In the guard the correct doctrine towards sanctioned psykers is to have a “watch-guard” on duty. He will watch the psyker for any sign of problem. The second the psyker starts to mutter or grow limbs or float or fart lighting, the watch-guard will sound the alarm and unload his power pack into the psyker. The unit will join in opening fire upon the hapless wretch and then a flamer will be brought to blast the body. A ministorum priest will be brought forward to exorcise the ashes and the brave men of the guard can move on, having prevented a rogue psyker.

The City of Sight (and people say that 40k is humorless when that's the name of the place populated by the blind) is functionally a self-contained college setting... I'm fairly certain that the "1000 pyskers a day" atrocity propaganda came from there since they use it as motivator upon student Astropaths (ie either do well or you'll get eaten.)

The God-Emperor is using His power to hold the Webway Portal shut, the Golden Throne was repurposed as a life support system to prevent Himself from dying (He already had that figured out since that was the outcome He chose to resolve the problem of God-Horus a full five years before their fight), & the Adeptus Telepathica Astronomican supplies the power through the God-Emperor since it's unique quality of being Anathema that makes the Astronomican function as a lighthouse cutting through the Warp as Terra orbits. The Adeptus Telepathica Astronomican does chose among the weakest pyskers who can't become Astropaths or Imperial Pyskers, so they are burned out fairly quickly but it's still only a third of a million people a year. They are operated as a 10,000 strong psychic choir that has it's own gestalt consciousness that is who funnels its power through the God-Emperor to keep the Astronomican lit... but they all join willing and sacrifice themselves to do their part in helping humanity. It's a gestalt consciousness, so if too many of it's component parts didn't actually want to sacrifice themselves then it would stop doing what its doing. They are psykers who are trained enough to join the astral choir and do so willingly since they are doing one of the most vital tasks in the Imperium. The Astropaths & Imperial Pyskers in The City of Sight use that as a boogyman story about why the students need to study hard or the "God-Emperor will eat them"... they actually believe it since all the instructors were told that as students themselves for thousands of years. God-Emperor- holds Webway Portal shut Golden Throne- prevents the God-Emperor from dying Adeptus Telepathica Astronomican- 10,000 strong pyschic choir that provides the psychic power to funnel through the God-Emperor to keep the Astronomican lit which burns out about tenth of itself every day needing to be constantly replenished. Hope that breakdown helped you understand things better.

You DID forget three things. First, the way the Imperium keeps its sanctioned psykers - including Astropaths - safe: and that's soul-binding them to the Emperor himself. Their souls are permanently linked to the Master of Mankind in a ritual which sees their very minds reshaped, enhancing their powers and giving them a better (but still not perfect) degree of control over them, at the cost of more often than not burning out one or more of your other, physical senses, like sight or smell. Second, if you're young enough, you could become a Space Marine aspirant. Some chapters, like the Blood Ravens, go out of their way to recruit children with psychic potential. Granted, you need to survive the absolutely horrific trials aspirants are subjected to, as well as gene seed implantation, AND then the even more horrific training Librarian aspirants undergo. But, if you succeed, Space Marine librarians are both some of the strongest, and some of the best trained and safest/most stable psykers in the whole of the Imperium. You just need to survive the battles you will inevitably face, and ultimately you will one day die in battle. Third, is to join the Inquisition. Inquisitors are always in need of people with psykic talent, sanctioned or not. As a member of an Inquisitorial retinue, or even as a full-fledged Inquisitor as is the case of Eisenhorn and Ravenor, you have access to all kinds of mystic knowledge, training, and archeotech which could be used to enhance and/or control your abilities. Of course, you'll be in constant danger from the enemies of Mankind, from rival Inquisitors, and even from your own companions, because some Inquisitors are known to dabble in the demonic, including the creation of Daemonhosts.

Oh! a fun fact relating to Khorne, in the RPGs, you could start out as a psyker, then dedicate yourself to Khorne, and Khorne wouldn't kill you, he'd just make you..not a psyker anymore. Your psychic powers just, stop working! This was specifically in Black Crusade I believe? but yeah that was a thing, and it's what probably would've happened to Kyras had his plan succeeded

Yep, if your character's alignment changes to Khorn they stop being able to perform their witchcraft, but the second their alignment changes from Khorne to some other god or Chaos Undivided their abilities come back. So... stay khorny, I guess.

Now I don't like Khorne's followers, but to be fair, the 'ideal' of Khorne is solid. If you are honorable, respectable and willing to go to anyone "I challenge you!", psyker or not, Khorne will likely at least see you as respectable and reward you as such. Plus, Khorne still needs psykers per se to have his daemons/servents appear, so there is a chance he is just covering his bases. That or he might just kill you because you summoned Slaaneshi/Tzeentch demons because you got the ritual wrong. That is equally possible too.

I've kind of wanted them to go full Gundam and start making psy-battle suits with Gue'vesa pilots. (Mind you, ones who's grandparents grew up under Tau rule.) Have some 'special' gear (probly noctolith/blackstone) that only psychic's can use, or even outright have more performance than otherwise yet possible because the battlesuit's reactor is running on psy power. tapdance on the line between real and super robot with it. Just, give Gue'vesa a unit to represent them in the Tau line up that isn't crappy infantry.

