Regarding the Tau, there is 1 example of a Tau both being seen and possessed by a demon of the warp and of this same Tau using phyker abilities albeit possessed. Farsight specifically has been noticed by Khorne and the water caste Tau who was possessed was noticed by the changer of ways.

Let's first assume that the Emperor being formed from amalgamated souls is at least partially correct. According to various sources, when a follower of one of the Chaos gods dies, their soul is absorbed into the psychic mass of their deity. Big E may not technically be a Chaos god, but He _is_ an amalgamated soul already. Wouldn't it make sense, then, that the souls of humans do literally go to the Emperor, where their psychic power is joined with His? The souls of the faithful _literally_ joining the Emperor and becoming part of Him, granting him ever growing power.

The Emperor is the most powerful mortal and immortal being to have a soul that not even the Ruinous Powers can not even their very being be tempt in taking his. We have seen that many species souls are often compared to that of fires, such as Mankind being compared to candlelight to the Eldar bonfires, but always the the Emperor is compare to a bright and roaring sun. It is true that the Eldar are more powerful individually, but it is Mankind belief to the God-Emperor that allowed them to face the Ruinous Powers and its corrupting influences.

In Storm of Iron the Iron Warriors had a tyranid bioship under their control which had been corrupted by Chaos: specifically by the warp enhanced Obliterator virus. Also, at one point (many editions ago) there were rules for combined genestealer/chaos cults. Lore wise they were predicated on a genestealer patriarch being in a disadvantaged position and resorting to a pact with chaos to gain more power. All of which suggests that while Tyranids are highly resistant to warp corruption, they are not wholly immune.

I don't think that the Emperor actually rushed anything (at least not unduly). Chaos has virtually no power in the material universe, and relies entirely on living beings to help it manifest. It was no threat as long as it stayed on its side. The problem was always that Chaos didn't want to stay on its side and is incredibly insidious. I think the Emperor looked at the Eldar and their fall and understood that humanity would be able to do that and so much worse (hence the prophecy of the Dark King). Humanity, if left to develop naturally, would inevitably fall victim to Chaos, either because their ignorance would allow them to become slowly corrupted, or because their knowledge of Chaos would empower it. Humanity's future was a catch 22. The only option he had left was to force a direct confrontation with Chaos. Stealing their power, creating the primarchs, and launching the Great Crusade seemed to me to be part of that plan. His webway project was not a real threat to Chaos, but a logistical requirement for him to kick off an even more violent version of Old Night without humanity crumbling, and the Imperial Truth was a stopgap. The way that he and Malcador treat the early Imperial Cult points towards no particular animus against faith, if used correctly. I think he probably always intended to become some kind of god, because it would be the only way he could actually deliver a lasting defeat. It's worth pointing out that Chaos told Horus and Lorgar (and probably others) that that was his plan, and lies are always best when they're true. Whatever plan he had probably got derailed when he saw Horus in the primarch lab (book 2, I think) and realized that he had to find the fastest route to power possible.

From the Devastation of Baal related novels, aswell as a few of the recent ones, I would have to say the Tyranid hivesoul is by far the strongest. It's raw focus yet ability to fractalize and compute akin to the Martian Forgemaster when fully plugged into the massive cogitator banks of that planet, is so massive it acts like a Black Hole in the warp. The shadow of it's passing renders the Sea of Souls utterly inert within a radius of one of thier fleets, and thus becoming a giant "dead zone" for all but the most potent of Psychers, like Mephiston. Yet from the Devastation of Baal, we also know that the cataclysmic shockwave of the Great Rift opening up broke through the "gravity well" of several splinter fleets, quite literally frying the synapses and neurons of even the Hive Ships, only having a few stunned Gaunts and couple of individuall command organisms planetside survive the feedback overload, although stunned and unorganized for many days.

Another small thing that supports your conclusion here, is the circumstances surrounding the birth of the youngest "god" or greater warp entity to enter the setting. Barely a few decades old and formed in the comparatively sheltered and tranquil "psychic rockpool" that is Tau space, the goddess T'au'va emerged, not from the will of the Tau, nor even their allies alone, but seemingly strongly stemming from the introduction of a significant Human populace into the Tau Empire. Her visage described to be faceless with blue skin, but with notably human hands and other subtle features, rather than Tau. It seems telling to me, that as soon as humanity settles in a region which had previously been sheltered from and/or overlooked by the ruinous powers of the warp, they almost immediately spawn into being a new psychic power, to fill the power vacuum, aligned with the locally dominant emotions. A comparatively miniscule, but hopeful and ambitious "god", residing over the domain of mutual co-operation and ambition. "I am the communality of species. I am destiny." -T'au'va (From the Black Library novel "The Patient Hunter")

So the emperor is said to have made a deal with the chaos gods and people believe he used that knowledge to make the primarches? Well what if he didn’t actually deal with the chaos gods? What if it was actually the last Old One? It is entirely within the MO of the chaos gods to lie about such a thing. It’d make more sense that he had met the Old One a few times in his life and gave his plan that he wanted to make great entities with warp based natures, but not actual gods. The old one would then help in some way to collect the entities which would become souls and may have even helped refine the entities into souls.

