My favorite part of the 40k lore is how ambiguous and mysterious it can be. Like systems can be cut off, warp routes lost, even time doesn’t flow right across the Galaxy. Nearly every kind of story is possible, and every rule has their exceptions.

I have not read a lot of books but the dual perspectives in the brutal but kunnin book really stood out. The orks very chaotic but somehow chill, having fun. And the you see from the admech perspective. One passage somehow really stood out for me. The main Ad-Mech "person" we were following is on the frontlines behind a defensive wall wich is breached by the orks. As the orks push through the opening , getting gunned down the orks behind them grab through the wounds of the just shot orks ripping them in half to make way.

One of the reasons i like Ciaphas Cain, is that he is the villain of his own story. Despite being a genuinely good person and a hero. He torments himself over the horrible choices he has had to make, but doesnt count his own heroic deeds.

I love the talk of Necromunda, honestly I feel whatever Henry Cavill is doing with amazon should be about Necromunda and Kal Jericho, get the first look into 40K for people not in the know about the micro level, and slowly sneak in the macro level of the setting like its a cosmic horror, much like Kal did with that one off Necron Titan.

1:01:00 The Tau are at their best when they're just the good guys. No brainwashing, no forced sterilization, no "guess its time to grow out of my youthful hope and into a cynical adult", just the good guys. There is nothing more grimdark than a good guy who is desperately fighting to do the right thing when everyone around them, themselves, and you the reader, all know they will fail. A good guy continuing to be a good guy in the face of turbo-sadism at every turn is peak grimdark. It even lets you keep the Farsight rebellion, cause the ethereals can say "If we told you that at a moments notice satan could just show up to your home and kick you in the dick so hard you explode into gibs, do you honestly think people would keep working their jobs and not panic?". My headcanon is the Tau ARE the good guys and everything bad about them is just Imperial propaganda to stop people from leaving and joining them.

I love the podcast, so don't act like I'm in the wrong place when I say space marines are f-ing lame. They're the least interesting part of 40k to me and nearly single-handedly kept me away from the hobby for years until I met someone who told me about some of the non-space marine lore. Seriously I couldn't have given less of a crap about the homebrew lore I heard about my friend's space marine chapter. I'm not saying everything about them is lame. Ive read enough books to appreciate the good parts, but I'd gladly trade every space marine centered book for stories like Day of Ascension, The Infinite and the Divine, any of the Ork books, etc. Problem is, I just listed a non-trivial portion of the xeno books.
