The Helix Amps sound absolutely fantastic, if you understand how to dial them in for your guitar and other gear. Recently, I discovered something unexpected about that. A month ago, my Mixer died. I decided to use my old Roland hardware DAW "temporarily." I plugged the the Left and Right outputs of my HX Stomp into separate Channel Strips on the DAW. The sound wasn't very good, being a little unclear, distorted, and the reverb seemed to be mostly missing. After much head scratching, checking connections, and cables, etc., I saw that the "Pan" was set to the middle position on each Channel Strip. I thought that made sense, but boy was I wrong! I "hard panned" one Channel Strip Left and the other Right, and instantly the sound blossomed, and sounded super high fidelity like never before, and the reverb was unbelievable. I do all my listening through Headphones, and there are no other listening configuration that I've used that the HX Stomp sounded so good. This is the first time I'm commenting about this, as I wanted to see if the results remained consistent across my Presets, and over time. They have. I hope some of you comment if you've noticed something similar in your own setups. Thanks

I just recently came around to this amp. It's killer in a number of applications. I had the opportunity to play through one of those Amplified Nation Dumble-y amps recently with similar controls as the HX Grammatico and I was happy that the real thing sounded very similar to the HX emulation.

Those are great amps. RJ ronquillo, demo'd most of those on his channel. Very pricey but not as much as grammatico or two rock. Helix and Fractal and etc. Scratch the itch quite well.

This model is honestly my favorite sim for expressive dynamics that need an extra headroom.

They introduced this model right after I got my HX stomp. Love it. It's an extremely tweakable amp. I spent some time finding the tone I wanted on day one and saved it as a favorite and since then I don't touch any settings. You can definitely make it sound awful if you tweak too much. At it's heart, it sounds to me like an old fender tweed amp, but finessed. Like just slightly changing the EQ, compression, and saturation that you get from something like an old 5e3 tweed deluxe so that it sounds just right. It preserves the natural midrange of guitar rather than trying to mask it, just like those tweed amps. But those old amps had a very messy sounding bottom and top end and some rough distortion, but this amp seems to smooth out the rough edges.

Awesome sounding tones. This amp has been my go to ever since it was released. I like to pair the opencast with another fendery cab such as the 4x20, Twin or Deluxe to get a glassiness. Unfortunately I run out of DSP but with a few choice analog pedals I’m good. It’s nice to eliminate option paralysis by sticking to one amp. Thanks for sharing. Your playing is inspiring.

Awesome. I've been using this amp exclusively for more than six months. Still haven't tried the OD switch. Using the same cab all that time also. The Seymour Duncan Everything Axe pickup setup gives me all the tones I need, with this amp. At about 9 minutes in with OD on it sounds a bit like Eric Johnson.

That was really sweet! I think that one is going to put me over the edge to get an HX Stomp - unless any of you chaps have a different idea. I just cannot stand it anymore listening to these beautiful sounds - I have to do something about it :)

Pulled the trigger on the Helix Stomp a month ago. Well worth it. Huge tones. Very flexible. Only problem I have is working this onto the board. It’s so awesome.

John the sound fantastic as always, could you be so kind to tell us the sound chain in from the guitar to the recording device?, it is recorded directly from the Stomp to the computer? or it is recorded live with a cab?. Thanks.

So much better with that drive down a bit. Use a pedal (one that rolls off the bass rather high) for more drive.

I like it. I’m a BF Fender player at heart. I’ve owned a couple of Marshals and enjoyed them immensely. I think I’d explore a Gramattico amp. I’d be interested to know if Gramattico’s amp sales increased with Line6’s model.

I've strunggled to get a decent pushed sound out of this amp. I don't know how you made it sound so smooth when it starts to clip. Will have to compare your sounds to mine to see where I go wrong.

Kick on the blues breaker?????? Are you running one into the HX stomp or are setting an OD preset like a blues breaker?

I‘m fine with the clean sounds and the overdriven lead tones of this model . However, I don‘t quite seem to manage getting a - probably Plexi-type - edge-of-break-up and crunch tone out of it. So, I‘m back to the Brit Plexi Brt model. I wish I could love the GSG 100 more.😢

Why not run a dual amp setup with both? I have a preset with a Dr Z and a Marshall and it gives you best of both worlds with the snapshots to change the gain for clean/crunch/lead.
@harryharris1619
@harryharris1619 Жыл бұрын
What I have noticed about most modelers including the HX Stomp is that the 'gain' stage to do the over drive stuff is just not quite as good as some real tube amps. The tone is just not there and in its place is something more synthetic sounding. This is where modeling needs to improve and probably has a lot of variables to deal with. Some of these may not even be understood. Tone modeling does not really address this as it is only a point in time and not really a dynamic function. Its kind of like taking a photo instead of a video.

Modeling is an excellent tool for musicians - not a replacement for valve amps. Don’t ever underestimate the adage: missing the forest for the trees.

I used to think Dumble was pronounced Doom Blay. Like Dumblé. Like Mrs Bucket or Mrs Bouquet. Just a thought for fake amp names in modellers.

Being able to use a modeler on stage or even at home connected to a passive cab don’t you need at least a power amp pedal to drive the whole thing a preamp wouldn’t be enough to drive a cab or I’m completely wrong? Thinking of purchasing a Helix but I don’t want always to play through an interface a DAW or not in front of of house🤔

It doesn’t have a power amp. I run into the power amp ins of two combos and send signal into the PA. It sounds massive.
