When we think of powerful and explosive athletes, what often comes to mind are Olympic weightlifters, sprinters, or NFL players. And with good reason. But one very underrated category of athletes that does not get the recognition they deserve are the track and field throwers, which include the shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, and javelin throw. Those might very well be among the most powerful athletes on the planet. And we will explore why in this video.

Admittedly, I was always very quick and explosive. I was 5' 8 3/4 " and I could dunk once in a while and I never lifted weights as a young man. When I was 38, I had been doing heavy dead lifts and power cleans. I was messing around with some friends I used to play basketball with and I was almost dunking, clanging it off the top of the rim. I hadn't jumped like that in over a decade. It was definitely form those lifts and I imagine mainly form the power cleans. I often think If I had been doing those lifts as a young man I would have been doing Tomahawk dunks!

Better would fit for boxing the sprinters. Velocity is more important than the force for ko hittings. Best example, former olymic shot putter olympic champion Bill Nieder (olympic champion 1960 and also former world record holder) tried boxing after 1960 and he gets ko in his first or seound fight against a middle class boxer. I would bet, also the todays shott putter would have no chance to be a good boxer.

They are easily one of the most if not most. NFL athletes are some of the fastest athletes over short distance at their weight. Not to mention having to be strong and powerful is a major requirement for a lot of positions. There's a 6'6 330lbs defensive lineman who ran a 4.78 40 yard dash and had a 38 inch vertical at the NFL combine last year. 2 athletes around similar size have had the same speed this year's combine.

Without watching the video, you have the usual bait title which is just plain inaccurate. You realize power is an engineering, physical quantity that can be measured. Yes, throwers are top tier but there's no way they are THE most powerful athlete. Take NFL Linemen and especially superheavy weightlifters and hook them up to a machine, I guarantee they'll put up higher numbers
