I will admit, this has been the first story to truly horrify me. The fact that these two men even thought that this was an "okay" thing to do is horrific. Two of my grandsons are autistic, they are both non-verbal, although the older one, who is 7, does use some sign language. I have been working with him on adding some words as well, he has "juice" down quite well! What many people don't realize is that non-verbal doesn't mean there is no communication, it just means that it isn't necessarily in words. I hope you continue to learn to be comfortable speaking with others, & if you get overwhelmed, it's ok to spend some time by yourself. I very introverted, so I get that.
