I love that the faction with 20% physical resistance and frenzy for core troops, busted OP generic lords, teleportation and instant recruitment can just sit in its spawn for 100 turns and win. Drycha is so immersive if you want to do a magic tree RP campaign

I'll just add a couple random tips here. First off, each tree grants a reputation bonus with a faction near that tree that increases as the forest is restored. The starting one is for Vlad von Carstein. These rep bonuses actually make a pretty hand guide for what a good faction to ally yourself with is. It's also incredibly easy to get literally ANY faction to love you simply by taking settlements from other people, then gifting them to the faction you want to cozy up with. In my starting location as Drycha, as I was taking all the places around the tree, I would just immediately gift them to Vlad. This made him love the fuck out of me so we got an alliance quick, and also made him a lot more powerful having all these places given to him so he was a good ally. You start at war with Ostermark, and then have to go to war with Talabecland and Kislev to seize/destroy all the little forest zones around the tree so it makes a lot of enemies in the area, but Vlad don't give a damn about any of those people and will gladly help fight them off. Not only do the trees have rep bonuses, they also have a unique building that is different for each tree that you can build once the tree is revitalized. You can see what these are by mousing over the little gold landmark icon. Depending on which wood elf faction you are playing, some of these unique buildings can be REALLY good. For example, as Drycha I love going after the one in Cathay as my first (after the starting tree ofc) because the special building there gives you a whopping 30% discount on forest spirit upkeep. If you're playing Drycha or Durthu, this can help your early economy like crazy and let you field more armies faster. Also, as Drycha, you get the option to confederate Durthu fairly early and for me I didn't have to do anything but fight 3 dwarf battles, so I just went to do the slayer dude's capital, he was already at war with me anyway, and I just sacked the settlement 3 turns in a row and boom, done. Once you do that, you can just recruit a Treeman doomstack on durthu and then seize all the settlements of Athel Loren while Drycha can continue handling business elsewhere. Also probably worth mentioning that branch wraiths can improve growth so that helps your tree get along if you want to rush it.

My favorite aspect for Dryads is the Birch. Taking into account that it's a base unit and taking the entity count into consideration, Dryads are very powerful - they have a lot of hitpoints, a lot of armour, borderline-cavalry speed, some resistances, good melee/defense skills and deal a lot of raw damage. Cost for cost, they trample a lot of other base units AND they're very easy for Drycha to recruit en masse anywhere with their global recruitment and forest spirit rosters. Their main weakness is near zero armour piercing damage, so they lose badly against anything that has reasonable armor... and that's where aspect of the Birch breaks this unit. Just this aspect alone increases the Dryad's damage vs armored units by 160%. Between that and other bonuses Drycha and Malevolent Ancient Treemen can bestow upon Dryads, they can increase Dryad's armour-piercing damage per hit from 5 to something around 20, effectively quadrupling their damage output vs armored units. Don't forget Wisdom of the Yew tech so now your unending swarms of Dryads will keep everything around them permanently poisoned. With all of this, Dryads become a powerful, universal mid-range unit, capable of handling tier 2-3 units, that is also spammable in obscene numbers from anywhere using the global recruitment (with one of the outpost buildings) or forest spirit roster. Greenskins WISH they had half the WAAAGH-factor of a Drycha's Dryad spam army

Wood elves are just aids to fight in general, I bring like 3 armies just to auto resolve them, they're so good that the auto resolve bar underestimates them. Not complaining, just don't go into the woods at night, or else you'll be in for a big surprise is the point i'm making

Just starting playing this series a few weeks and just learned this lesson the other day. I saw a bunch of wood elves just hanging out near a one city province and they looked like a treasure chest full of loot to me so I sent my beginner unit full army at them, thinking it'd be decisive. Nope, they fucked me up so bad. Felt like I was back in 'nam

I found that colonizing the ruins southwest of him and selling it off to Durthu after he wipes out the Minor Dwarf Faction west of you at the start is good. It'll piss off the Dwarfs south of you, but Wurrzag and the Carnsteins are a more consistent south and east threat that it's worth it in the long run lol. Does a good job of offsetting Durthu's wrath until Orion starts that wild hunt bs and gets angry.

I got lucky in my Isabella campaign by getting 2 Eternal Flame Banner drops super early and some good RNG in my Raise dead pool to manage to take her out earlier than usual (turn 40ish this time, normally turn 60 or later)

General recommendation really. If you're lord has a melee skill line use it, because you need that ability to hold back either parts of their army or their own lords.

@@Costin_Gaming I disagree you want magic asap with her its the biggest equalizer specially in melee armies where you can corner blob in the woods and wipe out massive armies with pit of shades. Her melee prowess is irrelevant in the long run magic and lighting strike are always the prio. Sure you can get a branchwraith to supplement your casting but they are pretty shit casters and you dont have enough build slots at the start to build the spellsinger building unless you plan on forgoing glade captains, and spellsingers are better off in a treeman's army, to sum it up just pickup her spell line and use her as support melee damage on her isn't important when you are playing a lore of shadows caster.

You can go for shadows since she's got a melee focused army so you can line everyone up for pendulum spam. I usually rush pit of shades playing on very hard just to be safe. And I get a life tree lord. I would go for the red line next for the dryad buffs before the melee line
