Imagine being that officer. He was probably thinking "OK, I've just got to prove to this kid there are no monsters under the bed, in the closet, or in this cave." And then he became ritually sacrificed like it's 1962 BC. Absolutely fucking crazy.

In what is now Mexico, such sacrifices were going on well after BC, such rituals being seen by the Spanish. Many of the commoners actually begged the Spanish for help and joined them in fighting against their rulers to put an end to such madness. And they did. Unfortunately, revisionist anti-historians wish to make the Spanish the 100% villains, when in reality, they were the rescuers. Obviously the Spanish did do bad things once gaining power which is inexcusable. However, I think any reasonable person can admit that as bad as corruption can be, nothing is worse than being under rulers who eat you.

That’s why it is important, in situations like that, to take the word of the person at face value until proven otherwise. Even if there is a 95% chance it is nothing, that other 5% can end you. The world is a crazy place and, everyone should always have that in the back of their minds, especially law enforcement. It was the 60’s though, so I can understand the officer being more naive .

The abuse they endured was horrific too. Sexual assault, including against kids. The original scammers sold young girls to traffickers when they were done with them. So they had been primed to follow this woman after a long time of already ritualistic abuse and torture. And then it got worse. This story is truly frightening.

Man, imagine how shitty Sebastian felt when he realized that the most awful thing he had ever seen was going to happen to him. Just because he had seen something so twisted that he had no choice but to try to find out what happened. Same for Luis, the police officer. He probably was able to get a bit more information out of Sebastian on his way there and quickly realized how his good deed was going to be punished. I hope the inaction of the other officers haunted them for a long time before they came to terms with how they failed a child and colleague.

@@timdeathly I think the police should at least check something out when a child is practically begging someone to listen to them. When my daughter was in high school a few people she knew fully believed they were werewolves, vampires and Lichen's. Something happened at school and one of the kids hard a razor blade and was cutting themselves in the restroom. My daughter raises the alarm after trying unsuccessfully to try to get her to stop and hearing her say she planned to take her own life. The school hauled a bunch of these people into the office as well as the girl and they pretend to have no clue what they were talking about. I had heard about some of this first hand as well and went to the school to inform the principal and at first he thought I was psychotic. But I told him to call the girl in while I was there and he did. She came in and after a couple of minutes she broke down and admitted she was trying to kill herself and she was sacrificing herself for their little "coven". I look over at the principal and said "glad I could do your job for you". People need to listen more to children and not just think they are full of "sh**.

These cops in this story were just lazy and didn't want to bother- that's really all it boils down to. I feel bad for the kid though, he tried hard to do the right thing. This reminds me of one of my moms childhood story’s. She’s 60+ years old , but when she was a child her family would go to Mexico to visit their relatives on the holidays, and she said her grandma or her great grandma told her to never go up to the mountains, which were covered in caves because supposedly that’s where the Brujas (witches) lived. Witchcraft has black=pure evil and white=nice but delusional people who just haven't experienced it enough to realize it or are in denial or lying. Of course, if your family was warning you, it wasn't because those cave witches are going to chant with fairy dust to get the kids little ponies. Only pony in those caves is probably going to be a side dish to cooked child and a goblet of blackish- red blood wine.

Usually they're told in a way that is very disrespectful to the victims, thank you for telling this story without biases. Also, just an extra piece of information: Coatlicue is an Aztec goddess, not incan. Both, Santos and Cayetano had no idea of incan mythology so they mixed Aztec and Incan without any knowledge about any of those cultures. I used to live in the state where this story happened, and once had the chance to visit La Yerbabuena, and trust me... there's something off. When you described the light coming from the cave it reminded me of when my mother and me went down to live in Mexico. Every year we had to go back to the border to renew our visa. I had forgotten this particular border visit since I was about 6 years old. We were staying with one of my mom's friends. For some reason we were in the mountains. We saw a line of people with torches and candles going up the side of the mountain to a cave. My mother was curious and wanted to go up to see what was happening but her friend told her it wasn't for foreigners to see. I still have a necklace pendant that is a reproduction of a vampire god (?). It's a made of gold washed silver and the body of the bat is big and pear shaped (the body is a bell) with the stylized bat head and wings at the top. It is a reproduction of a jewelry item found in a tomb of an important priest or leader that was dug up. The tomb had been filled with many pieces of gold jewelry objects. I doubt it has any connection to this story. Around the same time of our border visit that time we were living in a small town and I remember being scared of vampire bats. We didn't have screens on our windows and I was scared a vampire bat would get in, so I sleep with my head under the blanket even in the summer. I had heard of a man at a local outdoor cantina (bar) who had been sitting enjoying a beer when he saw a vampire bat licking the blood from a bite on his thumb. He hadn't even felt it bite him! That was real nightmare fuel for my dreams for awhile.

Strange I thought as I glanced. Then to my surprise, I noticed that young girls shirt had a picture of Hillary Clinton raising her hands. Monika Lewinsky was bowing down before her, while Bill Clinton was tied to a chair and blind folded. And Donald Trump was holding strings from the sky to everyone head and hands. At the top of her shirt it said,.."The High Priestess of Blood." Will never forget that moment, or this story. Awesome story Mr. B. and keep up the great storytelling. another Aussie here, I never went into the "forces" but have many relatives and friends that did, I'm 43 and know some "vets" that are in their 60's and some in their 30's( and all in between), navy, army and air force and none are the same.... I'm all for mental health and all against conflict.... I was suicidal at 12, since then I have gone out of my way to "be the shoulder to cry on", and gone above and beyond (even at my own expense/sacrifice) to "put a smile" on a randoms face if I sense they need it, have had 50 year old men cry their eyes out whilst draped over me over thing that happened decades before, I know 60+ year old men who still freak out over any plane or chopper overhead......... FUCK WAR & EVERY DAMMED THING IT STANDS FOR!!!! my heart goes out to all with mental health issues.

Also, please do a good review of American economics and take note of when the US economy tanks and when it recovers based on party. You may find it a bit more enlightening rather than parroting other people’s opinions which are likely just as uneducated. For a quick start, beginwith Bill Clinton who left the American economy in the black with a surplus. And then see what happens under Bush to the American economy and it’s complete collapse in 2007-2008 prior to the election of Obama. I hella got chills going down my back rn as im sitting in my truck will anyways i have some time to kill so ill tell you all if you have read this far. When i was 12 my dad worked as a semi truck driver for the waste disposal company and the story went how this young truck driver was driving down the road and he was going around hwy 20 late around 2-3 in the morning. He was checking his mirrors as any driver does and he suddenly feels pretty anxious, as he is checking his mirrors as he pans his head to the left a women appears holding onto the mirrors and side bar of the truck. He slams the breaks and the truck started to go cock eyed but he got control of the truck. He was really spooked, he nervously looked out the window and drove off and as soon as he got to the next rest stop he got out checked and no blood was on the truck or anything. He said she was pale with white eyes and nasty dark mucky hair ugh man when my dad told me that story as a kid fuck it freaked me out but hahah its a great story. Thanks mr. ballin you da man 🤘🏾

Been bingeing these lately - I think what I enjoy most about these stories is that even though they are "strange dark and mysterious" - and in this case gruesome and horrifying - your presence just exudes *safety*. And you obviously care very much for the victims. So proud of your for seeking out therapy - mental health and depression is so misunderstood and the stigma is enormous and life threatening. Thank you for sharing your story!
