Its the psychological torture of digging your own grave dum dum. Thats a movie trope for a reason, it is not only avoiding the task of digging, but making your victim do manual labor makes them have hope, think that there is a way out. Also consider why they are doing the labor. Are they being given a chance to run? If they complete it will they see someone else buried in it and get a second chance? What if they just give up the info, can they stop? Kinda failed on execution because duh you're going in
