When I was like 7 my parents bought me a betta fish, she was kept in what I can only assume to be a 0.5 gal plastic tank with fake plants and a joke of a filter, that fish lived 4 years, to this day I have no idea how she survived in such conditions especially since she got tail eating parasites like 3 times. Now my only goal in life is to give underappreciated animals the mansions and husbandry they deserve in her honor. rip Blueberry, you were a real one.

3:00 Since you asked: Depending on the health of the fish, it could last a few hours or a few days in freshwater before it succumbs, but it will only swim around normally for a few minutes. The osmotic pressure from the freshwater will begin causing organ failure and cellular disruption after a few minutes, so there will be time to shoot the video, but you can already see how they instantly begin to swim head-up. This is because the first organ to be affected is the swim bladder. Saltwater fish cannot maintain neutral buoyancy in freshwater because the osmotic pressure fills their swim bladder with water. The fish is also losing all its vital nutrients and minerals to the water leeching it away, as it tries to urinate out the excess water from its body, only for it to immediately soak through its tissues again. These fish were not placed in saltwater, and the way they swim and the sudden change in color from being dumped in without even acclimation is... well, they could have died instantly from the shock, but since they didn't they've probably got fifteen to thirty minutes of "normal" panicked stress behavior, before they lay down somewhere to die and only move as required to try to stay alive, and then a few hours later the sweet release of death comes as the cells in their brains rupture.

It's fairly common on the saltwater side to either buy premixed saltwater or mix the salt in a different container. Even if they used the right water though, the more obvious issue with that tank is the stocking. Clownfish should be kept either singly or in mated pairs to avoid aggression.

i would mostly agree. but (probaby by happy accident) since those clowns all appear to be juveniles theyre likely all male. so if they were provided the right environment the dominant one will become female and lord over her harem of males as one big family. the caveat being that, if im wrong and they bought a bunch of mated pairs, it will be like the hunger games in there until only one pair remains... oh and that the filter on that tank stands no chance of keeping up with the feeding requirments of that many clownfish.

I didn't see a filter or any other filtration system. And there's no movement in the water. That also means no oxygenation exchange is happening.

Clownfish must always be kept with a blue tang, also. It’s a rule. Speaking of which, I didn’t know that tangs had venomous spikes on their tails until I saw one at the GA aquarium. They certainly didn’t tell us that in Finding Nemo.

@@labachaterairlandesa That's not really true. I saw so many fish tanks with clown fish but no tangs in. And seriously, who will pay more than 300$ for a tang? There's at least 2 family of clown fish : ocellaris and amphiprion. I'll keep a pair of clown fish in a 33 gallon tank without any tangs because there's no space for them. To be fair, a bunch of saltwater fish are semi aggressive. Though, a lot of people keep clowns with anemone or other corals.

1:32 you can SEE the salinity difference between the tank water and saltwater the fish came with. Those fish will literally swell with water from osmotic pressure, going from 1.026 specific gravity to freshwater. They will survive maybe 15 mins, then start to suffer real bad. You know how hard it is to work at a chain store that sells fish when you know more about fish than everyone there? My manager once told me to sell to this guy who had the intention 9f putting 8 Ryukin Goldfish into a HORSE TROUGH, so they could "eat mosquitoes." No matter what I said, he apparently "did his research." I eventually talked him out of it, since the fish are around $7-$8 a piece, and the promptly threw a basket and cursed at our cashier before leaving.

AVNJ did a good video on the "sweet water aquarium" in japan where they tried to put fresh and saltwater fish in brackish water. In that video he describes what happens when you put saltwater fish in freshwater. my understanding is that they use mineral content and osmosis to regulate the amount of water in their bodies so saltwater fish in freshwater absorb massive amounts of water and turn into balloons.

I've never timed how long it takes them to die in freshwater, but I was doing a FW dip on some tangs once, forgot about them. Came back to them after about 15 minutes (give-or-take) they took some time to recover but they all lived. The person may have also already got the water salinized before adding it to the tank.