I remember this one bit of art work I found while searching up Tau auxilaries. Somebody made a collection of their own made Gua'vesa unit types/jobs in the Tau empire. One of them was this cool idea for what is bassically a walking psyker stasis/meditation pod. The psyker is put into a trance like state and this makes them very positive, this kinda has the affect of nulifying warp shenanigans around them at all times. It was such a unique idea because instead of just ploping a psyker into the army, they made a very Tau like selution to a problem.

When I do play the Tau, I am just going to have half my army be kroot and have them be psykers because 'they ate one too many thousands sons' and now they can see the future. Not obviously rule applicable for tabletop, but a nice headcanony. I swear the Tau are fucking the neglected empire in 40k when they have the coolest potential for making more Xenos...but no, I guess we have to settle on the big 3. Tau, Vespids and Kroot. The Emperor's plan for the Webway was to use every psyker within it including himself as a ward against Chaos, effectively cutting humanity off entirely from the warp long enough for us to all become alpha-level psykers equal to him while slowly starving Chaos of human thought and emotion. He intended to slowly repair and extend the webway to EVERY imperial world and the Eldar were so afraid of this they started sealing off the webway all over the the place to keep the Emperor from finding them. Why the Eldar didn't attack them to prevent his project, we don't know. It could be that the majority of craftworld eldar saw the expansion and repair project as useful, or they knew it was doomed to failure and decided to distance themselves from it.

Normally I'd say that a boltgun to the face makes psykers safer but sometimes demons crawl out of the bloody stump. The only safe psykers are the good ones with plot armor.

Tbh the obvious answer would be biological and cybenetical enhancement, followed by rigorous training copied from psyker practices that work, followed by... yep, further enhancement. In case of Astronomicon psykers for example the end goal is to raise their endurance above their month tenure thus allowing recovery and rotation of trained members of choir. Even if they take a decade to recover to be able to go on repeat duty, that'll quickly start to accumulate. Main argument I usually mention in 40k that would suit anybody is Right of Clean/Pure Thought. AdMech uses it to purge emotions by replacing half of the brain. Nowhere it dictates that you can't just plop that same cogitator on top of the head or behind the skull thus getting individual with 3 "halves" of a brain. And funny part is, while you can fool both brain and computer, you can't make them hallucinate the same thing in synchronicity. So whenever said individual hears voices or sees something only with one or another, they can just filter it out.

As someone both played a Psyker and went down the Yrliet romance in Owlcat's Rogue Trader, I would be fascinated for a more in-depth story of a human psyker looking into Aeldari culture in order to better master their psyker abilities. For one, this could be a very meditative story on what it means to live Chaos haunting your heels. For two, it means we get more Aeldari content, which is always a win.

A Psyker on the other hand draws his/her power directly from Hell and is a ticking time bomb at best Armaggedon at worst being restricted only to my imagination be damned.

Because no matter how powerful of a psyker you are, this power will attract hungry demons; you cannot drive the damn things away, only hide, but the Emperor, which should be funding the biggest demon feast in the Warp, can SCARE THEM AWAY. Knowing that psykers draw power from the Warp to influence reality, i wonder if doing the inverse is also possible, and if this is what the Emperor does, since when he burned the garden of Nurgle, he said that *"the Warp is not the only realm capable of pushing back."*

As far as I understood, soul stones are also specifically attuned to the soul of the Eldar that's supposed to inhabit it after death, and only very specialized Farseers that do nothing but this know the means by which you take a crystal and attune it into a soul stone this way.

The Perils of The Warp mechanics from the table top game and RPGs are world breaking if used generally. My head canon is that they only apply stressful situations like combat, and a calm focused psyker can avoid them. Also, you forgot to include “soul binding yourself to a daemon that wants worship and services instead of just eating your soul” and “learning sorcery and eventually becoming a daemon prince of chaos undivided” on you list. Both are viable, if dangerous, options.

Depending upon if Hume levels are the level of normalcy, maybe, blanks are meant to stop warp stuff but demons can still possess them, if Hume levels are the level of reality in an area, then no, the warp is a part of reality.

@@chillyavian7718 ok so I’ll explain Hume levels in a layman’s term. Hume levels are a way to determine how real a place is. So a place with extremely low Hume levels is one in which reality doesn’t exist as fully(see red reality) whereas a place with high Hume levels is one in which reality exists in either an enhanced or extremely tangible way. Reality benders are said to have high Hume levels. However if a place has high Hume levels, then it is unstable for different reasons: it’s like putting a bunch of steam in a box. So a Hume stabilizer would stave off the warp given that an increase in warp activity would likely cause an increase in Hume levels

In the book “the eye of terror” it starts off with some psyker who is freaking out because he’s discovered his psyker powers and was taken into captivity. He didn’t want to be killed because he knew his soul would be devoured by daemons and he didn’t want to be alive because of the constant horror of being a psyker. He asked to be put in a drug induced coma forever. Anyways he ended up being brutally murdered a little while later, and the book explicitly said he was eaten by daemons.

