As always a great video! There is now finally a better way to cross Brixton Hill. Lambeth recently installed a Tucan crossing just a bit south of where you were going. Basically it connects Arodene Road to St Saviour's Road, so it's a small detour, but I think it's worth it.

Yes it’s a good addition! I wish they’d put a cycle crossing at Josephine Avenue, it could have even been on the same circuit. But it’s still useful!

would love to see you do one between south Deptford/New Cross to Camberwell. A short ride with a criminal lack of cycle provision, and few alternative routes, with the north side of the A2/Queens Road blocked by impassable railway lines, and massive hills to the south. Mad that there's no bike lane linking New Cross - Peckham - Camberwell
@Londoncycleroutes3 жыл бұрын
it is really difficult across there! trans-south London routes are so much more difficult than they need to be. I am still seeing what I can come up with though its tricky

Loved the small children crossing, so cute. I really wish I could get on a plane and visit London. It would be great to do these rides. We could do with Melbourne putting in cycling infrastructure like Londons. How great it would be to ride on roads rather than pavements.

I really love the content you produce, it makes me feel so much more confident with the idea of cycling in London. Do you (or anyone else) have any tips on how to follow a predetermined route without having to memorise each turning? Thanks!
@Londoncycleroutes3 жыл бұрын
thank you and yes! I will usually check the route out first on Google Streetview if I've never been there, which makes it easier when you arrive as you have a vague idea of what it looks like. also I tend to write a few lines on a text file on my phone to check names of roads I need to go down or other landmarks to watch out for or whatever. (make sure you pull over safely before looking at it obviously) You can also use an app with maps etc (I always include them in the description of these videos), Komoot is a decent one but others are available

Great route. Thanks for filling in a missing link on this for me (Brockwell park then tulse hill estate to Leander - rather than Brixton Water Lane). But take it from me - only about one in ten drivers will ever stop for you on the Rosendale Road zebra crossing. It’s bad enough on foot - but on a bike? Forget about your right or way I’m afraid. It’s nuts.

Yeah I am going to be more careful in future! I actually reported that driver as I got his face a registration…

Hello! Great content. Just wondering if I could do a request for Greenwich to Holborn? I currently do it through taking the bike through island gardens then going towards CS3, as I think the southern route is the more dangerous path, but I'm curious to see your take on it. Love your stuff and keep it coming!
@Londoncycleroutes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! So I would actually take quietway 1 (see the Greenwich to Kings cross video) and then go north of the river via Blackfriars bridge. Depending where in Holborn you’re going to I’d either go up Blackfriars road and then off left at Shoe Lane or keep following the embankment and go up Savoy Street, Bir Street and Long Acre

These videos are so helpful - thanks very much for making them! I've shared with my colleagues since we all went back to the office and I think your channel has ended up on a few different newsletters! I wonder if you're aware of any good ways of getting from the north side of the Greenwich foot tunnel up to Stratford? My commute is from Ladywell to Stratford and the ride through Dulwich to Greenwich is nice but I'm yet to find a pleasant route through poplar to Stratford other than going up to the Limehouse Cut and along the tow-paths (which always feels a bit unfair on the pedestrians!).
@Londoncycleroutes3 жыл бұрын
Good question - to be honestly that’s probably the way I’d go! TfL have promised to built a cycleway through the isle of dogs for ages because as you’ll know it’s not great at the moment but they’ve not got around to it yet…
@davidwalsh70903 жыл бұрын
You could also take a less direct route up towards Victoria park and then over to Stratford. From foot tunnel follow the Thames path towards the Limehouse basin, get off at three colts street, take Newell street then salmon lane, then onto canal, then mile end park (separate bike path here), leave this on the corner of Roman road/ grove road. Take grove road to Vicky P east to the bridge over A12, rothbury road and that will take you to the Olympic park and into whatever part of Stratford you are going. Simple hey?

These videos have inspired me to try and buy a bike, thanks so much for doing these! Do you think single speed bikes are a good idea for a beginner commuting into central? Generally these routes all seem quite flat, but not sure if giving up gears is worth it
@Londoncycleroutes3 жыл бұрын
That’s very cool! Honestly with regards to which bike I think it’s a matter of taste - i like gears and find them useful but I know people who like single speeds as well. If you’re mostly commuting around say east and central single speed should be fine but you can get some hills as you go south towards say Crystal Palace or when you start to get further north. I’ve personally actually not ever ridden a single speed so it’s hard for me to say!

Problem with the cycle zebra crossings is there isn’t much paint there on the road to catch motorist’s attention. From a pragmatic perspective I mean. Yes motorists should know everything in the Highway Code, but it could be made easier for them. And I say this as a London cyclist!
@Londoncycleroutes3 жыл бұрын
Would be great to make it even more obvious but isn’t it just a just a normal zebra with beliehas and give ways etc but also with an extra bit of paint for the cycle portion?
@timestoad3 жыл бұрын
The stripes just aren’t big enough to make it obvious that it’s a zebra crossing but for cyclists imo. Anyway, thanks for the vid and I’ll make use of the new rosendale road route now, rather than suffering stuck behind a bus on croxted road!
