it all the time in nature when you have over population. If she does it, it will be painful and messy. Our choice. Personally, I don't think we have what it takes to do the right thing until it's too late but that's my opinion.
