The first one I ever was on was a Dan Schneider forum in 2010, I’ve seen the 8 Passengers sub, Shane Dawson sub, Eugenia Cooney etc. The draw to these were always “these people are harming others/children/themselves and we can clearly see it, how is this being allowed? We need to talk about it”. I had no idea these existed for the sole purpose of just talking shit?!! About people who just “annoy” them? Taylor Swift dating a football player and selling collectors editions of her albums doesn’t feel “snark” worthy to me at all 😂

I don't think ALL Taylor Swift criticism is misogyny (and to think so is clown behaviour) but there's certainly a lot of casual misogyny displayed from her haters who claim to be progressives themselves. It shouldn't be this hard to call out a woman without resorting to slutshaming or bodyshamimg her. People on the internet make 'jokes' about k*lling her young fans (even the ones that aren't being asshats online), constantly discuss her body, whether she has 'sex appeal' or not, fault her for having many relationships, compare her with Elon, Trump and even H*tler, reduce her whole discography to only being about her boyfriends etc and these gets TONS of likes, mind you. Idgaf about stan wars, we shouldn't abandon our morals because of some celebrities who don't know us.

That was the first place I saw on the internet that routinely vocalized the amount of racism Kayla Nicole is facing from T Swift fans for being black and having the audacity to be Travis Kelce’s ex. It makes me disappointed in D’Angelo that he can pontificate on a white woman billionaire’s experience of misogyny, when a lot of Taylor’s actions have been nothing but inaction and silence when WOC are abused on her account. Idk. There are many valid critiques.
@kelly1453Ай бұрын
@@Neomie92 I am black. I am on black Twitter. You say that swifties have been attacking Kayla, and I agree some of them are insane and that is out of order. I’ve also seen a lot of Kayla fans attacking and bodyshaming Taylor for months. Every other week, there is a viral tweet about Travis downgrading to Taylor. I went to Kayla’s comments after her podcast episode and almost all the comments were insulting Taylor’s body and looks in comparison to Kayla. No one seems to care about this. Why? Again, it seems that many snarkers are only interested in the things that Taylor and Taylor adjacents (Travis, swifties etc) are doing, but no interest in calling out literally anything else. This makes a lot of their criticisms (some very valid in a vacuum, some completely false and based on rumours and opinions) come off as hypocritical and obsessive.

i’m neutral on taylor, i really like some of her songs, ‘haunted’ and some of her older albums are some of my faves, they make me so nostalgic, but as someone who is on her actual subreddit and goes there time to time - i’ve noticed that many of her fans are actually very levelheaded and are very quick to critique her when she does something a lot of people would disagree with. obviously, she has *loud* unhinged fans who think she can do no wrong (as does almost every artist) but majority of them seem super chill? i don’t really care for her personal life, i’ll never be able to find a billionaire relatable in the slightest but i greatly appreciate her bigger moves when it comes to lifting literal voting registrations by thousands solely due to her speaking out. i just cannot fathom wasting so much of your energy on a single person, i can’t justify it either and so much of this comes from misogyny and hating an artist that so many young women identify themselves with, it’s ridiculous

But I think most people are normal and the crazies are more vocal (therefore overrepresented), and I don’t get the need to be so emotionally charged about her. When I’m liking her music she’s on my feed, when I’m paying attention to other artists she doesn’t show up as much. People really don’t get how feeding an algorithm works - rage or love is all the same when the metric only measures attention and engagement. To an extent they’re doing it to themselves

We were all collectively annoyed by the favoritism and the butt kissing the nfl did for taylor by showing her every time the chiefs made a play. And then the sub started to get more snarky and it wasnt just about football anymore but both of them in general. The sub even changed the theme to be a snark sub. The snarkiness went past, "oh there they are again" to Taylor is disgusting, Taylor should be banned, Taylor is sabotaging other pop girls careers. It started to remind me of the one scene in mean girls where Janice and Ian caught Cady having her house party and Cady lied to Janice about not going to her art show. She tells Cady, "You're not pretending anymore. You're just like them (the mean girls) cold, shiny, hard, plastic." That sub has become nothing but bullying and frivolous and childish complaining. They've become just as obsessed in hating her. I see the same complaints they post as the same ones I had in middle school, when i was immature and stupid, making fun of another girl. Its wild.

