didyouknowthatiloveyousomuchthatimadeareallylongnamebutmaybejustmaybeiloveyoutoomuchthatidiedtheend! They don't need all of that money and technological advancements. They have faith. Whether you're a believer or not you've got to admit that faith is very important. Notice how poor people are more friendly and giving.

Notice how poor people often riot for better living conditions and due to being molded by religious doctrine often target minority groups and persecute them because they use the religion to justify it. It is seen throughout history. Religion is a backwards coddling mechanism for the week minded and the feeble.

Sir Usopp People need religion or they need belief in their own abilities? Which? I also wouldn't say religious people are friendlier. There are religious people who aren't nice. Idk, man.

North Carolina, my state, is not poor. 16th best state for business, billions in budget surpluses, etc. Plus, two things. The south has considerably lower costs of living, probably half the cost of LA. And most black people live here also.
@johnpieloio5313
@johnpieloio5313 7 жыл бұрын
North Carolina is "best for business"? Thats just code word for "anti-worker" laws and low wages. Billions in budget surpluses? Hell, dirt poor countries in the world can have budget surpluses. Just dont spend any money on a public safety net and treat the people as crap and you have "budget surplus". Low cost of living? Thats mostly a function of housing costs and housing isnt a cost, its an investment. Medicine isnt cheaper in North Carolina. You'll get ripped off in NC as well. Air fares arent cheaper in North Carolina. You'll get ripped off in NC as well. Internet isnt cheaper in NC. You'll get rippd off there as well.

*indoctrination. heh. I live in NC, and I attend what is the 5th best high school in the state, and preforms very well on tests. This area is relatively religious and highly conservative. Not only that, but my state has one of the highest rates of migration to it from other states in the union. Also, keep in mind, that we have high populations of black people. I don't want to be racist or anything, but, you know. On average more likely to drop out, and things like that.

I feel that the reason why religion is so high/low in these states has to do with their situations. A lot of the non-religious states are well off. They manage their resources well and have a decent amount of per capita income. They don't have too many worries and they're doing just fine. But the states that aren't are kind of on the downside. Mississippi and Alabama, specifically, have large black populations that obviously descended from the slaves and the generations of social, political, and economic hardships following slavery like segregation. This is why there are large crime rates and gang members and whatnot. However, it's also the reason why faith/religion is still very prominent in those states. See, the aspect of pure faith lies in hope for a better livelihood, for a better future, for a better everything. It is born out of pure struggle. The Judahites really started their faith after being exiled from Babylon, a time of suffering, and they further solidified their religion after the exodus from Egypt. They even have an entire book about suffering and struggle (the Book of Job). I think that we can deduce from the video that it's only when life gets easy that people begin to give up on faith. They say, "hey, I'm doing pretty well off. My kids are being fed, I'm able to pay my taxes. I'm good. I don't need religion." But in the states where many hardships exist, religion stays because of the feeling of hope that the people there so desperately need.

Also, I would like to remind the public that it is possible to believe in God while maintaining faith in science. Old school, mainstream religion does undeniably inhibit this 'new' type of belief but remember, Galileo Galilei (Helio Centricity), Isaac Newton (Gravity, Calculus), Georges Lemaitre (Big Bang), Blaise Pascal, Richard Dawkins (Evolutionary Biologist), Francis Collins (Human Genome Project), and even Charles Darwin (Evolution, duh), all believed in God. Many of them did not fully conform to the strict authoritarian regime of the church but were nonetheless religious. The number of Islamic, Jewish, Hindu and Buddhist thinkers, mathematicians, chemists, physicists, astronomers, etc abound as well, some of them changing our understanding of the world entirely. Over two thirds of the world's scientists believe in a 'Prime Mover', the 'one who started the Big Bang', you know what I mean. What I'm trying to say is that in this modern world, faith has to let go of its ancient beginnings and take upon a new face. A face that accepts both faith and science, for one of them is blind and the other is incomplete. "Religion without science is blind, science without religion is lame (handicapped)" ~Albert Einstein.

That's my experience of Utah too. You have the LDS people and the people who have become so irritated with the shenanigans of the LDS Church that they've become turned off by religion in general. Another factor is that a lot of the population in the state live in Salt Lake county and urban areas tend to be less religious. If the population was more spread out in the state, you would see higher religiosity numbers. P.S. It's weird for me to describe Salt Lake County as "urban" but that might be because I'm from NYC.

