This was a HUGE task, but wow does it feel good to have it behind us! We also just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to TotalBoat for supporting our refit. They've been with us for nearly this whole project, and have supplied pretty much all the epoxy we've used. So, full disclosure: we started out on this refit using West System, just because that's what Aladino was used to using. Shortly after starting the refit, TotalBoat reached out and asked if we wanted to try their epoxy. We were a little unsure, but their offer was no strings attached, so we thought we'd just test it out. If we didn't like it, we could simply return to West. We got a shipment of 2:1 epoxy, with their fast, medium, and slow hardeners. And long story short, we loved it. The range in hardener speed is SO helpful when working with varying temperatures and different project sizes. The fast is really fast, the slow is really slow, and the medium is a nice in between -- there's a bigger range here than we found with West. We also really like the fact that the epoxy is low blush, and they mean it. We've had pretty much no blushing when using the epoxy. West does have a low blush hardener, but it's more expensive so we only used it for certain jobs. It's really nice to have that low blush effect sort of "built in" to our daily epoxy. TotalBoat as a company has also just been so supportive and helpful throughout this process. Emails are answered immediately and questions are answered. So -- just thought I should share all this, since we literally used gallons of TotalBoat epoxy on our decks in this episode! I know when you see a product splashed all over KZbin, it can be hard to know "is this ACTUALLY good or is it just marketing??" Well, Aladino and I are pretty adamant to only use the best products on our precious boat, and we're very happy to have TotalBoat on board! I think Total Boat has been very smart by having so many KZbinrs use their products. I would say pretty much all DIYers and hobbyists turn to KZbin for help with their projects. I used their Wet Edge topside paint on my boat build because I saw it on you tube. The paint looks great, but one thing I didn’t like about it is it took at least a day or 2 to dry enough to sand between coats. My final coat of primer took a week because of cooler temps and high humidity. I think I will go with a 2 part polyurethane paint next time.

I've never had use for, nor used epoxy (except as 2-part 'glue'), so I cannot comment on that, but I Have spent days and days in Tyvek suits and can attest to the Sauna effect! As for the other worn PPE, Ansells Touch Tuff Gloves. Wow, what a discovery they were! Back in the old days when I still worked for a living (ok, it was only 2 years ago), we tried many, many different types and styles of Medigloves, and found that almost all were not worth the cardboard boxes they are sold in. We dealt with some Very nasty chemicals, and at other times oil and grease-covered chains and gears, and at other times Sluice room equipment, and these Ansells were the Only gloves that protected us as well as we could expect, yet gave the touch and feel for handling small screws etc. Now my Grandson has his first car, and I can see myself getting dirty with the mechanics of it, I have had to buy myself a box out of my own pocket. I have opted for the longer cuff version as I now wear a watch, and these are blooming expensive here in the UK, but truly worth every penny.

Pilots for passenger airliners utilize something called “Crew Resource Management “ (CRM”. They found the old school method of whatever the captain said or did was not to be challenged, resulted in many fatal accidents. So they borrowed CRM from NASA and modified the crew’s training to encourage open discussion related to flight issues among the crew. The captain still decides but no longer is it bad voodoo for a junior crew member to make suggestions. Now the two of you always work as a team and the respect you have for each other is apparent. This video exemplified your version of CRM to resolve a disappointing problem. Kudos!

I gotta hand it to Al (I hope he doesn't mind I call him Al) he remained pretty jovial through that whole process. I remember working at a Yacht Yard in Connecticut, and Hurricane Hugo came through, so as a result we had a Shed FULL of Hurricane Rejects people wanted fixed...Sailboats, Powerboats...Dinghys...and our Boss, who shall remain nameless would scream at the slightest provocation or screw up, hours and hours of Fart-Rocking Hulls for Gelcoat, and having that guy yelling the entire time. Incase y'all didn't know what Fart Rock is it's supposed to be used for Insulation for chimneys and such, but it was GREAT for Sanding Fiberglass, and the smell that stuff gave off from the friction is why it bore the name, but I digress. In the almost 2 years we spent fixing all those boats we must have gone through 10 or 11 guys because they got sick of all the screaming from "Bossman", and that's why I commented on Al's joviality...well done!

Temp is everything. The job itself is routine. If you can completely replace the deck beams, a much more difficult job, you can fiberglass a deck. You two are amazing.

One tip for tent building. Bubble wrap is a great insulator. I once built a bubble wrap tent inside a hangar to keep it warm when building a carbon fibre plane during the winter in Sweden. It looked like some kind of a serial killer's lair, but it kept it toasty without burning so much fuel to keep it that way.

Another thing: you might want to cover the peelply as walking on it can lead to scratches. Which again can lead the pealply to tear when you remove it. It can drive you nuts having to scrape the remainders off!

I worked for years on a wind farm laying this much glass every day. To help with wetting out the fibreglass we heated the resin before mixing it. The warm resin will flow much better and it does not seem to affect the drying time. However, if you leave it too long in the pot it will exotherm a bit sooner than normal. Hope this little tip will help you with your laminating.

That was a brilliant idea to make a tent above the deck so you could raise the temperature of the who;e area. I have seen many refits where the people get this one issue wrong and the epoxy kicks too quickly or it doesn't set at all. I think the second is worse but luckily, you did neither and got the job done perfectly. Aladino has a great idea to keep going on the bulwarks while you have the tent functionally making a micro-climate in that area. Once the exterior is complete, you can work below decks at your pleasure even if you run out of visa time and you have to bring the boat back to Canada. I love what you are doing to bring this boat back to life. The first time I saw Total Boat epoxy was on Brett and Jade Evans' boat Eva`. They used it to rebuild the substructure of their salvaged Beneteau and they also used it to build their custom countertops. Getting Total Boat to sponsor you by providing the supplies is what you two deserve for all of the hard work you put into the making of your videos and the repairs on both of your boats. In my opinion, that couldn't have happened to a more deserving couple.

Beautiful and well done! We have used every trick in the book when fiberglassing, including setting the epoxy cups in buckets of ice in Florida with temperatures in the 90s. Aladino and Maya, you are an inspiration. There's a rhythm to your relationship. Usually, when one of you is "down" the other is "up" and what a blessing that is. Good teamwork!

And here in cold country I preheat my resin and slow hardener before applying. In small batches it wets out the glass better. I've never done such a big area however.
