I've been thrifting all my life. I've found some amazing thrift store steals, including a gold and carnelian ring worth over $1000. I paid $5 for it. Bored during Covid lockdown, I've looked for second had stuff online. I found a gold and diamond brooch from the 1910s for $5, and a gold and ruby brooch from the 1940s for $20. I never sell my finds though. I either keep them, or give them away.

I remember someone I used to know bought a $100 ring at an estate sale. It was gawdy but she liked the color of the stone so she bought it and threw it into a drawer planning to someday do something with it. About 20 yrs later, her husband wanted to surprise her by having the stone made into a pendant. He took it to a jeweler and the jeweler offered him $50K on the spot. This is kind of small but still exciting, I was looking at the jewelry at a goodwill in Ga and I noticed a pretty opal necklace and near it was what looked like matching earrings. Anyway I asked how much it would be if I purchased both (bc they would look good together).. paid $10. I bought some used books at a trade-in store, one had $120 in old series $20's, another had a Top 30 Playlist from WKNR radio dated May 12 1965. I sold the bills for $200 and I still have that playlist.
