Rajon Rondo is the poster child of people who turn it up in the playoffs. 4th all-time triple doubles post-season, everyone knows the guy is one of the best defensive point guards ever, can lead a team wherever he goes. Hell, he was crushing in Chicago during the playoffs when he got hurt.

@@slickeddy2000 Out of all college players in 06-07 Rondo had a steal rate that was literally double any other player in college. I think the steal rate stat was defined as the percent of times a player strips the ball from the opponent he is guarding. So a somewhat percise stat, but a very interesting one. I think his was 18%. Ainge said that this stat was the primary reason he took rondo. His one on one defense was just head and shoulders above everyone else. They also cited his 2.1 steals in those 66 playoff games over his celtic years.

I think you’re missing the point of what they are trying to do. If it was just one guy, or even two guys, talking then I would agree with you. But with three different people I think it works better this way. Also, the vast majority of Bill Simmons content is done as a podcast. So these weren’t primarily intended for KZbin. So they just filmed themselves doing the podcasts so they could upload them to KZbin as well as having the podcast available for download.

I would be intrigued to hear what they have to say about the draft classes in the first half of the 2010’s. In particular because in the 02 and 03 drafts, they took a couple of players who were busts in the lower lottery based on the potential that something might not have happened. And a question I have about one of the players here: They said that Rudy Gay’s perception was hurt by analytics. If he came up today with his game would he have still been viewed as a top prospect? Also, drinking game while watching these videos: Take a shot every time Bill mentions he had Clippers season tickets.

I can't believe they went 45 min without mentioning that this was the gap year when the minimum age rules changed, which was probably the biggest reason why there were no stars available. If the rules hadn't changed there's a pretty good chance KD and Oden would've gone in '06 instead of '07, and all the best "one and done" had already been drafted the year before right out of highschool.

Funny Brandon Roy model citizen story: in high school, he played varsity as a sophomore. Our team was loaded with talented seniors, including B’s older brother Ed and a few other guys who played roles at D1 schools the following year. Someone in his own school’s cheering section was drunk and heckling Brandon a bit (“get the kid off the floor” and similar), so Brandon hopped up three rows and popped him one. Busted nose, blood everywhere, and B just went right back into the game.

He wasn't a really good player, but he's not a Kwame Brown/Michael Olowokandi/Darko Milicic type bust that people paint him as either. He's a player that got taken a bit too early and really should have had a specific role on a team as a stretch big next to some other big who'd clean up for him on the defensive end. He was a pretty good scorer, but the thing is he never actually played on a good team and was never an exciting player to watch, so people mostly remember his shortcomings and weaknesses, so it was always easy to pigeon hole him as that Darko-type bust, but he really wasn't an irredeemable player.

As a Magic fan I can say JJ was solid but needed time to develop. Keith Bogans, Piatris (however u spell it) and Matt Barnes were all better options at 2 guard. In those early years JJ would get abused on D. He later became a solid team defender.

Kyle reminds me of a smaller Billups, smart player, good passer, makes others better, good 3 shooter, good leader, strong minded and most importantly a winner (a bit underrated because he is not flashy). Brandon Roy definitely more talented but all things consider Lowry is a good way to go with this draft.

i think we have to look at these redrafts as if these players have to be my foundation not allowed to have a kawhi or derozan or siakam like lowry had or early on gasol and then ming and t mac...lowry had a great career but is he capable on his own of being the best player on a playoff team without those guys helping him?..no...sorry lamarcus was...multiple times...give me him..lowry vs rondo is a debate i go with lowry slightly but rondo at his peak has a case for 1...we can't look at their teams we have to look at them as individuals on a new team

@YeeSoest

I'm not sure because I'm not that well versed in every past postseason series but I guess it's about making your team beat their matchups by playcalling, playmaking, defense and hustle more so than about outscoring him 1on1, that obviously never happened. Rondo has his ways of helping his team win and DRose may have been an early victim of that. Not sure though, Bill could easily be wrong here^^

You could say the three Rudy Gay trades, they didn’t mentioned the trade from the Raptors to the Kings. Raptors started to win right away after that trade and made the playoffs for the first time in 5 or 6 years. That trade gave the raptors a solid second unit and saw Derozan and Lowry elevate their game.
