This video is all about Peugeot and the comeback that they are currently on. But did you ever stop to think about some of the cheap good ones no one bought? No, me neither. Well in this video we talk the Peugeot 407 coupe! A fairly rare premium coupe from a time when most were expensive and there were better options out there. Enjoy the video.

The 407 coupe is not styled by Pininfarina but the 406 coupe is. I have both the 407 and 406 coupes both great cars. The 407 coupe I have is the super rare run out model which is the 3.0 v6 hdi of which only 51 came to the uk. It shares the engine with other Jaguars and Land Rovers too. Standard is 241 bhp but with a remap mine is now 310 bhp. They are very refined, smooth and quiet and with the big engine immensely quick. Great equipment levels too and great to own something different.

Really? I read it was still styled by Pinifarina? Still very cool it’s a rarity and I love seeing them

@@CarsWithBen it was Peugeot who styled it. It’s different and nowhere near as bad as people made out! It’s such a great car to own and drive though,

It's probably worth pointing out that the V6 models also came with AMVAR electronic suspension, but even the lesser-engined models have a double wishbone front, multi-link rear - the Laguna Coupe, if I recall, had a much simpler setup, though GT models did have 4-wheel steering, something the 407 lacked. The 407 was a larger, longer car and consequently a fair bit heavier than the Laguna, and given it has a very long front with a sizeable overhang, possibly for safety, the standard front and rear parking sensors were probably really helpful. I believe they're also well-built as they were on a half-speed production line in the Rennes factory, however I do hear that sensors and suspension components can be somewhat problematic, and that you'll go through tyres a little quicker than you would like on the heavier models. I can imagine that the hydropneumatic offerings from Citroen would be even more expensive to maintain, if you're unlucky. I have never driven one, sadly, and though I did want one for a long time, it would probably be prohibitively expensive to run, though as I no longer commute to work and my journeys tend to be a decent distance, it does make a bit more sense... if not for the fuel prices! I did also consider an RCZ, but I feel it could do with being a foot longer so at to make those rear seats usable, though of course that would've compromised the shape. Those were made in Austria by Magna Steyr, so the usual (and generally inaccurate) French jokes don't apply.

I have had my 407 coupes (3x 3.0 hdi) from new with very minimal problems. The cars really have been bullet proof, I get 40-55 mpg depending on journeys, mine run the 19 inch optional wheels and tyres last at least 40k as I get the geometry and tracking checked regularly. The biggest outlay was the cambelt change on each one at around £700 with my friend and trusted Peugeot specialist. I had a parking sensor fail on one of them, a set is about £30 and half an hour to fit, the leather and paintwork still looks amazing especially on the red one I have which has done 153,000 trouble free miles. It also recently won a concours event at my Peugeot club yearly event. All 3 of them still ride, drive and perform wonderfully without a single squeak or rattle and this is testament to the partially hand built quality that was present when they were made. My silver remapped one also clocked 165 mph gps verified at a car event I also attended with my Ferrari at Bruntingthorpe. What’s not to like!?

How can you love the 407 coupé and hate the 407 SW? It's practically the same car except for the back, and IMO the SW is the best looking estate car out there. That's why I bought one. I found a really nice 163 hp one with low mileage for super cheap. I fit it with a 10" Android head unit to bring it into the 2020's and now it's the perfect allround car, using it for trips, weekend shopping, hauling building material, taking kids to various event and so on.

You're wrong. The coupe doesn't share any bodypart, window or light with the SW.

I bought one last summer, really loving it so far even in the snowy winter we get around here although the doors and turning mirrors are slightly problematic sometimes when they're frozen but you can still get the door open even if the window doesn't drop down. Have only seen 2 other ones on the road since I got mine, both were 2.2s judging from the single exhaust and I haven't seen a single petrol V6 for sale ever since I bought mine. The engine is one of the main reasons I love it, it's dead silent when idling but it has a really nice rumble on a cold start and if you floor it. Great for cruising as well because of the double windows and crazy good soundproofing. It really didn't look that great in the photos but in person it looked so cool because it's so low to the ground and the roof is so low, even though I'm really short I still constantly smack my head into the A-pillar when getting out of the car. The metallic red color is also really nice in the sea of grey and black cars I guess the 406 is the one a lot of people want and I assume it's going to be way more collectable in the future but I love the 407 coupe

I have problems with electric mirrors in the summer. When it's parked in the sun they won't fully open. Takes few (or tens of) tries of closing and re-opening them to make them open. So frustrating. Other than that, it's a great car. Beautiful and comfortable. Also quite spacious for a coupe. The only real con I can think of is they're rare and finding affordable spare parts is close to impossible.

@@Martyykafinding affordable spare parts all depends upon your definition of affordable! In Australia, where I live, Peugeot dealer prices for spare parts are very high, most people think. But there are numerous aftermarket suppliers here, even in our small market.

Your shitbox BMW uses suspension that is identical to a Nissan Micra and other budget cars. Step your game up to a double wishbone like the Pug already. Porsche has only just managed to do it to their new 2020+ 911's.
