First team that comes to mind is the 2015 chiefs. It was my first year watching football. They started 1-5 then won 10 straight and a playoff game. Their turnaround got me invested in the league for the first time. It's a shame this team gets forgotten because nobody dares to remember the "Pre-Mahomes" Cheifs. But anyway, great vid KTO.

The 2002 Jets started 2-5 and finished 9-7 along with the AFC East title. They beat the Packers 42-17 to do so and in the Wildcard game, they shut out the Colts 41-0. It was a fun season overall led by Herm Edwards, Chad Pennington, and Curtis Martin along with others.

2008 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - were tied for first in the NFC South with Carolina at 9-3. Lost to Carolina in a MNF game and then went on to lose all their final 3 games including the home season-finale to a JaMarcus Russell-led Oakland Raiders team. They missed the playoffs and Jon Gruden got fired in the offseason. 1993 Miami Dolphins - started 9-2. Lost their final 5 games and missed the playoffs. Marino tore his Achilles in Week 6 @ Cleveland. 2007 Baltimore Ravens - started 4-2. Then went on to lose 9 of their final 10 games. They were the only team that came close to beating the Patriots in the season as they led for most of the game and collapsed in the 4th Quarter. Almost took back the game on an otherwise successful Hail Mary, but got stopped at the 2-yard line. 2021 Baltimore Ravens - started 8-3. Lost their final 6 games and missed the playoffs as Lamar Jackson missed half of the season due to ankle issues.

The 2018 Colts will always have a place in my heart. I was going through a rough year personally but the unexpected, amazing 9-1 finish to the season after starting 1-5 made things more palatable. The way they just came together and played well and came back in big games, it was quite a treat. It’s a shame that turned out to be Andrew Luck’s last season, but I’ll always be grateful for the entertainment, thrills, and greatness he displayed in his short career despite our organization failing him. In my mind he went out with a bang, and I hope the Colts can finally recapture the standard Peyton, Dungy, and Andrew set for them and win another Lombardi. I also hope I live to see it

When it comes to turnarounds like these, making the most of a soft stretch of your schedule is always key. The 1992 Chargers were one of my favorite teams ever, but it is worth noting that they started to turn things around once they got to start facing the lesser teams on their last-place schedule. To their credit, though, they did it. Their defense tightened with Junior Seau leading the way and their clock-eating offensive gameplan wore their opponents out.
@michaelvandeginste34972 жыл бұрын
@Fries 1995, when the Jags and Panthers joined the league. Before then, each conference had two divisions that contained five teams and one division that contained four teams. A team that finished last in a five-team division would have a schedule the following year that consisted of two games against the other last place team in their conference as well as two more games against the two last place teams from the other conference. The '92 Chargers went 4-0 against those particular teams and 8-0 against losing teams, altogether.
@michaelvandeginste34972 жыл бұрын
@Fries Don't get me wrong. I'm not dissing them. They were my second-favorite team after my home team. I'm merely pointing out why it is so difficult to make the playoffs after a terrible start by mentioning that the schedule broke in their favor and they made the most of it. Other teams like the '91 Broncos, '93 Oilers and '97 49ers did similar things. I was ecstatic when the Chargers made the Super Bowl and crushed when they lost.
@michaelvandeginste34972 жыл бұрын
@Fries yes, the Chargers were plenty capable. They didn't just beat those bad teams, after all; they clobbered them. The '94 team beat and also lost to teams of all calibers. That '94 playoff run also showed their resilience, as they rallied to defeat Dan Marino and the Dolphins and then went into Pittsburgh and stunned the Steelers.

As a Packers fan, the first example that comes to mind is 2016 when the Packers started 4-6 and had lost their last four games in a row. The Packers honestly didn’t look very good and Rodgers was underperforming. Then Rodgers says that he thinks they can run the table and make the playoffs. I’ll be honest I didn’t think the Packers were gonna be able to pull it off, just based off of how poorly they had been playing. Luckily, the Packers would come out and play great for the last 6 games of the season and Rodgers played incredible during that 6-week span. The Packers finished 10-6 and beat the Giants and Cowboys in the playoffs but lost in the Championship game to Atlanta. Due to running the table, 2016 was one of my favorite football seasons.

