Is it that or is it that anything that touches resin can be considered toxic after? Like if you put a hot steak on a resin cutting board that will inadvertently get resin in your steak yeah?
@jappleseed4393
@jappleseed4393 Жыл бұрын
@@kateapple1 you can get food safe resin. it just still scratches up if you try to cut on it using a sharp knife so works for a fruit bowl but not a chopping board.

Use standoffs that are used for clay pots in kilns. You can get the entire project submerged into the resin. Looks awesome. Not sure about the resin and being a cutting board but I have no clue how it chips or reacts to a knife or transferring to the food.

Hey Mark, Sorry it took so long to get back to your comment. That is the G0513ANV Grizzly 17" Bandsaw, it is discontinued. But it is basically the same thing as the G0513 www.grizzly.com/products/grizzly-17-2-hp-bandsaw/g0513. It 2hp and that is all I need. I use sawblade.com blades on it. This machine is a work horse. It has plenty of power to get the cutting I need done. It adjusts easily. I have re-sawed 10" boards with no drift using a 3/4" re-saw blade. I did buy a mobile base for it as I like the things in my shop to be mobile. It has two dust ports, one under the table and the other below the bottom wheel. I only use the top one and it gets most of the dust. I really wish I would have gotten the Grizzly G0513X2BF only because it has a foot break. Added safety. Over-all I can whole heartedly recommend this. I hope that helps. Feel free to ask what ever questions you need too.

Thanks so much! That's from a woodworkers podcast from a few years back. The message is spot on.

Beautiful! Would routing in an inlay of cutting board on the back be a good option to make it functional (no feet)? The CNC would be the perfect tool to do the job.

That could work. Display on one side and useful on the other.

Beautiful piece Ken! BTW, I thought I heard you say that, "the piece is a decorative cutting board". I don't have a lot of time in working with resin, so I wanted to make sure that my understanding is correct and that decorative means that the piece should "not" be used to cut on? Glad to see you're healing is coming along good... Thanks, V

Mike, although most resins these days are food safe, they should never be cut on....now this is my opinion and here's why. TotalBoat Resin is non toxic once cured, but if you use a knife on it to cut food on it, you will most like cut into the resin (Resin is a form of plastic). This will cause little bits of the resin to get into your food. Food contact is okay though. That is why I have a NOTE on my website when selling pieces that says for "My pieces are sold for Display Only or non liquid uses"

Would a dome topped wire brush head for a dremel work for scuffing the surface between pours?

Have you ever tried to take a diseased piece of dead wood with all those bug holes in it.. and made something?? I feel like it would look really cool to have resin pour and sneak out of all those little teeny tiny holes… With an LED light in the back Would look super sick
