Awesome Catches Coop. It was great talking to you the other day at Oso . I got another mark off my bucket list . Meet and talk to Coop again , this time don't choke up. Be Safe Brother.

Coop, before 9/11 the trout would go up the ship channel in winter. There is a flat on the east side where the trout would come up on sunny day. We used 52 series Mirrolure and run it slow. Miss those days. I learned downtown there are several drains into bay which would cut small muddy ditches and I caught several 27+ with mud on their belly. In 20+ years I think I saw a 30 incher but she won't hit. It was real cold and in those days we would follow a school of mullet, big trout would stay close but didn't feed all the time. Love winter trout fishing.

I’m a Florida boy who grew up on a river named Trout River , have caught probably a couple thousand specks over the years. One of my favorite to fish for, and flounder.

Coops Ive put in the hours this winter trying for a 30". Ive fished every bay/jetty in South Texas and gone offshore too. Had quite a few in late 20"s even a 29" but I cant lie! Needs to be done.

You mention wishin you had a powerpole. Theres a company called boatsticks that makes a manual power pole that you basically just stab into the mud/sand and it holds pretty well. you can use it for poling around too although i wish it was more flexible. It's 8 or 10 feet and breaks down into two pieces which is nice! also u could probably rig up a way to mount it to your kayak. Reach out to the company and I bet they would send you one!

Thresher Speckled Trout will hang out with Black Drum & Red Drum especially as they come back in from the winter offshore spawn. Don’t be afraid to throw micro lures as well to land some Gator Trout. The Trout are fat because they are feeding like crazy as there getting ready for early spring, April is usually the best month for monster trout in the deep channels & on the edge of flats at night as the water temp reaches 67-71 degrees.

Why do you live bait fish with a treble hook? I have had much better luck staying connected to fish with a circle or J hook. So I’m just curious on the advantages you find.

Standing in 3 feet of water with a bleeding fish on a stringer in the middle of nowhere by yourself, that looks like fun.
@Jrhnhemp2 жыл бұрын
Keep that stringer long (Never use a short string when wadefisjing!) with the needle end pushed down into the wade belt slot designed into it. If a shark hits your stringer, just pull the needle up and let it go. Your stringer will already be down current so releasing it will take it away from you. That’s advice I’ve followed for my entire wadefishing life and I’ve never had a stringer hit. BUT… better safe than sorry. There nothing like watching the sunrise standing hip deep in Copano Bay watching tailing reds within casting distance in front of you. You know it’s gonna be a memorable day that replaces all those days you got skunked.