Being a servitor isn't nearly as bad as you describe it unless there's a malfunction, and even then we don't really know because they don't speak. What we do know is that Servitors, like Skitarii, can perceive the various canticles and orders they receive as blissful input, even shuddering in ecstasy, according to our army books and the novel "Adeptus Mechanicus." Thus, we have a much better solution than most of those presented here. All knowledge belongs to the Omnissiah anyway, including psykers and their crap, so give them to us. We can make them into useful servitors that can be shot at by, or kill, Necrons. Then we loot all their Blackstone, which in turn makes everyone safer from the warp, as we build everything out of that stuff. You don't have to be a Magos to understand that this chain of reasoning is logical, and what is logical, is divine.

I reckon for Khorne it's not the psyker powers in of themselves that are the problem but rather how you use them. Don't try to avoid combat, don't try to remove your opponent's ability to fight back, don't just fireball or zap someone the moment you have line of sight, use your powers to get into melee and to shield yourself from projectiles and other's psykic attacks, don't let your powers define you, be a warrior who just happens to have powers as a perk.

I'm honestly not sure anymore that I agree with this notion that if Eldrad was 'unblocked' that he would be able to 'toss Magnus around like a ragdoll'. I think the named outlier humans (E, Magnus, Malcador) in psychic potential are likely more powerful than the strongest Aeldari psykers that we know of today, by virtue of being extreme outliers. I suspect an unblocked Eldrad might be comparable to what Magnus can do - but not greater and certainly nowhere near as strong as the Emperor. Blocked, we know Eldrad can only just about go toe-to toe with Ahriman, who we know, despite being monstrously powerful, is still weaker than Magnus. Its not even clear for example that pre-fall Eldar psykers were able to do what the Emperor is currently capable of doing in terms of raw psychic power. Also worth noting that pre fall Aeldari are indicated to have been able to manipulate the stars ('The stars once lived and died at our command') - but Magnus is not far off these feats - he's demonstrated the ability to translate a planet from the Warp to real space (which is a reasonably similar ballpark) and he's only a fraction of Big E's power. Asurmen suggests Eldrad might be representative of what an average pre-fall Eldar psyker could have been like, so yeah, maybe unblocked he matches Magnus, but I'm not even convinced of that anymore.

In the Rogue Trader CRPG, a Dark Eldar Fleshcrafter had access to some strange headgears that when worn nullifies a psykers connection to the warp, completely nullifying their abilities and silencing the voices. Its not even that torturous to endure from a pain point of view. However, it will slowly drain the life out of you and you will waste away eventually from... something. Still, better than being turned into a chaos spawn.

Yes, it works. Servitors are effectively lobotomized. Their prefrontal cortex is cut off from the rest of their brain and used as a processor, which is not as bad as Pancreas makes it sound. Servitors interpret orders from Tech-priests and Magi as beautiful hymns from the angels of the Omnissiah, filling them with joy, much like Skitarii do, but with no free will. The rest of the time, they don't think at all. Well, not usually, anyway. From time to time, neurogenesis (the very slow process of growing new brain cells) will give some servitors a little bit of a link back to the rest of their brain, especially if the servitor is very old and hasn't been maintained. These poor bastards still usually work with a tech-priest around to guide them directly, but if left on their own they can freeze up or develop odd behaviors as their ravaged minds ty to re-assert some form of consciousness. Some servitors can also retain extremely strong impulses form their previous life. One example would be Haldron-44 Stroika, from the book "Adeptus Mechanicus". He was a very capable Skitarii leader and fighter, but he was captured by Chaos, tortured through unspeakable means, and mined for data on Mechanicus strategies and deployments. He was then corrupted to Chaos, twisted into a form of servitor (we think) and turned against his own fleet. His governing Magos eventually recovered him, and wracked with guilt because he was the one who sent Stroika to that fate, converted him into a full servitor; A Kataphron Destroyer, to purify him from the taint of the Warp. For the most part, that worked, but when Stroika faced the Chaos leader that originally tortured him, and ordered to hold fire for a moment, he kept repeating the only word he still knew as he attempted to ignite his plasma culverin: "Execute." Ordered to stand down again, he repeated the word more insistently, and appeared to be trying to engage his drive system to attack the Chaos leader. Thus, it is reasonable to conclude that the Warp no longer controlled him, and the same should be true for any psyker. They need far more neural connections to even show up as a flicker in the Empyrean. Personally, as a disciple of Stygies VIII, which is often maligned for the tek-heresy of our predecessors, I can assure you that their terrible experiments, like turning Eldar or Orks into servitors, have never resulted in a psyker threat. If they had, the Inquisition would never tolerate us, and they have no records of such a calamity ever occurring. Ergo, it is reasonable to assume that the possibility of psykers still attracting, or having the capacity to accept demons, or even generate a gestalt field as Orks do, is non-existent. Only the twisted artifices of Chaos Warpsmiths have ever resulted in such abominable unions, and I know nothing of their methods.

I am a big fan of Warhammer's use and risk of magic (atleast in 40k and Oldhammer, AOS is a different story).
