Welcome to my favorite backrooms game ever made: The Complex Found Footage. No backrooms horror game has truly managed to capture the fear and uneasiness that liminal spaces represent.
This is the first game that truly made me uneasy and scared without being a jumpscare heavy backrooms game. I really hope you enjoy!

The other backrooms games are quickly becoming a bunch of run of the mill "there's a scary monster chasing you" games. This was the first one I've seen, that really *nailed* the whole "liminal space" feel. Super unsetteling, no jumpscares, 100% just atmosphere. That was awesome!

Unpopular opinion, but I feel like backrooms are better without too much entities. Like one or two is fine, but nowadays it's just too much known information about them. The OG Backrooms creepypasta was great because it ends with "if something wandering around nearby", which gives it mysterious feeling. Like you're not supposed to know how the entity looks like. If you do, you're already dead. The OG story uses fear of being stuck in an unknown space forever rather than being chased by a monster. Trust me, if I have to choose between being stuck in the backrooms with no social interaction whatsoever until I die a lonely death or getting killed by a monster, I would 100% choose the latter. If backrooms were real, I'd chase the monster to kindly ask it to just kill me instead. Though I appreciate the different kinds of rooms being added regularly, but the fact that it's becoming SCP-like kinda ruins it for me. Every information about the backrooms are documented that it's not about fear of the unknown anymore. It's just "ooo scary room with scary monster.. you see monster you ded" over and over again. Other backrooms games are also becoming generic "run from monster" horror games that happens to have the backrooms as their map. This game feels refreshing. It doesn't rely on a monster chasing you to evoke fear, yet it's still managed to be creepy and unsettling. Backrooms is one of the coolest creations ever made in modern horror that sadly got overshadowed by basic monsters. This game lets the backrooms shine, like the backrooms itself is the main antagonist. Absolutely fantastic game!

To answer Insym on why Walmart and possibly many other stores have high ceilings, it’s mostly because of convection cooling, convection is when hot air is replaced with cooled air. A general rule of thumb that I’ve learnt during my Physics class is, hot air goes up, and cold air goes down, of course air is air, but that’s how it normally goes, and of course they have fans to ventilate out the hot air, but that’s generally why they have large ceilings, it’s because of convection cooling, Sorry for being a nerd 🤓

Something that was eerie to me about this game is when you go to down the second elevator, in the the room with soft carpet and the white floor where you said is there mirrors, if you walked along the very left wall there is a laptop charging cord plugged in. Considering the year the footage was supposedly recorded, the laptop charger shouldn’t be there…. But it’s there in the back rooms. Almost as if the backrooms are connected to both the past and the future

I learned a while ago that the three prime colours are different depending on what you look at. If you look at a painting it would be Red, Blue and Yellow. If you are looking at lights it's Red, Blue and Green. A printer uses Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Don't ask me why, it just works.
@ximorro5247
@ximorro5247 2 жыл бұрын
It's because when using light you form color by adding (red+blue+green=white). When printing you subtract colors (cyan+magenta+yellow=black), this happens because the mixture absorbs more light frequencies , so you see less colors because less is reflected. When using light it's directly emitting those light frequencies, so you add them in order to see more color (white is all the visible colors at the same time and black is no color)

Here are a few games you might enjoy: Aka Manto (I think it's a chilla's art game), Little Misfortune (Story-driven but it has a somewhat unique story and artstyle), Duck Season (A VR horror based on the classic game Duck Hunt), JR's (A game based on a restaurant seen in one of the lore sequences of FNAF Pizzeria Simulator), And of course FNAF VR DLC (Unless of course you're saving it for Halloween since it's quite Halloween-themed). I kinda feel like the odd one out, not finding the backrooms concept all that scary. People get upset when games add monsters or objectives, but to me, without that, it's rather boring. I don't enjoy walking simulators, im 3/4s of the way through the video and I feel like that's going to be all it is. A scare or monster at the end would also not be rewarding for such a long trek either if that was to happen. The atmosphere is great in this game, but I don't find the appeal to actually play it and it lacks any suspense. It may very well just be me and this kind of content is not for me.

