Here i test out the new mk11 jsb ko slugs through a couple of field target air rifles, my XTi50 and Anschutz 9015 both sub 12 .177 calibre
i also test them in the airmaks katran, alongside some zan slugs aswell
they have a very unusual shape and make a lot more power than previous slugs ive tested on the channel, they are only around 20 fps slower than a jsb heavy so must be pretty efficient and make good power
the scopes are the optisan cp and the huge discovery ed prs 5-25x56
they are surprisingly accurate especially as none of the rifles are optimised for slug ammo
in the future i will prepare a couple of new barrel blanks to suit the slugs,these show some real potential!
the zan slugs still prove to be particularly accurate in the sub12 rifles.

Love your ongoing research into slugs on sub 12ft rifles Pete. I've been doing exactly the same and have had my best results with the ZANs. Of my .177 PCP rifles I've actually found the 13 grain slugs performed better than the 10grains. I think this is because they are slightly longer and therefore load straighter into the barrel. Just trying the lighter lead free ones at the moment which also surprisingly seem to be working well. I need to get some JSBs to try now by your results. Keep up the good work 👍

It's all a bit of a learning curve really, the pb free zans were hopeless in the 9015. Yeah when we are limited to power and in the smaller calibre it's absolutely critical they are a perfect barrel fit😉

Interesting to see quite good groups considering the relatively low velocity. I'm shooting H&N, ZAN and JSB slugs in fac but only finding JSB are accurate in my barrel, with the MK1's being best of all.

worth noting the new jsb are 4.49 head size so should work better through the choke of the barrel. but my katran in .177 prefers 4.52 head sizes lol havent tried any slugs in the .22 katran yet but it isnt bad with hades

I only shoot .22 and .25, in only rifled barrels and usually at higher velocities of 800fps to 1000fps, but find a World of difference between unchoked and choked barrels (various makes, usually LW). In choked barrels I consistently find JSB pellets best but in unchoked barrels the Zan slugs (even modified version 2's) are unsurpassed. I suspect many pellets/slugs are designed and modified for FX barrels and that those shooting rifled barrels just have to make the most of what comes.

I've got a Steyr FT110 Sub 12ft/lbs. The stainless steel barrel has to be kept lead free or it will not group. Every 200 - 300 pellets it needs a thorough cleaning to remove the lead or accuracy suffers.
@tillysgunstocks
@tillysgunstocks Жыл бұрын
Yep it's quite common with the steyrs, you need to establish and stick with a decent cleaning regime with the majority. Loads on the hft/ft circuit end up having walther barrels fitted for an easier time.

@@tillysgunstocks I don't mind the maintenance. At first I thought it was the rifle. 2 tins in. I couldn't hit a barn door. To remove the me factor. I put it in a gun vice and it shot a 50mm group at 25 yrds! After cleaning. It shot a 5mm group at 25yrds. I don't remember ever cleaning my Daystate CRX or Daystate 2000 barrels.

@@tillysgunstocks Hey Tommy, Bionic Rusty just informed me of another function on the video; captions. Please disregard my request. I need to start trying to relearn English again. My parents are originally from Taiwan. Though I was born in the US, my first three languages were Taiwanese, Hakka, and Japanese. I learned English as a youngster but then moved back to Asia in my 20s and have pretty much stayed here for the last almost 30 years. Believe it or not, it's quite easy to forget English when you don't speak it regularly. Google Translate helps a lot though. But American English sounds very different than Proper King's English. My written English is much better than my verbal skills. My ears and my brain are not yet in sync. Where in UK are you from? There are three or four other UK airgun content creators and you all have very different accents. Andy(Andy's Airgun Reviews) sounds most clear. But I think he makes a point to annunciate and pause between words for effect. Drew (Weaponized Hippie) is so relaxed and his tempo is even. Then there's Giles from Airgun Gear Show. He is a bit more excitable and uneven tempo and uneven pitch but he usually speaks slow enough for me to understand. Thanks again for your excellent videos. Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.

@MDM1992

Because no 2 barrels are ever the same, even from the same manufacturer, some are choked, some are not, some are hammer forged like bsa's and rifling can be different from barrel to barrel due to rifling tools wearing, or different rifling tools being used, so you need to find which pellet and weight works best for your particular barrel. Then theres inconsistencies with pellet batches, pellet weights in the tin varying slightly which makes a difference, theres also your rifles power setting, some (a lot in fact) pellets are far more accurate when the rifle is tuned down ever so slightly, half a ft lb of energy at the muzzle can be the difference between one hole groups and opening up to a point you cant trust them. There are so many variables and only A LOT of rangetime and getting to know your equipment and what works best for it can iron out the kinks, if you find something your gun likes, stock up on that and use nothing else, don't get hung up on using fancy hunting pellets for more damage etc since any pellet will kill, accuracy is all that matters, ive been both target shooting and hunting with jsb heavy diabolos for years and they'll kill anything ill take aim at, before that in another rifle bsa elites were the best and took plenty of rabbit, pigeon, duck and pheasant out to 70 yards in ideal conditions. People over think it too much just find what your gun likes and stick to it.
@sahhull
@sahhull Жыл бұрын
It's even worse. You can get 2 rifles from the same manufacturer. One will group with brand A pellet, the other won't. That's why your own testing is important.
