Excellent video, Tim. Thanks. As someone who has "been there and done that" many times, you have reminded me of just how good Saltaire is as a day trip destination. You were also lucky with the weather, as it is like autumn this summer in this part of the world.
@schoolshorts4 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes - and there was a great deal more that I didn't have time to see. The weather was good - much better than on the other side of the Pennines - but windy. I did manage to get the drone up for some aerial views of the mill but it was too windy to safely fly other than directly overhead. A long day but most enjoyable.

Thanks again for a very enjoyable video, I have been to Saltaire a few times but with 3 women in the family the day mainly revolved round the retail side of the visit. Might take the unusual step of showing this video to her indoors as I am sure she would enjoy it too.Although I have holidayed in the area also never heard of the Tramway before so if I ever revisit will definately try and arrange a visit. Cheers again

Obviously another fine example of preserved industrial heritage. Thanks a lot for posting .

Its survival is very much down to one man, Jonathan Silver, who bought the mill when it closed in 1986. Without his drive and imagination it would almost certainly have been demolished. It's now a World Heritage Site.

Another excellent video Tim, I have been on that local line around the Bradford area a few times the last couple of month's back when collecting cars! Never been to Satire though but did know of Mr Salt.

Thanks Thomas. Perhaps you might be persuaded to step off the train now and do a little exploring!

Very enjoyable and informative Tim. Saltaire looks a lovely place for a visit and the cable tramway was a bonus for you. I noted the Scottish staff member giving out the very specific do's and don't - these Scots get everywhere 😊. Cheers Euan

Thanks for a most informative video. Funnily, I visited New Lanark by bus last week and have been thinking a fair bit on the topic of philanthropic early industrialists like David Dale and his son-in-law, Robert Owen. I shall put Saltaire on the list of places to visit. Shipley Glen tramway looks a fun ride, too!
@schoolshorts4 ай бұрын
I'm long overdue for a return to New Lanark - 20 years at least since I was last there. It shouldn't be too difficult by train from Dumfries - provided I do it before the Scottish government reinstates peak fares!

Ah! 11:30 - the long forgotten sound of a Thunderer. Once an integral part of station sounds.
@LeslieGilpinRailways4 ай бұрын
That was fun. I'd heard you'd been spotted joining an early train! So you've discovered Shipley Glen. And Saltaire too - I wonder if Titus was related to the Epsom Salts (sorry my sense of humour)
@schoolshorts4 ай бұрын
Ouch! I was certainly spotted by the station-master at Appleby - I hadn't seen anyone I knew at the Citadel. Did I miss someone? I'll try to make it for Sir Nigel on Wednesday - BUT - it's my birthday on Tuesday and I'll be celebrating in style at Barrow. (Might need those Epsom Salts!) Mine host is NOT an early riser so I may have to be very rude and leave before he gets up. After endless Tangmere sessions I really can't miss 60007 - see you then?
@LeslieGilpinRailways4 ай бұрын
@@schoolshorts It was MG who was puzzled as to where you were going - we thought maybe to berate a lost property person at Leeds. Most likely be at Citadel wednesday but if the weather is exceptional I may go to Ribblehead instead.

Yes I did wonder where you were and knew where you were as soon as I saw the thumbnail, I recognised the signal by the bridge and of course the type of train which only run in this area. They are lovely units built in Germany. I am always pleased to see when one of those takes me to Keighley. I have never been in Salts mill but have been on the railway years ago, it is all that remains of a once very popular tourist attraction with fairground rides gardens and tea rooms. there was one ride that was the first of its kind and was supposed to be preserved but the land owner had other ideas and demolished it. You can learn more about the area on AdventureMe channel, a local to the area who has excellent documentaries. Hidden Secrets of Shipley Glen Tramway and a few others around there exploring what remains of where you were this day.