this game is a lot of walky walky no scary, and i think that people like me like the backrooms concept because it combines the fear of the unknown (the backrooms being the unknown place) and the fear of being watched (like its so ominous and you feel like something is following your every move, waiting for the right time to strike). in a good backrooms game you get more and more tense for every turn that you take, since you don't know the place and you feel like it's so big that there must be something else in it with you, you're certain that you'll stumble on it eventually and it's just a matter of how many more hallways you'll go through. sadly this game can't get those two right, the video and audio design is really good and they could've used the running sound better to make you hallucinate stuff around you, or at the very least they should've made the monster appear more frequently, but i guess that sometimes you can't have everything at once
@TrickstyrStudio
@TrickstyrStudio 2 жыл бұрын
@@red-vg2ds Yes! I agree with this. I feel like the sound design and visuals of the game are good, but there is a severe lack of uncertainty, fear, sense of uneasiness. I am not sure how they could have made it better honestly, there was a moment where you saw what could have been a monster, but you saw it once and never again. There was never a sense of urgency, no sense of a threat. I would have probably liked it more if you saw the potential monster a few more times. Maybe never outright, just out of the corner of your eye or moving behind a wall. But once just didn't cut it for me.

@@TrickstyrStudio Maybe just a nitpick on your comment but it did appear a second time in the video, and it's possible that he even missed places where it could appear because of the way he went through it (I don't know, as I haven't played or watched any other footage). That said, I do agree somewhat and was a little disappointed when it ended with no threat ever emerging.
@TrickstyrStudio
@TrickstyrStudio 2 жыл бұрын
@@aeoniangears372 If it is possible to show up more than once, maybe even several times in each floor with varying levels of probability, I would be more willing to give the game a pass. But with how the game is structure, fixed 'jump scares' doesn't really work when it can't be predicted what route the player will go. In some of the levels it would be fine where the level is mostly a straight path. But the bigger levels have so much variation that you can't really plan for the player to go to or even be facing the direction of a jumpscare. I know making jumpscares happen based on player location may be more difficult, but if the intention is to have you see glimpses of the monster, it may be required. If not, then a monster shouldn't be added to begin with imo. Other than that I can still say it's a good game in regards to visual and sound design, even if the motion blur was nauseating. But I feel like there was simply a lack of threat, whether real or implied. It was just a walking simulator.

The way this game preserved and build up an extreme pressure over the whole playthrough, is just wow, the tension towards the end could be cut with a knife. That knock at elevator door at 34:21 and then slowly opening doors on unknown floor, probably where it peaked in terms of the threat being as close to the player, as possible. I was so expecting for something to jump out of the darkness. Definitely one of the best Backrooms experiences out there, it has such a nice mysterious and nostalgic art-style, and those rumbling, even breathing-like, weird sounds on each floor are so well made, that once they're being suddenly removed - the silence is extremely uncomfortable and ear-piercing. No need for actual monsters or jumpscares, the developer understands so well what factors scare people and sheer fear comes from the builded up tension. Even by breaking up watching the playthrough and having pauses here and there - that uncomfortable feeling didn't go away. This game never gave any tension relief, always keeping on the endge, which is absolutely amazing. Best Backrooms game to come back to, truly beautiful. It's always lovely to see you exploring environment, halls and narrow passages, not just running through floor as quick, as possible. And the game always rewards this curiosity by showing something completely weird, but awesome in that regard ❤❤

Hey, you mentioned the tall ceilings in retailers in America. The main reason why we do that over here is that it actually saves money when it comes to lighting and temperature control. It costs a little more in building materials but over time, the savings add up.

Wouldn't it be more difficult to keep it warm in the winter, because all the heat rises to the ceiling?

Can someone please tell me how to use the flashlight? I have been looking in steam for answers, there is none, I’ve been googling, asking Reddit. Nobody will tell me how to use the flashlight. I’ve pressed all my buttons. No flashlight. I looked on the game and it never tells you how to use the flashlight. I cannot tell you how much I am confused, why is it so hidden, like a cryptid?

This type of horror is just so smart. The creator of this game truly understands what makes these scenes eerie… it’s just placing things where they never should be. Like having that “scary chair” in the short, dead-end hallway. There is literally 0 reason to have a dead-end hallway there, and even less reason to want a chair in it. It makes you uncomfortable because you feel like you’re missing something… and then when you already have the looming threat of some entity hunting you down, your brain fills in the blanks with the worst options. It’s just so cool to see psychology utilized so well for entertainment.