I think it's funny about Alabama ranking as a first place religious state, tied with Mississippi, because that is so contradictory with how the voting keeps the good ol' boy legislature in power. The Alabama Legislature and Governor put so little value on the people of this state and completely underfund the public schools on a yearly basis. Keeping the public schools underfunded is the easiest way to keep the poor (blacks and whites) unable to improve their situations. There's little about honest religious practice actually happening in Alabama, it's still all about keeping the minorities in their place... The 60's apparently had little effect on the grand state of Alabama after the dust settled. If someone wants to argue with the result of low funding vs educational outcome, run the numbers and draw your own conclusions. Being a recognized "highly religious" state such as it is has no ethical benefits for the common people of Alabama. Yes, a bunch of people responded to a religious survey in a certain manner but don't think that all these born-again, holy rollers actually practice what they preach. I'd imagine that this survey was about as good as the 2016 Presidential polls that predicted a different result from the actual results. Religion is not about polls, it's about how you live your life and treat others. If this post hurt someone's feelings, then grab your Bible and actually read it instead of carrying it around for all to see. People should see your religious convictions in your life, not in your hand along with your coffee cup!
@kkknotcool

They are also really black states. Black people are far more religious than white people. But it is a lot easier to blame racist. Gotta love that sub meta self righteous feeling we all crave. I can see the gears working in your head. "I dislike religious people and I dislike racist so lets combine them." Paul Simmons completely agree used to live in Alabama till I was 10 and now am 14 living in Iowa and that education system religion and live style is so different in Alabama the schools are horrible and bad teaching Iowa has very good schools some of the best in the nation but religion is huge in Alabama everyone believes in Jesus and you can talk About it in class In Iowa if you talk about God everyone bashes on you and nobody talks about Jesus or God and then how poor it is in Alabama and Iowa it’s wealthy plus the amount of black people there just is a huge difference

TheRagingGamer what? u don't understand what being agnostic or atheist really is then. No atheist say they KNOW there is no god, they just dont believe in a god. All atheists, when u ask them what they know they say i dont know. Richard Dawkings, one of the worlds most famous atheists (also known for hes work in evolution and biology) gives the best example. He says on a scale of 1 to 7 with 1 being u believe there is a god and 7 there is no god, he says he is a 6. I think that gives the best representation and the difference between the 2 questions.

Look at Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. It's more like philosophy/way of life than religion. Based on Wikipedia, 80% of them have no religion. Now let's look at where they are currently. Is China an advanced country? Do they believe in global warming?

Thank You Lord for allowing me to be taught the truth of Your love for us even though we are as filthy as we are. I am very pleased to be able to hear President Donald Trump state that we as Americans will strive to "make America great again"!!! On the other hand it is sad to know that some of these states mentioned have forgotten why America was great to begin with and it looks to me as if she has been abundantly blessed by Our Lord and Savior. Pastors getting paid is the same as murderers getting paid. Both get paid for doing harm.

Yeah, we don't agree with "Preistcrafts" (the teaching of the Gospel for money) either, but the LDS community is in the minority. There are religions out there that do NOT have any paid clergy. I'm just saying. :)

People seem to be saying religion, and good education don't mix. I go to a Catholic school, and we learn about the big bang, evolution, ect.

People claim science make people not believe in a God. But it has made me believe even more. Once you realize the complexity of the universe. You can't possibly say an explosion made it happen. There must have been something that caused that explosion or guided the creation of the complex universe

TheRagingGamer I don't understand the big bang theory very well. You understand it less then I do. Don't draw you're conclusions form an incompetent understanding of something.

Eddie the Head it only takes logic to come to the conclusion that the big bang happened because of something. And there are a million non religious answers to it and one simple religious answer. Any could be valid because we have no way of knowing what happened before the big bang. But we can theorize...

Sir Monkeys isn't it a basic scientific principle that something cannot come from nothing? I always thought that was a big flaw in the Big Bang theory

James Crabb Except the Big Bang Theory never states it came from nothing. Oh well. You Creationists will keep believing it says that anyway.
