Link Click is 2021’s most underrated anime. Ever since Gigguk made his video on Odd Taxi, I wondered, could there be another hidden gem within 2021’s year of anime… YES
Link Click or Shiguang Dailiren is a Chinese Anime/DongHua aired in Spring 2021. Along massive names like Attack On Titan:Final Season and Re:Zero, this gem of a show wasn’t as popular.
So that’s exactly why I’m going to be talking about Link Click today.
Edit: Scamboli Reviews just made a video titled “China Might Have Just Stolen Anime Of The Year” talking about Link Click so I guess I’m not the only one who’s seen this gem of a show.

Just finished Link Click 5 minutes ago so I could finally watch this video without getting spoiled. This is definitely a strong contender for one of the best animes released this year and I think more people should definitely watch this in their free time. The story and concept of going back in time was great, main characters are memorable and likeable especially Cheng, and that ending made me scream "WAIT WHAT??!!?" so hard in my room for how unexpected it happened, but I do think that ending was a great way to end Season 1 and leave the door wide open for a Season 2. I think the best thing that the anime does perfectly is building up the tension throughout the story and I hope they can maintain that level of immersion in the next season. Of course, great video as always man. Keep up the good work! 👌👌 EDIT: Fuck yeah, the OP & ED are absolute fucking bangers as well.

I would say that Link Click is my favorite anime/donghua of all time, but I need to say this. For me the reason Link Click stayed underrated because the way it was promoted it looked like a BL Series. That's why I'm telling my friends to watch it because this is good and a breath of fresh air.

The first time the ending came in, my jaw was on the floor and I felt a chill go down my neck as I was trying to understand the implications of the cliffhanger while simultaneously being amazed by how good the ending song was. It was overwhelming in a good way in the first episode and didn't lose the element of surprise at all throughout the rest of the show.

Same man same, I was full with shivers. Just in shock trying to process it while the chilling ending came as always. One of the few anime endings that I’ve listened to fully while finishing an episode. I usually skip openings and endings.

Ik im late but I seriously agree. The scene where Cheng was crying on the floor after basically reliving a traumatic experience really had me crying bc I felt so emotionally attached to them. Also they managed to make a plot with time travel actually feel cohesive which is super rare.

Link Click is one of those animes that I saw art and such for but never knew the name of. I have been wanting to watch it for a long time and only recently found out the name thanks to a crossover they had with a game called Identity V. When I didn't have anything better to do awhile after finding out the name of it, I sat down and finally watched it and binged it all night, which isn't something common for me. The ending really got me and I screamed over it, immediately I went and started looking around to see if there was a manga or any word of a season 2, when I saw the trailer, I was so happy. I then showed the anime to some online friends and we ended up binge watching the second half of the season in one night because they got so invested in it as well, especially with the cliffhangers at the end of every episode. Link Click is 10000% one of my favorite animes now.

Dude, if you want to shed light on a criminally underrated donghua, you need to check out Fog Hill of the Five Elements (Wu Shan Wu Xing). It was produced by a team of SIX people and took three years to create three episodes. It is a GEM of hand drawn animation, heavily inspired by traditional Chinese watercolor art. And the love and attention shows.

The end of Link Click left me with shivers and shock. I’m not easily impressed, kind of a tsundere even though I say it myself, but Link Click was not the show I expected. I had shivers all over and just watched the ending flow while I was processing the last 20 seconds of the show.

I definitely agree with everything. The music is used incredibly well and makes transitions between series even smoother. I don’t have any bad word to say about this masterpiece. Even learned a dance from the opening. But time traveling explained enough, as for me, *Genshin is everywhere ~

SIdenote, there's one official art I think that BEST foreshadows the ending, though I'm not sure whether it came out before the donghua finished, or not. It's the one with Qiao Ling, Cheng Xiaoshi, and Lu Guang all together. Lu Guang is sleeping, and holding what appears to be a wine glass with red wine in it, Cheng Xiaoshi, being the more... I guess "light hearted" guy of the group is taking a picture with him, and Qiao Ling is holding a knife. Pay attention to Qiao Ling, and the red wine on Lu Guang. Edit : They're standing over a table with cake. Notice how only the white cake is cut, but the knife has red stains on it.

