"I'm not a Mechanic" right up there with "I'm not a Gynecologist but I'll take a look" good job, another source for Silicone oil is Hobby shops, RC cars use it for shocks and diffs.

I’m the same as you. I just did mine. It was making noise. I took it back out. I dismounted the fan and remounted it 90 degrees clockwise. The noise went away. So I recommend marking the fan location also.

Tip for anyone that is going to do this themselves go to a hydraulic shop and most of them will be able to match up an o ring if you dont want to use silicone. Also for what its worth i saw a guy refill his coupling and the correct amount according to him was tip the section that has the thermostatic valve in it upright and fill it with fluid until it reaches the top and overflows a little, that section is basically a reservoir so when it is full thats enough.

Hi mate, enjoying your content and appreciate it. I had heating issues in my 2006 4.2tdi especially when towing. I replaced the factory fan with a G35 Skyline one which bolts straight on and did the viscous hub service. Just be aware the more oil that’s added to the hub the less likely it will give (stop spinning) when hitting water etc. and will act like a locked solid fan. My oil was pretty clean so I just added one bottle to the amount already there. Like you say Toyota supplies these. I also replaced the thermostat with a DT79A which is for a Mazda Tribute AJ from 2004 - 2006. Finally all of the foam sealing that is meant to be between the radiator and the front panelling that directs the air into the radiator was missing. Happens over time from age, river crossings, gerny washing etc. Just contact cemented new closed cell foam strips into where it should go and it will be sorted. I know it sounds like a lot to do but isn't really and won't break the bank. Also the temps are way down now so it works. If you are having heating issues maybe try just one of these suggestions and see if there is a difference. FINALLY like you found out if you are doing the viscous hub service do not remove the large red/orange O-ring. It will not go back in as it expands as stated. Sorry for such a long spiel but if it helps someone then I'm happy.

I recently bought a new fan clutch, as the old one was 30 years old and the Ute was starting to over heat. I thought it deserved one after all that time. It seems to have done the trick, about $100 Aus. On e-Bay. Thanks for the vid.!

Nice video thanks. I've never thought about the fan clutch before but after an expensive ac hose replacement the mechanic suggested the fan clutch as the probable cause of the burst hose. If only I'd seen your video sooner.

Here’s a even better tip, don’t use there oil, you can get a thicker wieght oil, silicone diff oil for rc cars. All the cooling then. Mines like a bloody jet it locks up twice as hard when it’s on full load the fans bassicly locked up to engine rpm 😂🌬🌬🌬💨💨💨💨

MUST READ PSA! Can I just say. My patrol NEVER overheated. Aftermarket turbo, big lift, and towing big boat @110 was fine… I replaced the OEM fan (as it was cracked) with an eBay/online auto parts one. Didn’t drive it for months and now it over heats on highway at 110 empty!? Wtf! THE NEW CHINESE FANS MANUFACTURED POORLY! The 1/3 of the outer blades has a NEGATIVE pitch angle. The inside of the fan is sucking the outside of the fan (where the majority of the blade side) is blowing! Online auto parts have admitted they sold thousands of these. So how many patrols are overheating due to dodgy fans since all the original Nissan ones cracked? When you put Chinese vs OEM fan side by side it’s obvious but only if your looking for it! @5:57 you can see your entire blade is a positive blade angle which is good :)
