Throughout the years there have been many, many, MANY lip syncs on RuPaul's Drag Race, most of the time one drag queen wins and the other sashays away, and everybody moves on. But sometimes, the results of these lip syncs get fans in a frenzy.
Today we're going to talk about 10 Lip Syncs that results left fans scratching their heads and yelling RIGGED from all stars seasons to older seasons, and the most recent Season 14.

AS2 had a couple production mistakes that would have made it even more amazing. One was this, and another is that they never made a member of Rolaskatox send one of the other two home. That would have been simply peak Drag Race.

Kerri’s whole run was so confusing. She was placed in the bottom when she didn’t deserve to be, then won the lip sync when she clearly did worse. Then had a week she should’ve been in the bottom but was safe. Then she was placed in the bottom again when she (arguably, this one is less clear) didn’t deserve to be, then did better in the lip sync (I’m sorry but Jasmine was a complete mess in that lip sync), and then went home. None of the choices made sense 😭

I think the wirdest part of Trixie vs Pearl is that the only confessional is Katya saying "Trixie has this, she is doing what she's supposed to" which is super similar to what Trixie said during "Twist of Fate". Granted, of course Katya did a lot better, but I find it bizarre that a producer would put a confessional that we can agree with just to complete ignore it

Alyssa Hunter hurts me the most, because it seems to have no small amount of bigotry in it. I'd root more strongly for Trixie (an equally clearcut case), except she's so much come out on top since then, and I feel Pearl's been wronged by WOW in other ways. It's also weird to me that being wronged by the show can make a queen's career while being unfairly favored by the show can do a lot to ruin it.

I always thought Trinity's bad cartwheel was a humorous nod to the scene earlier in the episode when they try to put cartwheels into the choreo and most of the queens completely fail at it. About Nina and Silky, I also find it strange that Nina was in the bottom two. They asked all the girls and they all agreed it was either Silky or Yvie. They wanted to juice their rivalry and maybe have a new Yvie vs Brooklyn in the finale, because their lipsync became iconic.

Trixie also didn't fit into the overarching storyline they wanted to tell for season 7, which was pitting "older" (Ginger was literally 29 lmao) campy glam/comedy queens vs young aesthetic-focused fashion queens. Same thing goes for Jaidynn. They were both on the "young" side, yet fit in more with the "old" side, Jaidynn being more traditionally glamorous and Trixie being super camp

Oh of what you listed here- Trixie aaaate Pearl in season 7, hands down. Ru said outright that she’d wanted to send Pearl home for her attitude but did t because production liked her arch and that she was the first really “hot” boy out of drag and fans would wanna see more of her. Matter of opinion but young Trixie in her boy clothes I thought was just as cute tbh, but I’m probs in the minority on that lol. That said, Allstars season 3 it very much looked like Kennedy won the final lip sync against Trixie- but it’s hard to gauge the “face”intensity and lip sync quality from home. From the sofa the queen doing the most flips and best choreography looks like the winner every time but it’s drag, not gymnastics, so there’s a lot of room for interpretation.

The Alyssa lipsync was the one that took me out, she’s a queen from my hometown and I’ve been wanting her on drag race for years. I knew that she would be bringing the most sickening looks and I know most people didn’t get the chance to know her and pin her up in their top 4 placements when the cast was first announced but I tell you I was really gunning for her to win the whole thing. I had a bad feeling about episode 4 bc it’s the same episode Yara went home on in AS6 and I had a feeling that Alyssa would either be a finalist or go home on Ep. 4 and the second one happened. I mean I’m glad everyone recognizes how amazing she is but I’m so sad that the show put no effort in getting to know her. If Jessica Wild is on AS8 and gets done dirty I really don’t know how I will cope.

It's yet another example of the ESL/bilingual/trilingual queens getting shafted. I noticed it with Yara in AS6, too, and she was a big name and had already won a challenge. It's like...they don't know how to judge queens who don't have English as their dominant language, and so they put them in the bottom when they have enough of an argument to do so. I'm ESL and I love and dread seeing them on, because I know they often get send home early or their accent being the butt of the joke.

This just reminded me that the makeover episode of S11 could've been so good... but it was just so, so bad. Putting it in a position where randomly only six of the nine eliminated queens reappear (rude!). Vanjie being absolutely robbed of a win (you could not recognize Ariel AT ALL, the family resemblance was uncanny). And then the lipsync... which, to be absolutely fair, should've been 100% a double sashay, regardless of the production's plans.

And honestly I think a double sashay would’ve worked narratively too. Like I know they wanted Silky at the end, but to have Silky and Yvie’s rivalry end with Silky being intimidated after Yvie and Brooke have a double shantay to one of the all-time greatest lip syncs, then going home in a very mediocre double sashay feels like a satisfying conclusion to that rivalry arc. Especially now that we know Silky went on to be an all time great lip sync assassin in all stars, but hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

You're alleging riggory, but RuPaul never says the bottom two contestants are on even footing when they enter the lip sync. He just says "this is your last chance to impress me and save yourself from elimination. Good luck and don't eff it up". So someone could win a lip sync and still not "impress" Ru enough for her to keep them.

