Relax y'all. This song is from a country in an era when there were absolutely no black people in that country and its inhabitants would only see them in National Geographic documentaries about Africa and foreign sport events. The word used in the song is NOT equivalent to the N word. In fact it comes from the word Arab and became derogatory long after that movie was made. Also it is still perfectly OK to use it as a joke to emphasize its racist connotations and ridicule the subtle ignorant racism of the era it was coined. There was another parody song that used it by Sakis Boulas titled "Why did you treat me as if I was an Arapis" which is hilarious, its singer was left leaning and anything but racist and everybody knows that he used the word ironically. Dont judge other cultures and other eras by your own culture's and era's taboos.

@theo99522 жыл бұрын
Ι don't recall the name of this mid sixties Greek comedy, but it had nothing to do with this song or with racist attitudes. There were many comedies of this type and they all more or less featured light popular "bouzouki songs", which were the equivalent of video clips and a way to advertise and sell records. The songs almost always were about love affairs, unlike this one which is a very goofy number really. More plain ridiculous and less racist, in my opinion.
@theo99522 жыл бұрын
Mid sixties comedy movie, I can't find the title. The title of the song is "o arapis" (the "coon"). Greek comedies of those times , even when played abroad, were intended for Greek speaking audience and they were not even subtitled in any other language, so nobody would bother to sensor or ban them.

And,what do you think of Israel now declaring war against Syria? And the commotion of the Houthi rebels in the Bab-el Madden straight? These couple of issues are going to have a serious affect on your country. Might make you rich, might bring you into a economic recession. Maybe even drag you into a new war.

As a greek I confirm that the subtitles are legit. Translation in English does make the (already racist) lyrics sound even worse (literal translation instead of trying to find equivalent words). I'd like to believe that we've come a long way in the last decades, like the rest of the world (this song is 58 years old). Back then this song didn't even trigger as racist, they were different times.