For context, that’s part of a quote from Taylor Swift when she addressed her Vienna concerts being cancelled due to planned terrorism attacks (linked to ISIS or at least planned by men/boys inspired by ISIS). She didn’t post anything about it until after her next set of shows (London) were completed and her team was back in the US. There are probably a 100+ good reasons to have waited to address until after the London shows, including not wanting to inspire copy cats. She worked closely with London police and literally hired new security with anti-terrorism expertise to get through those shows. I’ll also just note a new “fun fact” I learned - the only shows she’s cancelled were for a military coupe in Thailand, Covid shutdowns, and now the planned terrorist attacks. Anyways, this snark subreddit was full of people saying TS doesn’t care about her fans and tons of super highly upvoted posts (thousands of upvotes, I think they even pinned one) about how “I work in ___ and I can tell you there is no issue with Taylor immediately posting something like ‘heartbroken for my Vienna fans.’ This is just evidence she only cares about money.” They were extremely *unhinged* about it all, and that’s why part of their sub bio is making fun of TS’s “sometimes silence is showing restraint” quote which again.. is in reference to waiting to address planned terror attacks until after another 4 concerts were safely finished.

I remember the earlier days on the subreddit. There were valid criticisms on her new album, overexposure, variants, jet use, etc… Now it seems like they are criticizing her over every little thing. And as you said, it’s ironic because they are acting like the people they hate (Swifties)
@kyrus4989Ай бұрын
I agree with you on this. I stopped going to the sub as much because they criticize her for stupid shit like her having bad posture. I got upvoted for defending her posture so it's not like they don't allow people to say nice things as long as it's nuanced, but it does feel overly nitpicky at times.
@kristynle2988Ай бұрын
I have been lurking on that subreddit for a few months, and I agree that there are some valid criticisms. Though, I think after Taylor's endorsement, that subreddit attracted a lot of toxic people which resulted in the constant bodyshaming, mocking of her open mouth and posture, and there were a lot of people got a bit too 'gleeful' with her being a possible alcoholic or doing ❄️, which is so disgusting to me. Even though she's a billionaire, addiction is still not something to joke around about. It's still so odd to think about how extreme people can be when talking about Taylor Swift, and I'm referring to both fans and haters. If I were to say "I like Taylor's music, but not her as a person," I feel like I would get hated on by both groups 😅
@noitshollyАй бұрын
ugh, give me a BREAK from the stupid variants argument. Do people criticise Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and CharliXCX for releasing even more variants than Taylor? Nope.
@user-mv5zt8qd9lАй бұрын
@noitsholly Taylor Swift has run pre-sales advertising bonus tracks to entice people and profit off their FOMO, only to release them for free at the album's release anyway. And she's done similar things after the release with demo tracks and now the entire collection is on one disc. It's not remotely the same as one album having aesthetic variations on the cover or vinyl. It's even worse when you consider that Taylor Swift is literally a billionaire who has no need to be capitalising off people like this.

I think when people find that the thing that brought them joy, that they invested in and thought about often, starts to change into something they don’t like they have to grieve it. And expressing that grief, which you have to do somehow in order to move on, can get messy when they don’t understand where all this anger and disappointment is coming from. To them it just looks like the rose tint in their glass got switched with a weird shade of green. Of course that’s not an excuse to be so awful. They keep feeding into the hate instead of moving onto the next step in the process. They don’t know that they can take a step back from it and ask themselves why any of this matters and why they feel the need to hate so violently. I think it’s very helpful to remind someone that the hell they’re making isn’t normal but it’s even more helpful to ask them questions to help them find their way out. Telling someone tangled in vines in the middle of nowhere “you’re lost” and then leaving them there is like, cruel in shiny new way that no one was ready for.
