I'd think the whole "nail still in the wound but bandaged" situation could be plausible. You wouldn't want to remove it yourself, you'd probably want to have a medical professional do the job, and you also wouldn't want to be spraying blood all over the house or the car on your way to hospital, so you'd bandage around the wound as well as you could.
