I feel like one of the reasons why music can be unnerving is because the song is so sloppily put together but it still has melody It feels like it's an attempt at emulating music, it feels like someone is trying to make something beautiful but lacks the understanding of what makes something beautiful so it tries to replicate beauty to blend in

The first song is disgusting with trying to defend Campbell. He sexually assaulted a woman and then a few years later murdered her and her young daughter in "revenge" because she testified against him in court after he was caught. He was released a few years later and that's when they were murdered. People wanting to get "his" side of the story is sickening. NO ONE should be on his side. He got what he deserved.

I forget what the song was called, i think it was called crooked mary or something, but there was this one vocaloid song i once came across that barely would even be considered a vocaloid song or even a song at all. it has almost no sound at first, with knocking and very quietly says what i think translated into "mom?" then, out of no where there is extremely loud sound with what sounds like distorted screaming. then silence again. then suddenly, the extremely loud sound would play again. the visuals make barely any sense at all and are hard to comprehend. its really unnerving.

I'm a fan of the 90s Memphis hip-hop/rap scene, as well as some other dark Southern underground stuff. A lot of the music from these genres have great flow, heavy beats, hard lyrics, etc., and were past their time. Artists like Tommy Wright III, 3 6 Mafia, Da Koopsta Knicca, Ni**as of Destruction (NOD), Lil Grimm/Children of the Corn/Graveyard Productions (one of the darkest artists), etc. were huge pioneers of the Memphis rap scene. From the surface, it's just your casual horrorcore/Southern/grimy hip-hop, but when you dig into the lyrics, you start to really dig into the dark and hidden aspects of the music. The Memphis rap scene is a great "rabbit hole" to go down. Although a lot of the music from this era revolves around downright demonic, satanic, and disturbing topics, it's still a very enjoyable genre. If needed, remember to "separate the art from the artist." Besides that, one very long (6 hour) album from a different genre I do recommend is The Caretaker - Everywhere at the End of Time, which goes over the stages and mental affects of dementia through music.

Here’s some more sonically uncanny valleys: The Wilhelm Scream- James Blake: this is a post dubstep and R&B song that James covers one of his father’s songs that he made, the unnerving part is where the instrumental can get dense a bit too dense. This sort of density and long, cold pauses are used a lot on his self titled debut Soft Blur 1 and 2 and Hankie by Aphex Twin: this artist is uncanny by nature throughout, but his music is amazing, these songs are on his second album Selected Ambient Works Volume 2 or SAW II for short. Soft Blur 1 and 2 are a standout, really uncanny and haunting vibes too the point that this song feels paranoid and catatonic and tight, yet it feels spaced out with many noises, this genre is drone, a really monotone yet really unnerving type of music and this is how we get into Hankie or (#4 on the album due to the fact that all songs are untitled so for simplicity I’m using their alternative names instead) a pseudo orchestral and microtonal piece, when the flats high it sounds like something ominous is about to happen. Check out the album it’s an unique ambient experience with a few calm and happy songs on their (check out #3 or Rhubarb as it commonly known and #17 or Z-Twig) The whole of Amnesiac- Radiohead: I know that Radiohead are geniuses but if I say the most unnerving thing other than the two above their follow up album to the phenomenal Kid A, Amnesiac, has a really weird atmosphere almost morbid, even the more uplifting songs feel a tad depressing, the opener ‘Pact Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box’ is uncanny at its highest. If not that, something about Knives Out that kind of scares me to the core, not to think about that the abnormal lyrical theme is about cannibalism but the instrument feels too cutthroat to the point that pin drop something major would happen. Hunting Bears feels way to liminal as well, it’s very open and it doesn’t need words to unnerve the listener. In a nutshell Nine Inch Nails’ sophomore effort ‘The Downward Spiral’ is extremely uncanny. From the industrial sounds to the lyrics and where it’s recorded. Since I Left You by The Avalanches is the most happy uncanny yet it sounds like it came out of a fever, especially all the recognisable samples that it’s made up from (this goes the same with DJ Shadow’s debut Entroducing…). And that’s all I can think up when it comes to unnerving and uncanny songs.

Such a gritty song. I can relate to this song so much, because I grew up in Luton (high crime area near london) and my mother worked 2 jobs, one of those jobs required her to come home at night. We could not afford public service such as bus or taxi. Thankfully, she only got robbed but never hurt like stabbed or anything. She had to walk 5.7 km home in the dark, as an immigrant woman who didn't know the English language. I respect her so much, and it sickens me what could've happened to her...
