One of her titles "she wolf" could be translated as Wilczyca Stepowa/Kresowa. Which is conencted with womens of Cossacks, outlaw noblemans and other hajduks (bandtis). They were as cruel as the 17th century Ruthenia and Ukraine used to be in general. They were raiding churches, other noblemans properties and caravans. Very often fighting with kind of bounty hunters like Dydyńscy brothers, Tatars, Commonwealth army or private armies of noblemans. We even have a word for armed robber on city/village of one nobleman by the band of other and It's called "zajazd".

Fun fact, it is actually because walking around with a shield would make you look like you wanted to get into fights, while having just a sword was more acceptable. In civil and judicial duels shields were very frowned upon and usually not allowed unless agreed upon beforehand.

Yep, and she's absurdly overpowered lol. She's very hard to hit, the shield almost constantly covers her. She often uses it to deflect your weapon and then cut at the exact same time. @plebeian36712 ай бұрын
@@danielflanard8274 nope, not banned from tourneys, the way to beat her is that you simply can not fight her like you would any other character, essentially forget ripostes, time her attack with yours or block 1 or 2 attacks and grapple/push/punch/kick her or riposte with side attacks to get around her shield. It's definitely doable but as someone who likes fighting with swords in a sword fighting game, it's very annoying to be forced to use grapple (though side combos do work if your character has decent side combos facing her left hand)

Well, actually, Cossacks are not just horsemen. They are a social group of free peasants, who must pay for the right to use the land with a military service. In Russian Empire Cossacks typically lived close to borders and acted as border guard, as well as a highly mobile units, that can be mustered up in times of war very quickly. Basically, peasants, who know how to use arms and have weapons at their homes.
@yaroslavnedzelskyi81173 ай бұрын
@@theodortemplar2881 To be highly mobile one requires to be a light cavalryman. In moscovite empire? Yes, they were peasants. They were stripped off all their rights. But in the times prior to occupation of Ruthenia (a.k.a. Ukraine - Ruthenia is the original name of the land, just as Ruthenians is the original ethnonym of Ukrainians) by the moscovites, during the period of the Commonwealth, they had the status of shlyachta (a.k.a. minor nobility), at least the registered ones - no matter if they owned private land or estates, or none at all
@theodortemplar28813 ай бұрын
@@yaroslavnedzelskyi8117 I never said that they WEREN'T cavalrymen. Just pointed the fact, that Cossacks were way more then just a light cavalry unit from some RTS game. Everyone seem to be treating Cossacks like if they were just "Eastern European skins for lancers". Idk if in Ruthenia Cossacks were considered nobles, but in Tsardom of Moscow (as well as in Russian Empire later) they were distinguished from serfs and had their own duties and privileges. Unlike average peasants, who were indeed stripped of all their rights, Cossacks didn't had to pay tribute to feudals and couldn't have their land taken from them. And in return, they had a duty to protect the country from raiders and invading enemies, as well as go to war when king summons them, and bring their own equipment, weapons and horses with them, unlike peasant militia, who must be supplied by the feudal. And by "highly mobile" I mostly meant that they can be gathered and sent to war quickly, unlike peasant militia, who must be trained and equipped first.
@vorynrosethorn9032 ай бұрын
Most actually peasant militia in Russia served in logistics or manual labour such as the construction of fortifications or the maintenance of roads. The peasant militias referred to in older Soviet sources were military serfs, they usually came out of impoverished gentry who bond their military skill to a patron in return for land or upkeep (monastic lands in particular had large military potential in the form of this type of serf). The times of troubles were particularly bad because many of these people were abandoned during the famines and turned into roving bands or the leadership caste of bandits, many joined the cossacks. The Cossacks were off in the wildlands, and despite attempts to control them they tended to be rather difficult. They would later become a social estate proudly upholding their traditions and privileges by acting as colonizers who could protect the borders themselves. They had a lot in common with the Turkic nomads culturally, but were ethnically Slavic (in spite of quite a bit of involuntary intermixing due to them turning the practice of bride catching back round on many local groups in the steppe), and religiously Orthodox (which to a greater or lesser extent meant that they had Orthodox political attitudes, they were monarchist and of mixed attitudes to the social order from the start, they merely wanted it to favour them. As has been pointed out by recent historical research the depiction of the time of troubles as being a time of populist revolution is wrong. It was a struggle between members of the Nobility, Gentry and military servants/serfs (who as said were essentially bonded gentry), as well as the Cossacks, Polish and the Orthodox Church (who were key in the ideological perceptions of the conflicts, and intervened to end the period of instability, resulting in the ejection of the Polish and the election of the Romanovs). The early rebellions were a natural result of wider social problems (notably mass famine and economic disaster) with the loss of central legitimacy with the end of the dynasty conceived of in religious terms as the chosen of God, the miraculous survival of the heir to that dynasty led to the consolidation of marginalised local elites around that figure (notably serfs in the peasant sense took no active political role, and practically no military one), though over time wider conflicts between states, church's and noble houses came into play. It ended with the assertion of religious authority by the Church over the military classes and the election of an inoffensive candidate (a 16 year old boy, both of the highest social standing but also with links to the rebel faction, and indeed who's father would later serve as patriarch during his reign) and a reorientation to focus on the external threats who had only been emboldened in the interim.
@LightPresident951482 ай бұрын
I would say that because actually all the characters don't exactly look like they're fighting on a battlefield, but more like they'd find themselves in a fight in a bar. So it makes sense that you rarely come across a shield here.
@Connor_Stabler2 күн бұрын
I think the reason the final boss of her Arcade mode was so difficult to kill was that his armor was actually blocking your attacks. I could hear the clanging occasionally when you hit him where it was covering his sides. That makes sense, since the game is trying to be realistic, and putting plate armor on someone you have to fight with a bladed weapon would definitely make them a boss fight, especially if you don't get armor yourself.