Im a bears fan, what got me really in to football was the 2018 season. Started off 3-3, (which I know isn’t that bad) but they only lost one game the rest of the season. Eddie Jackson was (and is) so underrated.

as a niners fan, seeing our team hit with QB injury nightmares this season made me just want to write it off as a rebuilding year. But then we traded our entire life savings for CMC and we've won every game since, and Brock Purdy is making a historical NFL debut season despite being our third choice QB. 3-4 to 11-4 and considering our last two games are against two painfully mediocre teams (sorry raiders and cards fans, both of you guys are going through a rough time), we've gone from being wild card hopefuls to clinching top of our division and still having a chance at the number one seed. What's crazy is that this season has been bonkers across the country. You've got the eagles who kind of came out of nowhere to be the best team in the league, and then you've got the vikings who are easily the worst 12-3 team in history (you're probably going to be top of your division with a negative point differential despite the winning record, has that even happened before?). The NFC East is probably gonna have all three wild cards. The titans are imploding, having lost their last 6 games in a row and now the Jags are having a hot streak at the same time. The dolphins are incapable of being anything but a rollercoaster this season as they watch the bills show what happens when you actually have consistency. The bengals are somehow scarier than they were last season while the team they lost to in the super bowl last season forgot how to play football that doesn't involve stafford throwing the ball to kupp. So with all of that in mind, it's no wonder the niners' 8 game winstreak isn't getting too many headlines

The 2006 Tennessee Titans went from 0-5 to 8-7/8-8. They actually beat the Colts this time around. The 2012 Washington Commanders (the Redskins at the time) deserve another mention. This team jumped from 3-6 to 10-6, climbing up a steep latter into the Wildcard round. The 2015 Texans went from 0-2/1-4/2-5 to 9-7. They were the eventual AFC South champions. The 2012 Bengals made a sharp turn after a 3-5 start, playing lights out defense to finish with a 10-6 record. The 2008 San Diego Chargers deserve residence on this list. The 2004 Buffalo Bills are a team nobody mentions anymore.

All you need to know about 2004 Bills is that they needed a win to make playoffs and played against Steelers that had NOTHING to play for since they clinched #1 seed and Bills LOST. So I remember that lol

1996 was an odd season. The upstart Panthers and Jaguars both made it to the Conference Championship game, with the former losing to the juggernaut Packers and the latter losing to the Patriots.

The 1994 Eagles are one not on this list that deserve a mention. 7-2 with Rich Kotite as their coach...then when all the coaches realised they were getting fired despite their start, they fell to 7-9. Randall Cunningham got benched in an effective elimination game. And then Kotite proceeded to send the Jets into hell for two years.

I remember 2018. Flacco was on the hot seat every week and actually out up his best career numbers but the team would do something every week to shoot themselves. Then Tucker misses the extra point after flacco leaves a seemingly game tying drive and suddenly he’s “injured”. Then comes this raw, energetic, passionate and awe inspiring rookie named Lamar Jackson and the team suddenly looked like the old ravens. Started 5-5 and finished 10-6. Even in the playoff game, jackson almost tied the game. That year was special. If harbaugh never let Jackson play his way out of jams, he wouldn’t be the all world player we know today

I think one team to add onto this list is the 2013 Steelers. They started out 0-4 going into their bye week. They finished 8-8, ended the year with a 4 game winning streak and actually came really close to making the playoffs in the final week. They could've got into the playoffs but the Chiefs missed a game winning field goal in their game vs the Chargers. The Chargers went on to win in OT and they got the last playoff spot instead of the Steelers.

As a falcons fan, I must say 2019 was one of the most bizarre years in recent memory: Started the season with an abysmal 1-7 record while allowing 31 PPG Then they came into New Orleans after the bye week and won 26-9, not allowing a single touchdown at the superdome. They then went on to beat the eventual NFC champion 49ers, nearly swept the third seed saints, and had a 6-2 record after the bye week while only allowing 19 PPG. Any falcons fan will remember how wacky that 2019 team was

The 07 Chargers was one of the best turnarounds as well. They started 5-5 coming off a lost to the Vikings where rookie Adrian Peterson broke the record for the most rushing yards in a game. Then they reeled off 8 straight wins and made it all the way to the AFC Championship where they lost to the undefeated Patriots.