This. I don’t think that if you win the lipsync it immediately means you get to stay. If the Queen was pretty much out the door, they can potentially save themselves with a PHENOMENAL lip sync, but they’re probably going to go home, even if they “win” the lip sync. That’s not what happened with all of these lip syncs, but a lot of people do seem to believe that winning the lip sync automatically means you’re staying.

I want to give my 2 cents on DeLa vs Bebe. Bebe was DESTROYING that lipsync and the moment she took her wig off was the climax of the song. She was on the very first season of the show and when she was on the show it was almost had this feeling of "you're here to compete in drag so stay in drag" and that's why we don't get too many wig removals in the earlier seasons. When they happened in the earlier seasons it's a very powerful moment as opposed to now where it's seen as just a basic flop move. It used to represent a queen losing the drag illusion, putting them in a very vulnerable state .See: Shannel losing her headpiece put perservering through the lipsync, and Yara breaking down on stage while lipsyncing against Alexis. Losing your wig used to be a much more powerful thing to happen because it showed that the queens were real people and not just these charicatures. Because Bebe is from the older seasons and is from the older school of drag (and I think also does not really watch drag race) taking her wig off during the lipsync against DeLa was supposed to mean so much more than the edit let it. Instead of this vulnerability that Bebe was trying to show it was written off as a queen being out of touch with drag race. This is what Jasmine Masters meant when she said "RuPaul's Drag Race done fucked up drag". tldr; I don't think Bebe threw the lipsync against DeLa

Jade was too guarded and reserved which RuPaul mentioned to her in the previous episode. After Akashia was eliminated Rebecca became tbe villain. Jade would've gone home regardless. Plus in the finale, the judges did admit that they were bias in keeping Rebecca so long because of how pretty she was.

I never thought of it that way, that makes sense. If you look at Aquaria's face right before Ru announces the double shantay, you can tell she knows she lost because she looks genuinely terrified and upset; and then in shock when she found out she was staying. And then her winner speech mentions getting a second chance, and for her I think that could only allude to what just happened. I think they really wanted Aquaria to win, so they kept her for the final round. I love her

Weirdly I really liked Rebecca Glasscock. She was pretty, had a very pedestrian sense of style, but she just had that 'something'. She had a strong presence, and she had it without being incredibly opinionated and egotistical like Shannel. And I really liked Shannel. I loved the fact she just stopped caring and just stayed in her own lane and made it to third place. Such a shame Javier gave up drag. Disagree on your point about production wanting a fashion queen to win season 7. That season was built for Ginger Minj to win. There were so many god damn acting challenges and so few design/runway challenges. If they wanted to favour the fashion queens, why not throw in more design and less acting. Meanwhile, Ginger is fantastic at campery and acting. I think production really wanted a big girl to win, which had been a big complaint from fans up to that point and even still today with no crowned big girl! I think Ginger didn't win because she didn't win over fans, they really didn't like her compared to Violet, and given the show was getting such poor criticism, I think production decided to appease the fans and crown the fan favourite over Ginger.

I always believe that lip syncs are only exactly what Ru says: a Last Chance to save yourself. So if you’re going into it the most disliked, or did a poor job that week, whatever, you’re going to have to do amazingly well AND your rival is going to have to do badly in order to have even a chance at staying. If you’re both closer to each other then maybe it would just be whoever is better. I think we mostly get that but sometimes we look at the winner and just have to double take when the other queen stays, because that’s when it’s not fair and we instinctively know.

My tinfoil hat idiot theory: they were gonna crown Roxxxy (rudemption sells well), have Alaska be a villain, and have Detox in third. Then Roxxxy, unfortunately, wasn't doing great in the challenges, and Katya came out of relatively fucking nowhere. Production expected RoLaskaTox to dominate utterly and did not remotely expect the season seven freak-off-the-leash to actually do well enough that they couldn't edit her poorly. So they just handed all of Katya's lipsync wins to Alaska, expecting her to eventually slip up so they could send her home and have a RoLaskaTox top three. Which leads directly to the Alaska tantrum landing her at the win. Production had a moment to latch onto and say "see that, she wants it so badly she lost her composure". So they could safely lose Roxxxy and avoid the embarrassment of eliminating one of the ultimate fan favorites after denying her multiple deserved wins.

Personally there are a lot of lip syncs that happened where I was STEAMING with the results! But Season 13 - 14 had the most; Jasmine v.s. Angeria, Jasmine v.s. Bosco, Olivia Lux v.s. Symone, Denali v.s. Olivia Lux, Utica v.s. Symone. And from other seasons like; BenDeLaCreme v.s. Darian Lake (the top 5 lip sync), Miss Fame v.s. Pearl, Tynomi Banks v.s. Ilona Verley, Lemon v.s. Rita Baga, Suki Doll v.s. Eve 6000, and many more. You should do a video of completely unfair bottom placements, and, also, the other way around.

I *fully* disagree with the Ariel vs Shuga lipsync being here. Ariel was absolutely not doing well with the song, even before the fall. She had this very weird, disco hand roll and like high school cheerleader-meets-early Britney Spears choreo moment, and it's very out of place with the genre and song. Ariel really didn't know what to do with this song, and it showed. Shuga absolutely felt that 90s, new jack swing vibe in it and the maturity in it. It was a pretty clear win to me, even without the fall.