I don't eat fast food but I do occasionally order Singapore rice noodles veggie style, I just love the texture of rice noodles. You know what I cannot stand when I'm on a bus, it's when an OAP comes into the bus and the driver doesn't wait for them to find their seat and sit down I'm always at the ready to help, I love our older generation and will always have respect for them and it's ace to talk with Grandma's and Grandas as they have some many interesting stories and knowledge to share 😊 So Chris I have decided what to do with my second hand 55l dennerle which is equivalent to a smidgen under 15 US gallons (this will be a slow project) and that is a pea puffer tank still reading up on them and watching YT vids. Have you ever had pea puffers or have any sort of knowledge about them you can share? My stocking for this tank would be ³FPP, ³khuli loaches and about ¹⁰pygmy corydoras and maybe an oto or 2 and one snail but that is what I would like but isn't a definite because I will have to consider how much space there will be once it has been scaped. Let me know what you think and look up the dimensions of the 55l dennerle and I also have the 70l I haven't finished yet maybe you feel the other may be more suitable? Look forward to hearing from you ✌️➕💚

Qotw: There’s a lot of fast food places I like to go to depending on my mood. I try to not eat out that much though since it’s all super expensive where I live. Arbys is good for their gyros, and there’s plenty of restaurants in my area for chicken and fries, and even tons of sushi shops, so I don’t really have a shortage of places to go. Weekly fish tank updates: There’s good and bad news this time unfortunately. The bad news is that my rescue betta (the one who was in really rough shape when I got him) died sometime while I was on a 3 day vacation. I did a water change the night before I left and fed him right before I left. I also had set up an automatic feeder to make sure he still got fed every night. When I got home he was dead and had looked like he had been dead for a while (leading me to think he had died on the first or second day of my trip) ☹️. I’m not really sure what happened unless he had some sort of underlying (and hidden) disease that he wasn’t really showing physical signs of. I’m probably gonna take a break from bettas for a while because of this. Now for the good news: I was finally able to get the kuhli loaches I was looking for! One has stripes and the other has large spots/stripes. They are very young and at most half the size of Udon. To keep up with the noodle theme, the striped one is named Spaghetti and the spotted one is named Ramen. Spaghetti is a troublemaker and keeps digging up/destroying the newest plant I added to the tank while Ramen just likes to chill. I love watching the three of them shoot around the tank whenever they get excited too!

Yeah, I don't do fast food either it's in knowing where they come from where there are no regulations and how the livestock are treated and mistreated and that a lot of fast food burgers and nuggets chicken/fish or otherwise are made of by-product/by-catch they most undesirable pieces 🤮 but mostly it's how the animals are treated is the main reason. I have no issues with people eating meat but you can get your meat from ethical sources in where the animal is treated well, fed well and killed with respect so to speak but I do think people should be cutting down on red meat because of its direct harm to the planet with the methane that cows produce it's nuts to think that the farming of livestock causes more damage that fossil fuels and all the other pollutants combined but it does because of how much natural forests is flattened to create land for more and more cows it all has an effect. Same with over fishing too.

i’m currently in the process of setting up a tank for my brothers betta, poor guy has been living in some tiny 1 gallon tank with I’m assuming chlorinated water and nothing but some bright blue pebbles covered in filth, mind u my brother is 20 and is a nature photographer, you’d think he’d know better 😭 i’ve never had fish before tho and i’m not quite sure what all he could possibly be suffering from. I’m sure the ammonia was crazy high and he’s never active unless it’s feeding time. if any of u experienced fish ppl know what could be going on with him, would definitely be appreciated. the top of his body also seems to have a weird white line, im not sure if it’s some deficiency or if it’s just his coloring but i feel like it’s probably the former.

We didn't see them add the salt to the water.... It's definitely possible it was premixed. Still overstocked though. As for my favorite fast-food? Hmm...I don't really have one. I do, on occasion, get a hankering for White Castle sliders.
