Ryan yr info is extremely insightful! I had watched yr video on ketu and u were the only one who gave a much much better understanding of ketu than any astrologer till date. Astrologers see ketu as a malefic and associated with detachment but u said that it causes confort and attachment which is exactly what ive noticed so thank u for that. And thank u for this . Also i would love if u could so a series on retrograde planets. As ive found astrologers really have different strange opinions about them due to lack of sufficient info on them. Hope u consider doing this. God bless

I may have figured out why venus starves moon. Moon is sattvic and nurturing. It has a giving nature and Moon has no enemies. Venus is rajasic and associated with sensual pleasures. It takes rather than give. Imagine a teenage daughter that wants to go out and party, meet guys and have fun. But she is in the same house with her mother, who only wants to take care of her, feed her, and protect her. So venus being the teenage daughter would feel uncomfortable being open about her adolescent needs in front of her unsuspecting mother, the Moon. Venus's needs are not of a higher realm. Its needs are more of a lower realm. But Moon's needs are of a higher realm, and hence the sattvic nature associated with it. So when venus conjuncts moon or aspects moon, there will be a dilemma in relationships. Do I take care of my lower sensual needs or do I stay through in the relationship, and give and nurture without expecting anything in return?

Stefanie Fernando very nice insight. I had a slightly different take as ultimately venus on a higher evolved level will be interested in being able to love everyone so if a person is evolved and spritual venus will definitely support that and give support to the moon . However the difference btwn moon and venus is, moon is the mother a mother like u said gives unconditional love. Venus on the other hand rules libra and taurus. The balance and stable material desires. Venus loves to give and receive love both but its constantly weighing the scales unconciously and if its off it feels very revengeful and angry. And ofcourse the moon pushes venus to give more than it feels comfortible giving as moons love is unconditional . There forms an internal conflict within an indiviual in these matters as venus will want to give as nuch as they receive and as long as theyre comfy and moon will give give give happily till thier dry much like a mothers love and sacrifice for thier children. If a person chooses to go the venus way the moon forms that guilt, and if the person goes the moon way the person feels resentful that theyre not receiving as much as theyre giving. Its a hard placement. But do remember that moon ends up exalted in taurus venus's sign . So if theres a parivartan yoga with moon and venus and the person is spritaully evolved and learnt the lessons of venus and moon i think they can balance this out beautifully in harmony instead of constantly being in conflict with each other.

Venus needs are not of lower realm. Moon is not always nurturing. Venus is about getting the necessary comforts to go forward in self realization. Bad venus makes one look for lower needs which are not in path of self realization. Moon is just a subject and cant give nurturing. Moon is just there, absorbing all the influences it comes across. Basically, passive entity.

Great lecture, Ryan! I was wondering about what you said about following a certain system of astrology. So astrologers practice with what works for them, is there a way the person requesting a consultation can identify that for themselves as well? For instance, I know for sure all systems of astrology don't work for me. But I am unable to point to the one that does - inspite of numerous consultations with vedic and tropical. Is this 'finding out' purely based on intuition, you think?

+Twistedlogic It is based on experience. Personally, I have found very accurate ways to determine if astrology can actually assist a person, but as for types, I have not found a way to determine that. Although I can usually determine if someone will benefit from Sidereal or Tropical approaches.

You said that no ancient texts mention exaltation etc. of Rahu/Ketu, but if i'm not mistaken Parashara himself mentioned it in ch.47 (effects of dashas), verses 34-39, that scorpio-taurus is exaltation axis, Sag. is mulatrikona for Ketu and Gemini for Rahu. Don't you agree with that ? Also, do you think temporal relationship concept is applicable only in D-1 chart, or in other varga charts as well ?

+skystranger73 Yes, texts do speak of exaltation and DB, I was speaking about the point that not all texts agree on them. I focus on D1 and carry over from there. This could be a video in its self, but mainly it requires to think about what are the vargas. They are NOT astronomical charts like the Rashi. The astronomical positions are what is important for the ideas you mention.

