My partner and I used this bag on a near-four week trip in the Balearic Islands. We're very impressed! The dangling and swaying issue is solved with this version, and it's so easy to take it on and off the bike now. Easily carries a one-person sleeping kit, while allowing additional storage under the straps on top. It's a keeper!

Looks like a really great solution. As you said, Neil, it checks just about all of the boxes. I'm admittedly a bit too far down the frugal spectrum, but I still think $190 is pretty competitive in this market.

I just bought one of these, and I love it. I'm short (5'4"), and I have an XS Cannondale, so there's not a lot of space on my seat post. I was concerned this seat pack would not work for me. On its first test, it worked great! The cinch straps really help tighten things down, and the air release makes the bag smaller than you think you could get it. I packed all of my sleeping gear and a few extra clothes, and I'm in love with it so far.

I love my Revelate Designs Spinelock 16L. Pretty expansive here in Germany but worth it so far. ... That said, the Ortlieb system looks very nice. Specially cause you don't have to use any bracket.

I see myself eventually getting one, assuming something better doesn't come out in the next year or so. Main reason, the shape. It requires such a minimal amount of exposed seatpost compared to other bags. This is perfect for bikes with obscenely long gussets at top the seat tube, eating up seat post space. Or, shorter riders with just not much exposed post period. This could let me ditch the rear rack and drybag.

Currently having huge issues getting this to sit on my new gravel bike (no dropper post). I actually had to move my saddle almost all the way back to get this to sit on the rails even with the smallest setting - thankfully there was some room to move it back anyway and it won't compromise my riding position. However with long bikepacking trips ahead, I'm really disappointed with the limitations on the position presented by the saddle rails. This directly affects the weight capacity as well, mind. My saddle post seems to be far too thick for this as well, as the bolts won't catch. If I wanted to use some protective tape to prevent scratches, it won't clamp down at all with the included bolts. And the post isn't some crazy thick old model either. I'm leaving this comment in hopes that I've missed something about how to fit the clasps on the saddle rails and someone can point it out to me, but otherwise I'm sorely regretting not getting the strapped version from last year. It would've even come with a bit more room for packing. I suppose this might sway a little less, though.

I wish you could test this on a full suspension mountain bike with a dropper post. A great idea is to test a bunch of seat packs on a full suspension mountain bike with a dropper post while bikepacking on single track trails.

Nice review! I would be worried about this breaking on the top of a mountain. Not that I think it's not well built. But the gods like breaking stuff on the top of mountains when it's raining or snowing.

Perhaps it would be possible to implement some strategically placed pieces of inner tube to help with the rattle from the plastic hardware?

Good review on the product stability. As someone who hasn't journeyed with a seatpack yet I"m curious how many shirts, pants, boxers an everage person might fit in one of these bags. This would help me decide if i'm doing pannier or bikepacking bags.

I have yet to find a better seatpack and mounting system than my Arkel seatpack. Doesn't move, handles more weight, waterpoof and the mounting system (a small rack that fits under the seat rails) can actually stay in place without a seatpack and the bonus, it actually fits all other seatpacks!

@peterhehn9511
@peterhehn9511 2 жыл бұрын
@@mtbgo7860 I have Ortleib, Revelate and Apidura seatpacks as well, I can honestly say the Arkel is the best for me because of the following: rail mounted rack holds the bag in place and will never sway (bonus you can actually attach stuff on top of the rack and that wont move either), the clips to close the bag snap together and create a carrying handle while off the bike (instead of clipping to the sides). 100 % waterproof (inner liner keeps everything dry), quality materials and construction ( no tears or seams coming apart - after 6 years including winter riding), if you get the 15L version and fill the bag everytime, it acts as a fender in the rain (no spray), easy to clean, holds its shape, carries a lot ( had 10kg worth of groceries - including 6 pack of beer), looks great even with just the rack in place and the best part is if you have a preference to use another seatpack, the rack will accomodate it and there will be no movement! Hope this helps! By the way, I drove to Arkel (near where I live) and the service is exceptional - they are real bike riders!

The clamp looks like a mount for bike locks, which i guess can be repurposed to use on the seatpost with the right size shims

Exactly what I was going to suggest. The Arkel has both 9L and 15L options, full dropper post compatibility and super stable with the frame. 720g for the frame and bag. Additional frames can be used with other bikes if you don't want to move them.

Nice review! I am bikepacking for many years. Even if I am a big fan of ortileb for pannier bags when I've seen the bikepacking bags i wasn't enthusiastic. I've broken a piece of the front bag just trying to mount it. But this seems great. I've tried many. Now I am trying one made by a small aritigian. Next one would be this one

velcro traps weaken every time you "open" them, and they can gather fuzz and dirt. I'd rather have a strap / clamp lock on it.

I think wider is better than longger. When you use a longger bag, its necessary for you to control the position of the heavy things in your bag. And if you forgot that, bag easily sag and kiss your wheel.I will pay for this, although its a little bit expensive.
@David-mj2nx
@David-mj2nx 2 жыл бұрын
You can't name a product after quick release and then add a velcro strap to the seat post... what about a locking/releasing system to the seat post locking ring? It would made mounting the bag back so much easier.

Hello ;-) My wife is a short person with a height of 1.50 cm. She is a good cyclist! She has a Trek Domane bike, size 44. Very small. The distance between the seat and the wheel is 14.5cm. She has an Apidura bag from when she had a 26" mountain bike. Now she can't use this bag with the Trek Domane because the bag touches her wheel :-( Question: What is the minimum distance between the seat and the wheel, to put the new bag in? What size is the bag in this particular space? It doesn't say anything in the instructions. Some other brands and they say the minimum distance. Thanks ;-)

I wouldn't say this is well executed quick-release option. Doesn't take much shorter than detaching regular Ortlieb seat bag and it weights more...

Just got the regular Ortlieb 11L seatpack w/ a valais and don't really see the need for these extra features. Taking it off the bike is not a huge ordeal and it seems stable enough. I'd rather go without the extra weight as I try to keep that area light.

The saddle rails must have a bend of at least 34°. The seat post clamp must be at least 13 mm from the middle of the bend in the saddle rail. There must also be at least 13 mm from the middle of the bend to where the rail connects to the back of the saddle. The bottom edge of the saddle (at the side) must be at least 14 mm higher than the bottom edge of the saddle rail.
