You know I have to wonder what the Assassin that killed the Archduke thought when they realized that what they did started a world war. Do you think the person would have stopped themselves from shooting if they knew what would happen next or continued on, not caring.

I think they actually did ask him, Gavrilo Princip, either after the war ended or the middle of it, dont remember. He said that his only regret was killing the archduke's wife.

The war probably would have happened eventually anyway. All major powers in europe were making plans for war actions way before it even began. And there already was an arms race and crisis in summer 1914. So the assasination was only the last provocation needed for Austro-Hungary to declare war on Serbia. Russia takes the side of Serbia and therefore Germany sides with Austro-Hungary. Its more the network of treaties, which came to effect that so many countries joined in. Driven by a feeling of superiority in war on all sides.

@@RammmFani unfortunately but respectfully have to disagree disagree. Qin Shi Huangs dreams died in vain. he said his rule would reign for 10,000 generations...his empire, upon his death, crumbled in only 15 years after. i would say he died in vain he made a declaration upon his death his rule would still be there 10,000 later, and yet that dream was never realized. no rulers reign has ever last more than a few hundred generations at most, and that's being INCREDIBLY generous. so, with that in mind, how can you say that his death, natural or otherwise, wasn't in vain?
