I have this really hot take about hentai! I personally believe that octopuses are a lesser evolved alien species either put on this planet by accident from an astroid containing alien single cell organisms that collided with earth, or just put here on purpose to study their evolution in our planet's environment. I believe this due to Octopus DNA genome being 6 times larger than humans, their separately evolved superior intelligence, and their unknown or "alien" DNA. My take is that somewhere deep in our subconscious, we know that this species is essentially an alien to our planet, and since fethishes can be either nature or nurture, it's just a fetish on a deep subconscious level to either see someone get fvcked by, or personally fvck an alien species. It's essentially just an alien sex fetish. Cuz I cannot possobly comprehend any other conclusion as to why someone would want to see Octopuse on human sex, even in the fetish realm, it's an anomaly. Every other fetish has a reason behind it, this one does not, and there's a reason for everything.

Also both Sam Neil and Adjani would later state that the making of Possession was incredibly difficult on them, both physically and psychologically, which I guess shows just how grueling that type of acting is for the performers. “Having to totally commit her mind and body to the lead role of Anna, Adjani would later comment that it took her several years to recover from the torment of the performance.” Sam Neill noted, “I call it the most extreme film I’ve ever made, in every possible respect, and he asked of us things I wouldn’t and couldn’t go to now. And I think I only just escaped that film with my sanity barely intact”.

Жыл бұрын
@@Valkalium style contains many more things than just simple aesthethics
@Valkalium Жыл бұрын
@ sure does… in a good movie. In my opinion Possession is an overrated mess that does boil down to mostly just empty style. Anything can be explained as intentional as in this video; acting is not bad but follows Polish norms at the time, the camera work is not plain bad but characteristic of the director, the themes are not mumbo jumbo but covert criticisms. Even simple continuity errors are infallible - “it’s just a subtle mark of the unreliable narrator”! All that may be. I still find it too tedious and prolonged to get through a second viewing and so inconsistent and unbalanced the main feeling left after watching is that of frustration and tiredness. The movie may take itself too seriously, but what makes it feel pretentious as all hell is actually the blind cult following.

Considering that this is the kind of script that most stars, even the braver and bolder ones, pay people good money to keep as far away from them as possible, I can't say what attracted Adjani to the role but something about it clearly clicked, as she throws herself into it with the kind of intensity most could never dream of mustering.

I watched this film really, really young, and the only interpretation I really had was this idea that you can still love someone, but there's so much discord and anger and fighting in the relationship that it's too hard loving them, but you're reluctant to let them go, and maybe fantasize about what you could change about them to make them perfect to fix the relationship. In the movie the 'perfect' version of their lover comes into existence. I don't know if that's even right, but how I always saw it. Later I found out Adjani is like the French Meryl Streep, which is amusing because Streep would never have had the balls to make something like this.

And this may have produced that very unique style, with over-the-top expressive performance. You may find this also in Jodorowsky, but in a different way. And that grim polish reality affected the way movies were made. Check "Seksmisja", one of the most unique polish sci fi comedies about a society in which men are all but extinct. Or anything really by polish director Piotr Szulkin, with "O-bi, O-ba: Koniec cywilizacji" (O-bi O-ba: The end of civilization) being the prime example. Check them out, You won't regret it.

Frankly, I've considered "Possession" to be my favourite film of all time for a few years and it still remains my fav along with Hideaki Anno's "The End of Evangelion". It's a film that introduced my into Żuławski's dark, twisted and fascinating world which I haven't left since. There wasn't, isn;t and will never be another auteur with a mind like his. I'd say that despite the dark and depressing tone of his films, almost all of them have that ray of hope at the very end of the story (like the young nun in "The Devil"). Żuławski wasn't afraid to show the evil within mankind but presenting it on-screen actually resulted in something opposite, his films feels incredibly human. P.S. That bit about girls with Anna profile pics made me chuckle a little bit because it's way too real for me. I used to know one in the past and it surely was a scarring experience.

Alright just have to say really informative brief summary of Zulawski and his filmmaking career before Possession, makes me super intrigued about his filmography. I also had only heard of Andrzej Wajda from Ashes and Diamonds, you explain the chronology really well (as well as really effective editing of stuff from those movies), especially for someone who has no idea who these ppl or their influence/fame are. And somehow you do this in just a few minutes. Keep up the great work.

Suuuch a weirdly captivating movie. Watched it randomly on a Sunday afternoon about a year back knowing nothing but Sam Neil and really, truly enjoyed it.

Possession is a unique horror movie into madness on a different level.

I think I enjoyed Isabelle's performance most. She was a striking beauty and an incredible actress. Almost hypnotic. I just watched the film and I've never seen anything like it. The director and the actors sure had a lot of trust in one another to make such intense scenes. Some of them border on being too silly or extreme because of the method they used, but it was surreal in a good way. I don't know if I'll ever watch it again, but I sure won't forget it and I recommend everyone see it at least once.

Just watched this film and I'm now binge watching analyses on it. I decided not to skip the ad portion of the video, in case youtube keeps track of those things, and all I can say is LOL

I thought this was a Dario Argento film, not Polish and never knew Sam Neill was also in it. On my "must watch" list.

I actually think the setting in West Berlin, intentionally or not, marrs western capitalism as much as it does communism. For me it was about the experience of disfunction which can emerge in any system. I especially loved the way they used their bodies to interact with the entirity of every space they're in. It makes the role of architecture so much more tangible. I feel like I know what a concrete wall feels like when they smash something against it.

It's over the top, but still not as bad as 'Serbian film's which I took the DVD out in the yard and proudly broke it with a hammer 😁
