The science of sports is vastly diffuse and quantifying all of the variables can be of extreme difficulty.
And that is for the simple fact that it involves humans, which come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds.
Due to this variability and diffuseness, rationalizations to suit agendas, as well as confusing cause and effect, will be very evident. Either as a means of confirmation bias or to generate traction.
And one of those confusions that has been floating around in the world of competitive sports, especially those with somewhat traditionalistic mindsets as commonly evident in combat sports, is the following:
‘’Weight training makes you stiff.’’
In this video, we will explore whether this holds truth or not.

Remember flex was doing martial arts first before bodybuilding.

Muscles are meant to move, not statically enter a position that they're not strong in. Being strong in a deep hamstring stretch (IE an RDL or good morning) is far more "functional" than just being able to enter that position. When a life or death situation, or in a sport, would you need to be able to statically stretch super deep and hold that position for a long period of time without any additional loading? On the other hand, a loaded stretch is absolutely super useful, because you're strong in extreme positions that you can be forced into by the unpredictable demands of a sport or a real life situation. You won't snap up, you might even be able to rebound against whatever force (be it a heavy log, or another person, or whatever else) you may need to

As someone who's currently getting their kinesiology degree, I think machines should only be used when there's a huge stability issue like injury and rehabilitation. Healthy athletic individuals should prioritize free weights and not a machine on an unrealistic fixed plane of motion.

@@kainickname I personally don't see how there would be a problem unless your flexibility training is leading to instability of the joint capsule. To be honest though I need to look more into this subject.

Weight lifting makes you stiffer if you dont train your flexibility and mobility ... This is from my personnal experience

You surely changed my mind But i still think that bodybuilders are more likely to be stiff and slow because there sport does not require a lot of moving , and i think that our body is not supposed to have big muscles that makes it harder to do our daily movements in life

Hello sir , Can you please make a video and give thoughts of your in sports karate (kumite) World karate federation I am a amateur player from India and wanted to excel in this sport .16 yrs old right now , If you help with strength and conditioning specific stuff it would be great because this sport is quite different from mma,boxing etc. It is a semi contact sport. 🙏🙏🙏

Like the video said "you are what you train for". Start training athletic and explosive (plyometrics, ballistic training, etc). Remember power = force x speed, so don't waste time grinding out 1 rep maxes.

Both is true, you'll get a lot of flexibility from weight training because you go to full range of motion, and for example for a bodybuilder an empasis on the stretch, yet very few movements demanda a full range of motion hamstring and groin stretch.. only the contraction of this musscles are requaired, simultainusly contractiont of the muscle is also the bigest opsticle to flexibility as when you stretch you often involitary contract the muscle and this gets in the way of the stretch especially when it comes to the hamstring and groin, so simply by having more musscle mass that is primed for an maximal contraction you now have a lot more force working against your stretching out of this muscle, the same can allso make more fluid movements requiring not only flexibility but mobility more akward.. which is why martial artists have been against weight training. get me right i love weight training and martial arts and i think weight training is good for martial arts, but if you are a martial artist how much and what movements should be evaluated.. to much will be bad for your martial art right amount will make you a lot stronger as a martial artist.

What is the "diet" protocol to avoid stiffness? Every guy you referenced was on gear... People lose range of motion when they get sore/adapt. 95% of heavily muscled people have less flexibility than skinny people.

First off you pulled that statistic out of your ass, and second off he said to diet to remain in your weight class is weight gain from hypertrophy is a problem. You should rewatch the video because you missed the point.

@@nicholascalin5396 1st: It 's called common sense when 90% of something occurs consistently. 2nd the title says Myth debunk, lifting makes you stiff... 3rd. Extreme hypertrophy training will lead to reduced range of motion because lengthening sore muscles for a max stretch with micro tears in them will not end well.

Gear doesn't increase your flexibility as far as I'm aware, at least not the kind that you see bodybuilders taking. In any case, that only serves to prove the author's point even more.
