as always, great story telling, even managing a cliffhanger! the drone work, editing, music are all top notch. can’t wait for part deux.

Thank you! I'm glad all that enduring the cold wasn't for nothing. ;) Also I just realized it's a cliffhanger with the last shot being literally a cliff. How did I miss that?!

Great editing Derek! I especially love the song you chose for the intro! I can't wait to see the other parts! 🤩

Thank you! Yes I agree, I think that's probably my favourite song in this video. And it's the one that set the mood for the entire edit.

Damn, that’s the kinda journey you tell your Grandkids about. Bravo 🤘

Grandkids?? How old do you think I am???! Just kidding. :P. Thanks for watching.

Nice dude! I was jealous a bit when you quit in the morning, I was feeling like « i’m going to an adventure!… oh wait my car is broken, I met those people only late last night and my own setup is at 300km from here 😂 ». Maybe next time!
@derekmctavish Жыл бұрын
Next time for sure! You wouldn't have been jealous that next morning though. It was cold.

Never sleep on the sad when it's cold when you don't have a sleeping pad. Exactly! Once of these days I'll make it to another one of those trips. :)

Derek, I don’t know what I just watched, but it was really and truly amazing! The editing and the soundtrack was extremely enjoyable.

Thanks! I guess there's not a whole lot of context on this trip in this video, but I'll try to bring some of that in for the next Trans-Taiga episodes.

I’m thinking about doing that route this summer on my motorcycle.

Omg yeah do it! It’s not super technical at all but would be a lovely thing to do on a bike. I wanted to initially on either my KLR or KLX, but then realized how cold it would be, and -7C is about my limit for long distance on a moto. What bike would you do it on?

What month is this happening in? I *love* how much the drone adds in terms of different (and impressive) vantages! Rover seems unfailingly perky. And-- the awesome music: by that composer you live with? Eagerly awaiting Part 2... though I expect editing so much footage must take forever!
@derekmctavish Жыл бұрын
The drone was such an awesome asset to have for this. This would be a whole other video without it, not to mention even just flying it around while actually standing there and see the landscapes was so cool. This was just last month, in April. I literally arrived in Montreal the day after the ice storm, and then it just kept getting colder the more north we went. The music is from various composers licensed from Musicbed, among which I am not. Though I'd like to see if I can find some time to write a few tracks for the next parts. We'll see... ;)

That's epic! Now I remember how cold the first day was brrr

Seriously. I mean it was the coldest day for one, but also I feel like that first night of multi-day winter camping is the hardest.

So I lived in Matagami in 72 and left thinking I would never meet anyone who's been there. Then I find out last week my coworker lived there 15 years ago. Now I'm watching some dudes eating there...I am in the Matrix!
@derekmctavish Жыл бұрын
I can add to this -- because here's me thinking that I'm not gonna know anyone who's been up there. Friend of mine from originally from France is watching the video and is like "oh Matagami, I've been there!" Whhhaa? Is it much different now from how it was in 72?
@Oxmustube Жыл бұрын
@@derekmctavish Since it's a mining town, it used to be much more populated and lively as it is now. In french, we call those towns "villes champignons" (mushroom towns), seeing as they are so much dependant on local industry.

Oh yeah-- what kind of temperature ranges are we talking about here?
@derekmctavish Жыл бұрын
Honestly it wasn't crazy cold. Had it been a week or two earlier we would have been facing -40 to -50C, but I think we didn't see anything colder than -15 or maybe -20C at night. During the day I'd say average was around -5C.