As others have said not all souls are equal. Some burn brighter than others. Eldar on average are more powerful and brighter than humans, but are hampered by the rigorous focus they keep themselves under. Humans are on average weaker with the odd outliers equaling or surpassing the Eldar in shows of power but I would argue that that has more to do with the human cutting loose with everything while the Eldar by training, necessity etc. is still holding themselves back, even if subconsciously. A being like the Emperor or Magnus who were purpose built to be a star compared to a match or candle obviously don't really belong in the measure as they are unique among their kind. Optional wall of text: I love your work good and gentle scribe. The work of your wife, your daughter and yourself are a true pleasure. Rarely a day when I don't listen to one of your videos at least once. Which is why I find no pleasure in saying I strongly disagree with argument for humanity being the root for three of four Chaos Gods or the final option for the Old Ones. I am aware of the old 40K lore placing far too much focus on humanity being the "End all, be all". No better example than Genghis Khan being worthy of Daemon Prince status when the amount of bloodshed he had spilt could be best and quite generously described as "Monday morning". I know old 40K was also what people today would describe as meme heavy or rather as older folks have said comedic satire. I admit freely to not having read all of the BL novels, nor all the codices or White Dwarf mags of the last 30 years. So am by no means a master on the topic. But. From a logic stand point, both in-universe and real world, it does not make sense that one arguably small species out of an untold number of species would be the catalyst for not only one but three Chaos Gods to be manifested. Current population estimates of the Middle Ages was less than a billion humans. Using the premise of an Old One deliberately hampering humanities psychic potential from the get go, the numbers just don't add up. The Tau's Tau'va took the better part of 4000 years with billions to trillions of humans and other psychic capable aliens to manifest. And that was as a single focus point as opposed to relatively unfocused concepts such as violence and change. Nurgle I'd argue is similar to the Greater Good in being a singular focused concept, namely death and disease being a secondary association. Additionally the crux of the point being humanities tendency to explore... perhaps I am a pessimist but I just don't see it when observing humans in the real world. We have an entire solar system to draw resources from yet even now we are far too happy to waste time and limited resources squabbling over one planets worth. Never mind how humanity in the 40K setting actually functions which... sadly somewhere along the lines the satire became reality. We do build, typically just so we can tear something else down. We don't really clean, I give you the large amounts of chemicals and heavy metals that line multiple river systems across the world. Our inability to even engage in an honest discussion on doing better to curb our pollution just to cut down on medical problems, not even touching the "arguable" climate change issue. And all this is without tackling the issue that as was stated in an interview some years ago, what the Black Library writes isn't necessarily actually canon. For example, despite the Night Lords books by ADB being really good, Decimus doesn't exist in canon. At least not yet and probably never going to as indicated by ADB himself. To be clear, we are all just fans of the 40K setting, and I am a huge though financially destitute fan of your work. I love that you are an optimist in your perspective of humanity. I wish I could see humans with that optimism. But to quote TTS Magnus "I see a bunch of squabbling animals." Perhaps it is because I've seen too much of the ugly side of humanity. Though I would argue that I always found the human-centric, inflated sense of our own importance repulsive. We are all welcome to possessing and espousing our own opinions even when they are at odds. Perhaps it is a reaction to the very strong pro-human view that many in the community have. To quote another "You support the Imperium because they are human and our side." Which sadly I believe the BL writers themselves also support. In part of why I regard the BL with deepening distain the more I read the books or catch their interviews. It is also why I like many others argue you are perhaps one of the finest writers for the setting, fan fiction or not. More human focused or not. Your presentation of alien species isn't... glaringly foolish like having Harlequins slaughter their way to the Emperor to engage in diplomacy... I mean what?! I've said the word "today" many many times and when I say it, it's spelled t-o-d-a-y. When you say it, it's spelled T-o-dDd-AaA-YYY or at least that's how it feels.