Yup, I applaud the absolute audacity of the team with that poster. iirc they released it only a day or so before Season 1 Episode 11. People watched the finale, went back to the poster, and went "are you fucking kidding me" Loved it

Link Click is a great anime (or donghua, but Chinese people don't care about this distinction. In Chinese, all anime-style animation is called 动漫 dòng màn regardless of nation of origin, so some people in the comment section need to chill out lol). But one thing I've yet to see anyone mention is the name links. The show in Chinese is called 时光代理人 or "Time Agents." 时光 (a somewhat literary term for "time") is read shí guāng . The characters' given names are 小时 (xiaǒ shí, lit. "little time" but also the Mandarin word for "hour") and 光 (guāng "light") which when you put the final characters together, you get shí guāng "Time." Another interesting note is that Lu Guang's name is part of the word 露光计 (lu guang ji) which refers to an exposure meter, the kind of photographic technology used to measure light. Also, though I don't think it was intentional, but their surnames make some interesting homophones. If you ignore the characters, and just focus on the sounds, Lù can mean "to record" and Chéng can mean "to become." There's lots of little stuff like this sprinkled throughout the show. tl;dr Crunchy roll, pay your translators better! This shit ain't easy.

I watch Link Click in subs since my Chinese ain't that good, but it's good enough for basic conversations and I'm Chinese too. It's just like Japanese where everything is context-based, so there were parts I interpreted differently than the subtitles. So if someone understands Japanese or Chinese, the interpretation can be very different for each individual.

Anime Content Creators like Hyacinth & most Anime fans in the Anime Community are just plain ignorant and bias towards Donghua. This dude says that Donghua has been lacking in general currently but he doesn't name any examples of these lackluster or Bad Donghuas he's talking about. I even notice that some Donghua fans ( and people who watch Donghua.) in the comment section of this video are recommending and name dropping other popular & good Donghuas. Judging from the comments, it looks like Hyacinth hasn't heard of or watched any of them. So how can Donghua ( in general.) be lacking in quality when you haven't watched most of them in the 5 year time span that China has been producing them. I would tell Donghua Fans & Donghua Lovers to just enjoy Chinese animation regardless of what most anime fans in the anime community thinks about Donghua.

The cgi look too much reminiscent to ps2 graphics specifically the Naruto Uzamaki Chronicles cinematic. Not saying there arent good Donghua but it's not enough to make an impact of talk and discussion until King's Avatar and Link Click

Great review! I only disagree with how you said that they should explain how the power works. I feel like it would just be fluff/fanservice? I personally enjoy the sense of unknown there is, and the origins of the power could be a mystery that's expanded on in the future.

As a guy who like Donghua i actually want to say saying Donghua had been lackluster is a crime. I think the issue with Donghua is not that they're terrible. But rather they didn't have mainstream appeal that anime have. Series like Faeries Album, To Be Heroine, Fox Spirit Matchmaker, Heaven Official Blessing and MDZS felt a lot like passion project. But i don't think theyre the series i would recommend to anyone watching Donghua for the first time. Link Click is probably the first that ever scrape that mainstream appeal. And even then Link Click is still pretty underrated.

Those are for hardcore anime watcher. And Link Click have similar level of palatability as said anime. If someone started watching anime I will probably give something more safe like Ano Hana, Nichijou or Spirited Away.

love your review!! link click is actually based off multiple real stories :) when i found this out, it just made me fall in love/appreciate the story so much more. episode 2 and 5.5 are stories from the own shows studio workers, episode 3-5 was a real devastating moment in history (2008 sichuan earthquake), and the child kidnapper from episodes 6-7 is a real kidnapper who still hasnt been found to this day (search aunt mei).. cant wait for season 2!!

I’m glad that you went with a less radical approach to rating link click. I see a lot(lmao not that many) of content creator call it the best to hype it up. i just finished this in a day and goddamn link click is super underrated, im a seasonal anime watcher but ive never heard a single news about this donghua until i wtched a video about link click from gigguk n goddamn this show is almost perfect, i said this coz we havent got the ending n there re a few plotholes but i can turn a blind eye for that coz yea like u said its only the 1st season n i hope more of the mystery will be explained in the 2nd season

Personally this anime really stuck out to me with how deep and involved the world building to modern Chinese society is, exploring incredibly down to earth issues such as the dilemma between your obligation towards your family in rural poverty and the ambition of moving to a big city just to name one of them watching each episodes felt like gazing back into my own childhood as well as peering into what my older relatives would have experienced with the incredible VAs, accents and lively animation. My biggest issue with the anime though is how poor the translation is, it felt as if they just said screw it and shoved the whole script through google translate, it would be tough for people to translate puns with no corresponding words in another language but taking slang words as their literally meaning confused the hell out of me when I rewatched the series with subtitles.

Although it came out in 2020 Darwin’s game was a pretty good anime and has been on Netflix since August 1st, 2021. I also have to say that Beastars season 2 was amazing! I’ll definitely have to check out Link Click but I’m a scrub who loves dubs

The ending fucking got me staring at the screen like the cliffhanger on the last episode was *GODLY* as it got me wondering what she meant by “Restart”. SPOILERS: Poor Emma, she just got possessed and yeeted herself off the bridge. Not to mention how someone also possessed um Brown Haired girl (sorry I’m bad at memory) to stab Lu, I wonder what happens next and I’m excited for season 2!
