Hearing these stories i honestly wish i could just have 10 minutes with these parents. These are pathetic people treating their kids like that.

Oh trust me, most of these parents have abandonment issues. It's the most toxic thing you can imagine in a household. Especially when said parents, have had trauma themselves. You would expect sympathy and help... but Nope! They just make things absolutely worse. Options are often limited, depending where you live. But most of them tend to leave once they have enough resources to do so. And then, the aforementioned parents either don't care anymore because they have "lost control over THEIR c h i ld" or/and deeply regret it. Freedom awaits fellas.

My mom would read articles about ways INFANTS have died because they weren't being supervised and try to apply the same logic to me and my brother who were already much older than the kids mentioned in those articles. The worst case of this was the idea that we could drown in less than an inch of water. This was obviously talking about infants being left unsupervised cause they'll helpless and can't pull themselves out of the water if they need to. We were 5 and 10 years old at the time and essentially had no privacy to take baths or showers by ourselves because my mom was convinced we'd drown if we weren't constantly being supervised. Less than an inch of water at that age I'd have be held face down in the bath in order to drown otherwise the water wouldn't even reach my face in the first place and I would be fully capable of just getting out on my own unless someone was forcing me to stay there. I also later realized the whole fear of drowning thing was really just an excuse cause even when I wasn't in the bathroom she would constantly walk into my room without knocking always right as I was getting dressed and then use the excuse "I use to change your diapers" as an excuse why she didn't need to knock and didn't have to give me any privacy. Her invasion of privacy was so bad I was having issues in High School being known as the smelly kid cause I didn't feel safe in my own home to actually take a freaking shower. Had locks put on my doors which turned out to be useless when my mom showed she could still open the door if she wanted to which I took as a threat. I eventually figured out my parents are really sound sleepers and would take showers in the middle of the night while my mom was asleep.

I'd like to pair one with someone and have the parent go about their business trying to go through life for a day with someone hovering over their should asking them every ten seconds what they're doing and why they're doing it and then getting angry when they don't get an answer they like.

Thankfully my parents were more trusting in me to know what was right from wrong. Even let me slip into trouble at points (Not crime but small things) to find out the consequences were or get into fights with people to gain some sort of experience. Very thankful.

I'll be straightforward, I'm only 20 but if I had a girlfriend who had helicopter parents I probably would just break up with her, I'm not jumping through an insane amount of drama just to spend a couple of hours with a girl who's phone is constantly going off cause of her insane parents.

The worst part, the girl probably would have problems getting in relationships, or just wouldn't want to get one anymore. This scenario became sadder when you think more about it.

My mom forced me to get haircuts up until i was 20. The last straw for me was when the person cutting my hair left it slightly longer than usual (per my request) and my mom flipped. She dragged me back into the saloon and told the barber to fix my hair. It was humiliating. The barber then measured how much they were going to cut and asked me if i was going to say how much or my mom. I got into an argument immediately when we left and she never forced me to get a haircut again

Since I don't have many friends and thus, don't go out much, my parents are simply very strict and over protective. At least to me. For my older brother on the other hand, they are incredibly restrictive. We've never been allowed sleepovers; we didn't get a phone until 13, way past everyone else in our year; we weren't allowed social media for the longest time; my brother is barely allowed to go out after dinner, even on holidays; and we aren't allowed locks on our bedroom doors.

I will just tell this one story because otherwise this would turn into a novel... 🙄😅... I was in my early 20s and between apartments at the time so I was sort of staying at my parents house. Although I was usually out, as I had a car. This particular day, I was at her house. I left my phone in the kitchen charging while going to the bathroom to take a sh*t for about 5-10 minutes (maybe... I'm a quick pooper 😂) My mom called my cell phone 4 times, the house phone twice, and my best friend, at work, twice... Just to ask if I would give her a ride home the next day when her car would be in the shop. Clearly, Not an emergency. And even if it was, it would have been overkill... 😳🙄🙄 It didn't phase my best friend because she has parents that have done similar things.

What's a helicopter parent- like they got engines or smth?
@marluxia8832

I think the trope was born because in many American cartoons the parents of child main heroes or their friends do exactly that - arrive on helicopters, and very often they have loudspeakers with them too. Only to embarrass and humiliate the poor kids, and take them away from their friends against their will.

I think they are called helicopter parents is because: they hover over you, send things your way that causes damage, constantly harasses your armored walls, and goes down in a blaze of fire when you have SAM on your side.

I really can not understand why so many people let their parents treat them this way. From my teens on, I made my boundaries clear and yes we had many problems but I won‘t let anyone control me in any way related to the topic. 21 now and my mother changed very much. Still very strict but not to topics that are related to me and my privacy. Still thankful she is that way, because without her I would sit on the street, dealing drugs und withering away. Now I got a very decent job after my 3,5 years of being a trainee and moved out without any problems. Talk folks, even if this may make living uncomfortable, your future self will thank you .wanted to say some positive ways this can end 😵‍💫Greetings from Germany 🫡

Sometimes this happens because the person is financially dependent on their parents. Other times they're indoctrinated and brainwashed from an early age. There are various reasons why they get treated this way.
