I mean, look at Jeff Bezos. He obviously deserves some money for creating Amazon, but 144 billion? If someone made $100,000 every hour, eight hours a day, five days a week for 80 years, they STILL wouldn't make as much money as him. Crazy, isn't it? They would have to work almost one *thousand* years in order to get to the same level he's at. That's $100,000 per hour, not per year

I don't think it is. I do think that companies have no idea how out of touch with reality they are. This is an extremely common thing, and at one point this would have worked. People would have seen this and related to it. The problem now is that the internet exposes us to millions of lives of the rich and famous, and people are getting tired of seeing rich people on lavish vacations, eating amazing looking food, wearing the best clothing, having the best time, and then having to look at their lives and see poverty, hungry, and suffering.

the only time ive ever supported a celebrity doing work like this was when dave grohl volunteered at a homeless shelter last year (i think) helping to serve soup. and the reason i think its the best is because literally no one knew he did that until word of mouth spread. he didnt post about it on social media, he didnt take a bunch of photos, and he didnt get some kind of article or headline about it. he just genuinely wanted to make unhoused peoples days a little bit better without making a ruckus about it and trying to say "LOOK HOW GOOD AND IN TOUCH I AM"

Purely altruistic in nature. Love him and more people should be like him. I think that when celebrities promote their own "charities" it's still lame and self serving at the core. There were multiple Australian shows that did this! One where a few influential figures had to live homeless and the other on unemployment payments alongside people who actually live like that. It was harrowing to watch, most of them were breaking down crying after a day or two and seriously questioning how anyone could live like that long term. Really shows that you have to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to actually understand. You cannot make judgements and statements like “just work harder” or “suck it up” unless you’ve actually been in that position. My family was homeless when I was younger and the stuff people said to my parents was vile and disgusting. It makes you realise how majority of people are so privileged they can’t even empathise with situations that are out of peoples control (like the gfc) and instead blame people for “not working hard enough” like that even means anything.

Like, I don't know how the damelios could've posted that and not been aware of the possible backlash, and that makes it even more sinister. I mean, you mentioned it in the video, they prob weighed the possibilities of how the backlash would put it in front of more people's eyes. idk that's just sad. Maybe it's too cynical to think this way, but idk, everything seems so disingenuous, all the time. Everything is a brand, everything is a PR equation, it's just sad.

While that's better than most places I've worked, it's still not the same. Doing something for a few hours knowing you're still making a large salary is not the same as 40-50 hours a week, barely getting by, stretching out to the horizon. Only part i disagree with in this video is saying that Charli just made dancing videos when she clearly stole and copied many of the dance moves being created by POC creators. A lot of what she has said has also rubbed me the wrong way. Apparently, during Halloween horror nights she was about to get on this ride and stepped away last minute because this fan wanted a picture so the worker for the ride had to stop the ramp/door thing from closing and got her neck and shoulder injured because of it, and told Charli’s tour guide while crying out in pain and the tour guide told Charli 15 more seconds with the fan while the worker's neck was being injured from the ramp.

I wish there was a way anyone could help, but it really feels like there's no way out. I'm not here to make you more depressed, nor offer hollow words of support, but if it makes you feel any bit better people are slowly starting to realize they're living to work to live. It may not happen tomorrow or in the next decade, but everyday we get closer to a mental revolution...plus the old farts making sure we suffer just to eat healthier or have basic human needs approach the reaper's blade everyday as well. Sure Ariana Grande works hard, it’s not the same as someone working two jobs to make ends meet or working full time and going to school full time to eventually get a job that affords you the possibility to own a home or have a child. I would argue the working class is still working harder in the grand scheme of work and social life balance. Not having to worry about money is more than half the battle.

this is a great take and an amazing way to give a voice to the real struggles people face. i do, however, think david lettermans example is different. his intention was more of a gesture of appreciation for a place that was a core part of his life than a self serving marketing stunt. I imagine the people of this store were glad to have letterman. he does seem like a wise person that would be aware of the interclass division regarding their place in the work force. I think he could have done a better job for this

Plus Dave has a long history of doing comedy bits are places like Taco Bell that people actually like. I feel like comedians coming in and being silly offends people less. Conan has done similar things multiple times as well and people love him. The employees seems to actually enjoy the levity brought to work. The other stuff doesn't come off the same at all.

I was just priced out of my home town and decided to move to Brooklyn where I had friends and rights (proper healthcare etc) and now I'm working three jobs and barely making money, in tremendous debt, haven't been able to "save" since 2016. These people are so gross to me. Why do we have so many people with more money than they'll ever use, when so many people are struggling and dying? I love you Dev I am so glad I got to see you last week at Market Hotel and that your tickets were affordable, it was such a magical night

Exactly. Also, Trisha is SO nice to the workers that I think her videos are actually beneficial. People with social anxiety around ordering food benefit from that content…pretending to work there for clout does nothing for anyone.

I am very fortunate to have landed a job that pays $18/hour and work 40-45 hours a week. However, I grew up so poor that all my clothes were hand me downs, my food was offbrand “trash” foods, i didn’t get to have anything because we just didn’t have that kind of money. I had to choose between work or school. I wanted to go to school, but i went to work. But i have to pay rent and eat food. I have a very small savings just so i can pay off the loans i got for my trashy ass car to keep running because I can only afford so much and a car is not in my budget at all. This just… feels brutal. It feels like a weird form of bullying. “haha look ag me. A walmart employee. Lmao. Anyways imma drive off in my hundred thousand dollar car and never step foot in a walmart again cause i only shop at high end grocery stores”

I love that you mentioned the Israel problem towards Palestina, I hope it won't bring any stupid hate, as I imagine it would be if someone comes in the comments to condemn Israel without having any real info. People, we need to think about the way we take any info and turning it into opinion, and then start spreading it, so please, if you hope knowing the truth at some point about anything, therefore you should think about how you spread what info in order to take the info you search for

I think it was a joke when you said sbs only plays ed sheeran, but as someone who works at one I can say that recently there has been an entire playlist of just ed sheeran songs. They change out the playlists from month to month, so when I heard like 3 ed sheeran songs in a row (i think in september?) I made a joke that they must have made an ed sheeran playlist just to piss me off... and then I checked what was playing...

dev you are VERY right to say that we already live in a dystopian society. mankind has gone through eras, and this is our final one. i like to think we peaked when ‘Stero Love’ came out in 2010, but it was probably a really long time ago. from here on out, we are going to be seeing the downfall of mankind. humans weren’t built to keep up with the speed that technology is advancing, and one day it’s going to consume us completely. everything about our reality is dystopian. we have access to all the information in the entire world on our pockets. we have the weapons to k*ll thousands of people instantly and the technology for it to be broadcasted all over the world. if you look at AI, technology advanced so much to the point where it has a mind of its own, and it’s just the beginning. the world around us is dying, glaciers are melting, forests are burning, cities are flooding. we have the money and technology to do something about it, but the people with the money don’t care. all we can do is find our own happiness.
