The most UNDERUSED tool in Adobe LIGHTROOM | The Calibration Panel

The calibration panel is probably the most underused and at the same time one of the most powerful tools in Adobe Lightroom Classic CC 2023.
In this video I explain to you why I think it's so underused, what it is, how it works and how you can incorporate in into your workflow to get better colours.
Once you've started using the Camera Calibration Panel in Lightroom you're never going to look at color, Hue and Saturation the same.

Thanks Marcel, great tutorial without blah blah and no click bait. Keep going! I see more and more youtubers telling nothing. Your channel is different.

Thank you for your, in my opinion, very refreshing, direct, and genuinely honest presentation. Your enthusiasm resonates with the viewer, certainly with me, and even though I have used calibration in the past, you have truly opened my eyes to it. Very good work!

To move the Calibration panel to the top, or wherever you want it, right-click on any panel and select "Customize Develop Panel". A new window opens. Click on the "hamburger" on the left and drag the Calibration panel to your desired location. Restart Lightroom for the change to be applied.

Wait, you're actually able to drag all the panels in Lightroom around?? How come I've never seen ANYONE who has he panels in a different order? This is an absolute game changer! Thank you so much Barry.

A brilliant clear example with no waffle. I often see people leave this to the end, due to where its located. Makes more sense to set the initial colours using this first. Love your channel and these videos on using the other parts of Lightroom which often do not get mentioned much. Great work and keep on going!!

I just discovered your channel. You have a talent that not so many have. You explain extremely clearly and, in my case, I applied immediately what I learnt and it was stunning. Congratulations. Please continue.

Excellent explanation Marcel, except the Camera Calibration panel doesn't 'need' to be at the end of your workflow. If you deem that it should be near the beginning, you can rearrange the panels to suit you. You don't always need to accept where the panels are as is. Take for instance the Lens Correction panel. You wouldn't use that panel at the end of your workflow because you would end up throwing all your colours off, so it makes sense to move that one too to the beginning. To rearrange the panels: In the Develop Module, right click any of the panels and then choose 'Customize Develop Panel' > A dialogue box will then appear with three lines next to each of the Develop Module options, all you need to then do is left click hold and drag around any of the options to where you think they 'should' go, and then click Save. It will require a restart of Lightroom Classic, but as soon as you do that, your panels will be in their customized position.

I actually made an entire video about the fact that you can rearrange the panels because someone pointed it out after I recorded this video, just like you did. Even though I've been using Lightroom for 8 years at this point I never knew about this.

Amazing tutorial, you know my secret :D very few people talk about this blue saturation trick. Please explore the effect of luts profiles, they made the biggest impact on my colors (profiles NOT presets).

😁 It‘s true. But since finding out about the calibration panel I‘ve used it in every single one of my photos. Especially the blue slider. Yeah I might touch in that in the future. I think profiles are also very much overlooked in lightroom.

I’ve hated this for a while, cause I love the calibration options, but it’s not available in Lightroom mobile. Which is the only Lightroom I use 🤦🏻‍♂️
@marcelohm123
@marcelohm123 8 ай бұрын
True, I‘ve been wondering for years if they will ever add the calibration Panel to Lightroom Mobile. However, there is a little workaround to at least get some of the goodness of the calibration panel on Mobile. If you create a Preset that uses the calibration panel on Desktop and import it into Lightroom mobile, it will have the same effect. So the mobile app is able to apply the changes made be the calibration panel, you just can‘t use it or further change it inside the app. So what you can do is make a few basic „calibration only“ presets with different looks/levels of saturation and then if you start editing an image on mobile you are first going to apply one of those presets and then start editing.