Great talk, very informative! I have a question though: in my own chart I have the ascendant, mercury, rahu and the sun conjunct in Scorpio with the moon conjunct ketu and the descendant in Taurus. The moon starves mercury - friendships - when in opposition (or conjunction), but what I have experienced in my own life are relationships and close friendships which are unbalanced in the sense that they are often all about the other person and my only function in the relationship is to offer unconditional support - emotional, practical, often financial... When I put my foot down and finally say enough is enough, in some cases it has meant the swift termination of the friendship or relationship. Now, my understanding of the principles you've talked about is that as the moon is ego, the moon-mercury opposition should work the other way around, so it's me who's draining the friendship, right? (I might add that what I've described is not just my subjective opinion or feelings, it's something that has been commented upon by family and close friends time & again.) So, is this due to the fact that the moon is in the seventh house, or because it is conjunct ketu, or to other factors - or all three? Mars (ruler of first house, sun, mercury, rahu) is in Cancer in the ninth, so in reasonable dignity, and is a temporary friend to the moon. Venus (ruler of seventh, moon, ketu) is in Libra in its own sign and in the twelfth - and so indicative of losses and expenditures as a result of close relationships - but therefore a temporary friend to the sun and mercury. On the whole, I think my friendships and relationships work pretty well, but, I do have to watch for a tendency to go into orbit around significant people in my life, whether it is a partner or a friend, and it often seems that I'm "there" for everyone else in my life, but when I need help or support it is simply not there. Which is ok, actually, as it means I've developed a lot of resiliance and inner strength....although now I think about it, the stronger I have become, the weaker and needier the people I sometimes attract. Hmmm, that sounds very tied in to rahu-ketu! Sorry for the really long and detailed query! I am new to Vedic astrology, although I have practised "Traditional" (Medieval) Western astrology for some years. I think I need to take some of your classes....!

I agree, Moon Mercury conjunction does make one a bit of giver only. I have this and any time I am the one asking for support the friendships do come to an end. It has been overboard since I am also running a Saturn Mahadasha. May be it has something to do with their opposing nature, like moon being emotional and mercury being a bit garrulous and pompous. I have however, decided to settle into that role now, because even my Saturn is all about letting my work speak for itself. So whoever comes to my door they just receive food, praise and support.

+kaustav007 I don't look at it like that. The third house has its value too. Venus' dignity etc., will tell us how well it will work in that house. Then we have to look at it from the whole chart to see if its in harmony with the rest or not.

1) I was wondering why do we need to memorise the friendship table if the dignity is given in the Kala software? Would we be needing it for something beyond the software, for eg; the temporal friendship stuff? 2) In the Virupas table, we get the intensity a planet is being aspected based on the points. I am assuming that, since this is based on our natal chart, this is something we can physically quantify and have direct experience with. But how about the Jaimini rashi aspects? Would the intensity then be felt subconsciously? ( I know this is a little bit off topic but I was curious.) 3) I think Ernst may have Jup in his 3rd. Hence, the expansive communicative aspect of Jupiter on astrology matters, making him go on and on, on a topic that brings him joy with his peers : )

+Stefanie Fernando 1)It's ok to rely on software, but sometimes someone might tell you where planets are and you don't have your software, then what? Or maybe you are considering transits, because you know where they are, but don't have software to calculate. 2) Remember what we learned this year, the Rashi aspects impact the areas of life as the foundation. They are either OFF or ON. You will experience them. Whether conscious or not, that depends on the individual. 3) Yes, good point.

+Ryan Kurczak 1) Can we use this table for planets in signs? For eg, I found sun in Taurus in the divisional chart. So I assume it was in bad dignity but in the software, it says neutral. Mars in libra is neutral in the table but enemy in the software. Does this have something to do with the temporal friendship coz I'm not familiar with that. 2) I have to do revision.

+Stefanie Fernando Not sure I understand your question about planets in signs. Sun in Taurus is in a natural enemies sign. We do have to take into consideration temporary friendship. Review the part of this video where I mention that.

Very nice! Have a question: What happens if a planet is vargottama? What does it do actually? Is it to be accepted as a planet with good dignity, or what? What if a planet is in an enemy sign ( like in natural neutral+ temporal enemy= enemy), but is vargottama?

For Parasara a planet Vargotama has the same status as a planet in its own sign. Therefore, the state of the enemy planet would be canceled.

stupendous. ..cant get enough ot seems as if astrological studies are evolving at the speed of light, I suspect however that the very nature of the metaphysical sciences will always transcend the laws that govern objective reality, one for instance is not concerned in the arts with establishing proof for the tremendous insights that poetry music and even faith have in our lives, the deepest truths need not correspond to our scientific contructs, the rishis were not scientists but mytholgist......

It's not just your ascendant. Planets with or aspecting the ascendant lord make a difference too. People who don't like me tend to agree I have Saturn and Rahu on the ascendant. ; )
